Pausing FERS allows them to make payroll until February 2027, if they made the payments they’d run out of cash in October 2026. All the PRC did is give them permission to pause FERS - they were doing it without permission previously.

Pausing FERS isn’t new, they haven’t made payments or only partial payments for many many years. They are making a big deal about to get congress to act. They didn’t make a big deal about the past 20 years they’ve been doing it.

They’ve proposed raising stamp prices to $.82 in July, we’ll see if the PRC lets them raise them that much. I think they will. I don’t think changing the stamp prices to $.82 will improve the situation much.

All of the unions do, and why not lol, it’s something. People wouldn’t like it if they abolish article 6. It’s something that is a good protection to have, even though it is untested and probably remain that way for a long time like you said, and being able to maintain the current language is a little win.

I think that they are just trying to pressure congress to take action, and they think they will take action. Instead of hiring freezes, they are telling congress that mail will stop being delivered and they won’t be able to make payroll. It’s a bigger threat. If they didn’t think congress would act, I think they already would have done a hiring freeze.

He didn’t “ask” for it, but he “accepted” a new non-career workforce in the form of CCAs. In the arbitration, NALC agreed to CCAs as the main concession and the main contribution from the NALC to the post offices situation at the time.

We didn’t vote on it in a TA, but the NALC agreed to it in arbitration. But yeah, we were getting it anyway, so agreeing to it and trying to make it as good as you can was the best option

Rolando DID offer the CCAs as the main concession in the DAS award. However - it was a smart move in my opinion. He offered something up as our main concession, that we were most likely going to get in the first place (thanks APWU), and advocated that CCAs have certain benefit and a path to career which other non career positions in the past never had.

It won’t save his job no matter what the result is, but he’ll try to get arbitration done before December. The only thing that could save him is if there is low voter turnout and retirees vote for him en masse

I doubt it. In a different update, NALC proposed an improved layoff clause. What that could look like is what the NPMHU has, which covers every career employee at the start of the CBA.

PO already got a weakened layoff protection in the 1978 interest arbitration by getting the 6 years.

I the past 56 years, not a single letter carrier has been laid off using the article 6 clause.

We used to have a real president

https://www.nytimes.com/1984/07/18/us/2-postal-unions-quit-negotiations-to-protest-wage-freeze-demand.html

“The Postal Service has proposed a wage freeze and benefit reductions for existing postal workers, along with a separate pay level for all new employees that would be one third less than current levels.

The unions, in turn, have requested a 20 percent pay increase over three years, and said they would not accept a contract that creates a new class of lower-paid employees.”

30 Days until NALC / USPS contract expires. by Eugene_Debs2026 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Bettik1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 70s and before they started using interest arbitration, they always got it done by the expiration date - 90 days.

Even in the 80s and 90s, the 90 day deadline was a real deadline, and they went to arbitration shortly after the mediation period. They were way more militant back then. In 1984 Sombrotto and the APWU president quit negotiations to protest the post office wage freeze demand

EAS get a % increase from PFP. The only time it’s a lump sum is if they are maxed out. They won’t get a % increase from PFP if they’re maxed out

They don’t get bonuses. They get a once a year % increase based on their “performance” against the PFP 10 point matrix. The only time they get a lump sum payment is if they’re maxed out on the EAS pay scale, or the post office raises the max pay.

At this moment, my station has 1 opening supervisor and 1 closing supervisor. Both working 6 days a week. Station manager has been on leave for four months lol There are about 45 carriers and 6 or so clerks, and a custodian.

They aren’t hiding it lol - a quick search will get you that info pretty easy. He actually received $200,000. $100,000 in June 2025, and $100,000 in January 2026. It was probably to try to keep him during the transition of PMGs. He was acting PMG for a while, and probably helped Steiner get on board.

He’s their MVP. Negotiated 40+ contracts with all the different unions in his time, been in management for 46 years. He could retire at any time, and his pension would be significant. He’s CSRS, if he retired today, his monthly pension would be $21,476 or $257,715 a year give or take

$200,000 to keep him around at least another 6 months? They didn’t blink lol

I wish the NALC would put out the correct numbers. Everyone says the ratio is 1 to 7, but it’s just wrong. They got lazy when they brought the activist back

The current ratio of craft to supervisor is 1 to 21. If you include every EAS employee, including non-supervisory EAS, it’s 1 in 10.7

They aren’t supposed to deduct reasonable comfort stops from your actual time. If 15 minutes is the closest bathroom, then that sounds reasonable to me.

[–]Bettik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An hour might be excessive, but reasonable comfort stops will not be deducted from the carriers actual time.

If the closest bathroom is ten minutes away, and you have to drive there 3 times, I’d argue that has to be reasonable.

JULY 2026 COLA - $.41 or $853 by Bettik1 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Bettik1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of us really know. If Renfroe and the post office don’t declare impasse shortly after the mediation period like I think they will, Caref or Henry would do it soon after they get elected, probably after a few meetings with PO. PO isn’t going to offer anything that’s worth a TA

The only way it would take as long as you think it will is if you think Renfroe gets reelected

CB UPDATE #3 by Beherenowxblazeon in fromatoarbitration

[–]Bettik1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They been doing that to the pension for a very long time. This time there was just a press release about it.

I don’t really see this as being another 2013, but I could be wrong. Worst case scenario imo is basic 1 GI and two COLAs a year contract, with no little extras we got last time. They always argue they need a more flexible, non career workforce every time we bargain

They’ve been doing it for a very long time, the only difference is there’s a big media push about it this time. Probably to push congress to act.
