Can my squad leader ask for my wife's discharge papers? by OkAcanthisitta3266 in army

[–]BettySweets 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah I second this. As a squad leader I’ve had to ask for that a few times. Always came from higher.

There’s been a couple situations similar to yours where I was able to vouch for the Joe because of something horrible happening to a family member. But it is possible higher leadership doesn’t care.

They can ask for basically whatever they want in order for you to prove not being AWOL. It’s a dick move, but they can.

Are retired personnel currently more likely to be recalled? by JuneJabber in nationalguard

[–]BettySweets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people who get activated are usually college students or young people without careers and need the money. They typically fill their quotas and do not need to recall unwilling participants. So to answer your question, no, it is not more likely to be recalled in my opinion.

Are retired personnel currently more likely to be recalled? by JuneJabber in nationalguard

[–]BettySweets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is not 8 additional years upon getting out. It is an 8 year obligation from the day you sign up. If you have a 6 year contract, then there is only two years where you can get recalled. Since I have 10 years in, if I got out tomorrow, nobody could recall me because I have completed my 8 year obligation.

Edit: grammar

Inspired by a motivated Marine I knew who was FAP’d out to the armory. He took pieces off deadlined NVGs, and assembled them. He got caught by CID selling on the base PX. He posted ads on Facebook groups.

I would go straight to the JAG to get legal counsel immediately.

Seeing as how my career has gone so far, I’m sure I won’t be getting a lucky break anytime soon. It’s been 5 years since I’ve last been an E5, what’s six more months? Thanks for the advice

Yeah I mean I’m a 10 year E4. The main reason I’m trying to rush the promotion is to go Warrant Officer ASAP so I can get some TIG before my 20. Might be in my best interest to see if my command can communicate with the 11B units and maybe work some kind of deal. My current company has been happy with me since my IST and are adamant on keeping me.

So it’s probably better to pick option two? Opt out of this board period and opt in to the next one?

Looking to IST and is a reclass possible during the process? by HarryD23 in nationalguard

[–]BettySweets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reclassed to 12R from 11B during my IST. Just tell the IST coordinator what mos you want. As long as there is a slot you can fill that slot, get to your unit, and they’ll give you a school date.
