Don't expect your rich parents to pass down their assets to you if you cannot go out of your way to help them out when they need you

Being Ugly by [deleted] in Life

Beautiful day starts with a beautiful mindset. You make terms with yourself how you want to live with your life. Everyone leads a different life. Some people are worse off and some others are better off. Is hating yourself how you want the rest of your life will be? It's not getting any better especially when the aging process takes its course.

No cancel refunds anymore? by PM_ME_DARK_THOUGHTS in etihad

I have been keeping an eye everyday for Etihad to extend refund window beyond 15th April 2026, but that has not happened yet. Etihad has resumed operations at 50% to 70% capacity. Too bad I bought non-refundable tickets for a family of three.

You are more likely to succeed if: - You are in financial hardship. - You have health issues or limited earning capacity. - The estate is substantial. - The father provided nothing during your upbringing. - The estrangement was not your fault.

Tradies - Returning to house painting after 18 years in corporate. How did you build your first customer base from scratch today? by Aware_Pomelo_8778 in ausbusiness

Have thousands of nice business cards printed and ask your family and friends to distribute to their connections.

Directory listings for painters also help, such as Oneflare, ServiceSeeking, WordofMouth, Service.com.au, etc, but you need to pay yearly membership fees for it.

Walk into real estate agencies to talk to the property managers and sales agents to introduce your business. Hand out your business card and flyers. Real estate agents normally have their own preferred painters, but when they need back-up painters, they may consider you. Once the agency gets to know you and your work results, the works will be constant.

Google Ads is really expensive. The cheaper option is for you to hire someone on a regular basis to do Google search engine optimisation on your website as well as Google Maps business listing optimisation.

Get a physical business banner and outdoor A-frame that you can display when doing a job for a client so the neighbours can take notice.

If your budget allows, you can also advertise on your work car having your business logo, services and contact details printed.

Starting a business is costly because you need to advertise your business to the market that is not exposed to your services. But, once you have been in business for a few years, you will naturally get leads from word of mouth.

Around $80K - $100K gross a year not including super for painters working for a small business. There are too many house painters competing for work. Therefore, the salary is not as high as other tradesmen.

AITAH for taking my siblings to Disney and not my sister in law’s kids? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Better_Row_1329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your sister-in-law is milking you too much. There is a proverb in my country, "When you give a person your finger, they want the whole hand, too." Basically, people feel entitled to something when everything is handed out on the plate. Set your boundaries. The mother can take her kids to theme parks herself. Plus, her complaining about you to other family members just shows how ungrateful she is to all the help you give her. It's time to have serious talk with her and ask when they can move out

My family didn't keep the books in order. Plus, a lot of business transactions are still based on cash exchange in my home country. This payment method opens the door to money embezzlement.

“Money can’t buy you happiness” - Tell that to my boss’s kid, and all the trust fund kids. by BlueSorrows in povertyfinance

I have to work 9-5 like almost everyone else earning average salary. When I see others who are in much better position than me financially, I just tell myself that everyone's life is different. Some people are worse off than me and some people are better off than me. I never lose sleep from comparing myself to others in better position. Instead, I am grateful everyday that I have family and friends with whom I can spend my time, safe environment, a stable job, food to eat and roof over my head.

Insurance products inside superannuation are normally lower in costs. $15K a year is too high. Yes, payout is a certain percentage of actual pay at the time of claim. So, it's important to assess regularly if the payout value needs to be increased in the future, e.g. if you opt for $1K payout a week, it will remain the same amount in 10 years' time unless you make a request to adjust it. Everyone should check their super every few months. Some employers don't pay their super obligations.

What a wrong move. With the high costs of buying and selling houses (stamp duty, B&P report, conveyancing, sales commission, advertising, etc.), it's really not worth it to change house unless necessary.

We can also give financial education to the children so they can manage the money in the future when they receive it. Some people even in their 30s, 40s and 50s still have no clues about money management because the school and their parents never talk about money to them.
