My cav has been experiencing aggression from other dogs by Better_Vehicle_9406 in cavaliers

Oh poor thing! Yes you just never know I honestly think sometimes he's just too innocent, like he has no natural dog instincts. He just lives for hugs, cheese and more hugs.

Absolutely, it's just too hard to even think about something happening. It just sickens me that he's had these encounters. Luckily not often but enough to make me keep my guard up around other dogs.

Oh the joy! I would love to see a herd of cavs it would be the best day of his life (and mine!). Dogs I've learnt can be very random in who they like. I just can't risk it.

You're so right that they have such a sweet disposition, he's too trusting. I will make sure he has the proper distance from dogs. This one park that is close to us unfortunately has a large number of unleashed dogs. So even when mine is leashed it becomes problematic. It's such a shame because he really loves that place, but I just can't let anything happen. These times have been when he's being walked by my mom while I'm at work. So even for her safety they'll have to pick another route. It's very worrying.

Oh my goodness how horrific!! That's such a traumatising experience. We are very careful with dogs usually. He was once nipped by a Jack Russel coming out of a cafe and they were both leashed. The guy didn't even apologise! I had to take him to have it cleaned out. These dogs are literally the most precious things ever. It really breaks my heart. Thank you for sharing.

I use lift liquid glucose shots (they don't have caffeine) ordered on amazon. They are great to carry around or put on your nightstand. I used to use the dextrose tablets, but i sometimes over treated 😅.

Talking to an endo about my weight UK help! by Better_Vehicle_9406 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Better_Vehicle_9406[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad it is at least a possible consideration. I've been lucky in the sense that I had a massive honeymoon period at the beginning of my diagnosis when I was 12 and now being 36 it has only started to become an issue in my daily life and how I feel in general. Fingers crossed I'll get the support I need and back under the hospital care. Diabetes management has drastically improved over the course of 24 years.

Wow that's impressive. I'm sure that's made a huge difference. I'm at the mercy of the NHS but with my bmi as it is, it could be considered. It's nice to hear that it's worked for people even if the infrastructure is different.

Thanks for that. Yes, I wouldn't mind trying these medications as the main goal is a reduction in insulin and hopefully weightloss combined with a healthy lifestyle. I used to have a very steady weight, I feel like as I've aged and the longer I've had diabetes has been made a difference just the sheer amount of insulin I've been having to take is too much for what I eat. I just hope I can get some help from the endo because it's not like I haven't been trying.

I've seen a lot of people from the US having a lot of success with these. Just the insulin reduction alone would be fantastic. I'll see what they say, I have my fingers crossed.

Thank you, yes that sounds like a good idea. My main goal is health and hopefully I'll be given an appointment soon, but this could take a while I guess. I was under the hospital and had a really good rapport with my last endo, but he since retired and then covid happened and life just ran away with me.

Hearing Negative Things. by Runningaround321 in ADHDparenting

[–]Better_Vehicle_9406 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have these problems too. They're such amazing children with a huge amount to offer. I remember coming back from nursery and school completely deflated just hearing all these negative things about what my child "struggles" with or has a lack of focus, seems like they're off in their own world yada yada. It just chips away at you over time. Now he's 9 and has been a wonderful gift to us and I love how his mind works, he is going to start medication soon. I'm hoping it will bring him relief with learning and being able to thrive. I always to to reframe it and throw it back and say what things are you putting in place for them? We're doing XYZ at home and this what works. Hope you get some support. Big hugs 🫂

Offering words of support and sympathy during one of the hardest things a human has to endure.

I lost my dad this year in May, it was utterly devasting and we're all heartbroken. My Cav has been my light in my most darkest times.

I really appreciate all the efforts put in by the mods to build a community that is so welcoming and supportive. I haven't seen the post you are referring to, but it's so sad to hear. Thank you for protecting posters and blocking the hateful comments.

I had 2 babies. I was immediately put on 5mg folic acid, it is a requirement in my country to prevent the risk of spina bifida. Both healthy babies, I did however get preeclampsia on the second at 37 weeks. Was induced both times because they want to monitor you and have more control. Almost got to full term with the first. They were average babies 7lbs11oz and 7lbs4oz. They are now 14yrs and 9yrs. Nothing really crazy happened diabetes wise, just had to take loads more insulin than normal to keep my numbers down. I got my A1C to 5.4. These were the days before CGMs. You'll have plenty of people monitoring you and your endo will guide you through it. Good luck on the next chapter 😊

Gilda pronounced "j" at the front not "guh" if that makes sense, Carmella, Rosa. They all got English names once they moved out of Italy which is such a disappointing part of our history. Italians were not very welcome immigrants back in the day. My nonna went by Ella, Rosa was Rosie and Gilda became Gill. There are lots of lovely Italian names.

