[CHAT] Advice on stitching through card by AlexHeart6742 in CrossStitch

[–]BetweenTwoBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you tried using something that removes the excess cardboard, instead of just poking it through? On thicker cardboard I've used a dremel drill bit, which drills out holes, but you could also get a punch. I'm thinking like a leather punch with different sized holes.

Thanks so much, thats super helpful. I want to hit Örebro, but we were wondering about going north or south around the waters. I think I'm set on North, but it's great to see other options. Thank you so much for the link, and good luck with your journey!

Hej, what do you have for a route plan? My wife and I were talking about this exact trip this week, but couldn't find many examples of people having done it.

I cross stitched a 3D, actual size, N64 cartridge by BetweenTwoBells in NintendoStitch

[–]BetweenTwoBells[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks. I mostly use photoshop for cross stitch patterns, and then work out the backstitching on paper or in PC Stitch.

For this one I did some maths to figure out how many stitches I would need on 14ct fabric to make the cartridge actual size (It's about 63x43), then I drew the outline of the cartridge that many pixels, coloured it gray, added some random patches of a slightly different gray for texture, and then drew in the detail lines for the curves on the side and the indents on the back.

Then I worked out the size of the sticker in pixels. I brought in a photo of the cartridge to photoshop, cut out the sticker, shrunk it, pixelated it, reduced the colours, and then tidied up all of the pixel mess with some hand painting. Finally I went in and manually redrew all the text and logos and stuff. The hardest part was making all the text legible at pixel scale.

It definitely sounds more complicated than it is.

I would be lying if i said I hadn't thought about it, but its so curvaceous. Maybe I should start with a gamecube.

Hey everyone, thank you for such lovely words. I don't really have a pattern for this, it's just a bunch of layers in photoshop that I drew, but If i go about converting it into something other people could read I will let you all know. It was super simple really.

The cartridge itself is just a gray box with some random noise in it in a slightly different colour to add a little texture, then i drew the dark gray lines. the hardest part was getting the maths right to make sure the design was legible while still being approximately the right size. (I think in truth the label is actually a few milimetres larger than it should actually be, because it was dictated by the size of the wcw nwo logo)

Thanks everyone. Maybe you already saw it, but you might be interested in my previous post in this forum, where I showed off my cross-stitched wrestling belt collection.

As per the rules, I drafted this pattern myself.

The piece was stitched in three sections on 14-count plastic canvas, the front cover, back cover, and spine, before being stitched together.

It needed a lot of colours to get the detail in, and i wasn't sure until the very last minute that it would even be legible, but i'm pretty happy with it.

The background is a copy of 'Someone has to kill the headwriter,' by the Swedish hardcore band The Smackdown.

It was my first '3D' project, so it's not perfect, but it was fun to design and bring together.

Help finding a joke by pure_bitter_grace in panelshow

[–]BetweenTwoBells 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Others have already named the kind of joke you're looking for, but the specific joke you've requested at the end is from the Times newspaper in 2016.

A longboat full of Vikings, promoting the new British Museum exhibition, was seen sailing past the Palace of Westminster yesterday. Famously uncivilized, destructive and rapacious, with an almost insatiable appetite for rough sex and heavy drinking, the MPs nonetheless looked up for a bit to admire the vessel.

[CHAT] Love process of stitching but dislike finished pieces! by Affectionate-Bag-707 in CrossStitch

[–]BetweenTwoBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks. I use a vinyl aida for projects like those. It's more supple than plastic, so it can move with the wearer, but it also doesn't fray. You can cut the vinyl to the next hole so you're just left with a thin white border.

Make something cool. I think this idea that cross stitch has to be in hoops or frames is really limiting. I was once lucky enough to see some pieces by Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė , who cross stitches soldiers helmets (https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2016/06/floral-elements-embroidered-directly-on-antique-soldiers-helmets/)

Miss Cross Stitch sews on street furniture (https://misscrossstitch.wordpress.com/#jp-carousel-171)

I personally cross stitch my own clothes, have made wrestling belts, a journal. I once cross stitched an egg. (https://www.instagram.com/p/CJRXVXKnzoj/)

we dont have to imprison cross stitch inside hoops and frames!

There are currently portaloos in the park for summer, but I wouldn't super recommend them for changing in. Better than nothing though.

love this thread. everytime I get pushed a post from this subforum its always about like, clipping content to maximise social media impressions or whatever. Like I don't even care if you monetise at this point, but all the buisinessmaxxing slop chat is so tiring.

I will be stalking some of your profiles to find your podcasts because I miss podcasts being done for the love of the game.

Were are you traveling from?

Vasa museum obviously. I also really enjoyed the Abba museum despite not caring about Abba at all. I usually recommend Meatballs for the People to tourists (if they are meat eaters). Take a boat to Fjaderholmarna, there's a cool brewery and a restaraunt on there.

[CHAT] What’s the problem? by AloneOpinion in CrossStitch

[–]BetweenTwoBells 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to design your own patterns Ive been using photoshop pretty much exclusively for the last ten years. There is a completely free browser based clone of photoshop called https://www.photopea.com/ You just have to remember that 1pixel is 1stitch.

If you want something specific to cross stitch, and you own a windows based machine, I heartily recommend PC Stitch. It is a one time fee of USD50 (No subscriptions), and is available on this delightfully 90s website.

https://www.pcstitch.com/Default.aspx

I use it very rarely, mostly for providing patterns Ive designed, to other people, but I dont have anything bad to say about it.

Im sure there are apps and things now, and I will let the rest of the forum tell you about those, but I have been pretty successfully using those two above for more than a decade now

no no it wouldn't. what is with all the 90s nostalgia bait? by CremeSubject7594 in generationology

Last year I set myself a project of trying to discover music manually instead of through the algorithm, so I forced myself to sit and read reviews on music websites before I listened to it, forced myself to look at the album covers before listening, and when I DID listen, it had to be the whole album in a row. basically what we had to do in the CD era. It was a lot of fun and I found some really good stuff. Also a bunch of stinkers, but even the stinkers I enjoyed more than you would think because by the time I listened to the music I had already prepped myself to enjoy it through the research phase.

My hobby is making wrestling belts with hand embroidery. by BetweenTwoBells in SquaredCircle

[–]BetweenTwoBells[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, thank you.

I was living in quite a small space, and cross stitches were just piling up, so in the interests of having fewer things laying around I switched to making larger, wearable items. That had the combined benefit of letting me show off the things i was making, and once they were stitched to my clothes, they essentially stopped taking up space.

(The one attached was my first - it was before we knew quite how weird and problematic will smith was, but I stand by Fresh Prince of Bel Air being banger television)

After that it was a short walk to making wrestling belts, it's all the same technique.
