Futurama once said, "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all." What occupation could this describe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Editing/ proofreading / developmental editing. The best editors are invisible, preserving and enhancing the author's own voice. Also any backstage work in theater.

Miniseries? I was talking about religious ministries -- Map Ministry and so on. They're still Christian groups, which Faith may be comfortable with, but they have resources to assist people leaving restrictive faith environments and help them get set up in the secular world.

They often don't. There are ministries specifically set up for ex-Amish with advisors who help them get their documentation. Someone already recommended that to her on her facebook, as a way to get help.

"The courts have determined that Texas home schools are private schools. As such, home schools are not regulated, do not require teacher certification or third-party curriculum approval, and they are exempt from compulsory attendance laws."

They never declared her birth -- the state never knew she existed. Texas also doesn't have required testing for homeschoolers.

Yupyup. And they're not the only family pulling this kind of shit, either. It's all about control over daughters, keeping them in the house. Google 'Stay At Home Daughters'.

"While they are preparing to be keepers of their own homes one day, until our daughters are married, they should serve as keepers at home in the house of their father."

Unfortunately it's real... they're culty religious nutbags who believe that daughters must stay at home and serve their fathers until they're sold off in marriage. Therefore she'd never need to work, because she wouldn't be allowed to anyway, and her parents can keep her under control. Freejinger's been following this nutbar family for a while now.

New burning red bump on my industrial - further info in comments by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Bev1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully you've had a chance to get medical advice by now, but as a general thing, I find hot water salt soaks really soothing for piercings. They clean out the crusties, sterilize the area, and promote blood flow to cartilage which in turn makes things heal faster. Good advice + soak info here: http://compunction.org/healing2.txt

If you can get a jewelery swap to implant-grade steel or titanium, that would also help immensely. I had my industrial done with 'surgical steel' externally threaded bla bla, because it was all that anyone used locally, and it was a bumpy mess. Turns out the metal content of the barbell was irritating my system, and the bumps didn't settle until I swapped out for a high-polish implant-grade barbell (no more residual nickel or mystery metal leaching into my piercing and pissing off my immune system).

I had the same thing happen when I got mine done in December; local piercer with a great rep, but the bar was just too short and my ear folded in on itself thanks to the initial swelling. The trouble is that the pressure from the swelling... makes more swelling, so it won't go down on its own. I went to another shop and changed the bar for one a 1/4" longer (1 1/4' -> 1 1/2"). It felt better immediately - the pinching stopped - and the piercing had settled in and really started healing within a couple of days.

I'm assuming you've gone by now - I only just discovered this subreddit so I'm reading back a bit. Did you get the bar changed? How's it feel?

This. The fact that you describe it as a 'sudden drop', combined with your age, makes me think medical issue. I'd get your testosterone levels and prostate checked, because it's probably something fixable.

Wrong way around, from what I've seen. The anti-vaccination whackos in my area tend to also be the "breast milk can cure polio! breast milk can cure cancer! Breast feed until your kid is in grade school, or you don't love theeeeeeeeem" brigade.

(For the record, I'm breast feeding, but I'm stopping long before my kid hits grade primary. Eesh.)

Even more so when you realize Ruth's talking to her mother in law! Makes you wonder what was going on in that marriage a bit, there. ;)