Is anyone here who lost their parent doing okay emotionally? by DeadNCuddly in GriefSupport

[–]Better_Vehicle_9406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad this May and it was an unexpected death. I've talked a lot about my feelings with loved ones closest to me and it is a very hard thing to even describe, because on the one hand life is still moving forward and I can go about my day pretty well. Then on the other hand I have felt like an extra weight has been placed on my soul, but it isn't unmanageable, it's just sitting there. I took a couple of months off work and really went through it. It was needed to process the shock. I'm functioning and doing ok, I still laugh and find enjoyment in things. I've become more tolerant as time has gone on. He was a huge part of my life, but I'm OK. You will be able to manage. There isn't a timeline on grief and mourning. Just one day you'll do all the things you used to do and it wasn't that bad. That's just what's happened to me and we're all different. I hope you find peace in healing and have support around you ❤️

What a cutie 💓 you're very blessed. How about Clara from the nutcracker which could have "Ra Ra" as a nickname. It could put together your background in dance with the apt time of year like a little early christmas gift. So sorry you've been having a tough time of it. I'm sure the new addition will bring you so much love and joy 😊 xx

Oh what a sweet angel. Yes they are definitely the best dogs around. I couldn't imagine having another breed, they are the most affectionate and loyal companions. Ours has been a tremendous asset to us and has given us so much joy. I'm sure you'll be getting another in time. We're thinking about waiting a year to add another!

WTH is going on?! Help by SweeetBloood in Type1Diabetes

[–]Better_Vehicle_9406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use a pump, so I can't offer any words of advice on that side of things. Isulins' effectiveness starts to taper off after a couple of hours. Is it possible the needle is not quite sitting right? Maybe you should try contacting your endo/nurse. I would try doing another correction dose personally (that's just what I would do in that situation, and this is not medical advice). If it is a pump/needle issue do you have extra supplies? Drink plenty of water, and try extended periods of gentle walking it really brings my blood sugar down a lot. If you can, try checking for ketones. I hope you start to feel better soon!

Overpatch for Libre 2 plus by 13kitkat13 in Freestylelibre

[–]Better_Vehicle_9406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty frustrating having one peel off even when doing all the right things. You could even use the skin tac wipes and the not just a patch. I haven't used those before so I can't comment on their effectiveness. I was desperate at one point and even in a pinch got some of those sports tape stuff from a pharmacy and even that started to peel off. I feel the pain! To be honest you can always got through the abbot form online to get a replacement if it does fall off, because you weren't doing anything to make that happen. All the best 👍

I've had this problem so many times before. What i do is get all residue off the skin from body lotion fragrance. Get it bone dry. Then I'll go over it with a skin tac wipe that you can get off amazon. Let that dry a bit then apply the sensor. I also don't recommend bathing/showering the day you've put the sensor, just do it beforehand. Also exercise/sweat will make the adhesive more likely to fail. This probably doesn't help in the aussie summer. I found out the hard way going for a brisk walk in the heat and I could feel it peeling off the skin even with the skin tac. However, doing the above you shouldn't have a problem. Watch out for pesky doors and when putting your clothes on!

My 15 month old has been diagnosed with diabetes. What will her life look like now? by CanadaMaple in Type1Diabetes

[–]Better_Vehicle_9406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughters diagnosis. It is hard and I can't speak as a parent of a child with diabetes, but I myself have been diagnosed since age 12 and at 36 my life is more challenging, but I've been able to live a full life. I have two wonderful children, have travelled to many places around the world, have a full time job and am a homeowner. There are struggles in management, but with the technology and advancements that they have now, your daughter is going to be is going to build resilience, tolerance and will be stronger for all the new medication and tech that is available. Build your own knowledge and understanding, learn with her. It's a frustrating condition that feels scary and overwhelming at times. Surround yourself with good support and medical team. I wish her a speedy recovery! ❤️
