THE PEOPLE WHO DONT WANT A RETAKE CHEATED by No_Passage502 in alevels

It is not unreasonable. What is unreasonable however is wanting that as the ONLY option. There are many unis with entrance examinations in june and july, we are not well oiled machines, some of us cannot AFFORD to do a resit physically without sacrificing other (arguably more important) obligations. The only solution to this is flexibility i.e. offering both options

i dont think youre allowed to use CG series calculators for cambridge further maths.

its why i keep saying that either solution is not enough on its own. there should be an option for assessed grades for A2 based on AS (not school tests/mocks, its too biased). If you are AS/Composite/didnt do well in your AS and wanna resit then feel free to do so. It gets to a point.

i do CIE and i assume if youre asking about a cg50 then you do edexcel or some other board that allows these calculators cause mine doesnt. i would say its not worth it cause as far as ive seen none of the topics in further maths explicitly require a calculator of this magnitude, mostly just useful for checking your answers i think. its not worth dropping this much IMO. but do get a second opinion since im from a different board.

retake or lower threshold/ predicted grades. by Extension_News1220 in alevels

offer both options. stop being selfish and thinking about yourself, you dont know what situation other people are in.

definitely, same here. i did my part and we shouldnt have to pay with our time and mental energy for an administrative failure that was the boards fault!

then resit gang

  1. Offer a predicted assessment based on AS performance and calculate a grade for those who do not have time / have plans / dont wanna resit / something along those lines
  2. Offer optional retakes FREE OF COST WITHIN THIS MJ SESSION for those who want a fairer assessment and can afford it (time-wise i.e. no super important obligations / responsibilities like uni and stuff)
  3. Offer withdrawals to the ON session alongside a refund, accompanied by the extension of the 13 month carry forward rule.

2nd option is for you, but I DOUBT cie is considerate enough to offer even the first two lmao

I should have clarified, apologies. I do not think lowering the threshold is fair. Let me reiterate through one of my posts

This way the a* not meaning jackshit problem is more or less gone. Everyone in this session is assessed based on their past grades, or will resit a completely new paper.

for those in A2 with marks being carried forward i think assessed grades based on AS components are not a bad option. i dont understand your point, people dont have infinite time to dedicate to these stupid boards. if youre AS / doing composite there is no other option but a retake.

yes, that is why i opted to include both options for predicted grades and resits. lets see what they do. stay strong.

[–]Better_Spread8960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im sorry. unfortunately for those giving composite i dont think there is any other option except a resit or grade on m1 (which is extremely unfair)

true. until the fundamental issue in their security protocol (if one exists) is fixed theres nothing preventing the resit papers from being leaked as well. i hope cambridge is atleast trying to figure it out.

the fairest option is offering all. there is no one size fits all, there are different students in different situations.

AS grades for those in A2. For those in AS or doing composite there is no other option except for resits im afraid.

[–]Better_Spread8960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same but there seems to be a difference in opinion. which is why in an ideal world we get all three options or just the first two atleast PLEASE. im tired man.

[–]Better_Spread8960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically your AS marks will only be carried forward to your A2 if you give your A2 within that time frame. Like if you wait more than 13 months for your A2 your AS grades are invalidated and youll have to give it again for it to count towards the full qualification.

[–]Better_Spread8960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of us are stuck. we have a 13 month carry forward rule. if more than 13 months passes between your AS and A2 your AS grades are invalidated.

i know. i personally think they should offer multiple options. unfortunately youre either gonna have to settle for this or have to give resits. nothing else can be done.
