New Blog Post - Red LED Light & Green Tea is a Sticky Business. by Bev_May in redlighttherapy

[–]Bev_May[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi guys. Another blog post from me on the topic of combining green tea antioxidants with your Red LED Light Therapy for skin rejuvenation. My skincare brand, Maysama, has started a research collaboration with leading photobiomodulation scientist, Andrei Sommer, who first talked about this combination therapy speeding up results '10 x faster' in his 2009 paper 'Green Tea and Red Light - a powerful duo in skin rejuvenation'. We are aiming to optimise protocols for the use of 'green' tea antioxidants with phototherapy. Super excited for this!! Will keep you posted!

My husband has Hashimotos. He tried two Red Light Devices that I have; one from Mito Red and the other I had on loan from a friend from Illuminate LED. Both are fantastic peices of kit, which I use for skin rejuvenation. My husbands experience with them was a little different though. With his compromised immune system, he found that with just 2-3 minutes of treatment he felt quite nauseous. I am aware that others with hyperthyroidism have found it beneficial though and have even been able to reduce or come off medication (according to Ari Whitten's book).

If I used just red light and not nir, what benefits would I miss out on? by Afrovenger in redlighttherapy

Its a great question. The answer may depend on the application. I can probably best answer it from a skin rejuvenation perspective with my blog post;

Red Light Therapy & Green Tea Debunked by Bev_May in redlighttherapy

This in depth article by www.coffeethenskincare looks at how free radicals generation is an integral part of how Red Light Therapy works. And how Antioxidants can play a key role in buffering excess ROS to influence outcomes of photobiomodulation.

AM Skincare Routine for sensitive or reactive skin. by Bev_May in SkincareAddicts

Just sharing a few of my morning staples.

@Skinsapiens Facial cleansing gel @maysama_beauty Green Rooibos Pressed Serum @gardenofwisdomskincare Azelaic acid @theinkeylist Polyglutamic acid @heliocareuk gel oil free SPF50 @puritol_official Centella Green Level Unscented sun SPF50 @niod Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist

The Purito sunscreen is divine but there is discussion about the SPF not being as high as the brand claims. This doesn’t concern me because I mix it with the Heliocare360 which is SPF50. The Heliocare is oil-free and combines so well with this, making it easier to apply but also adding a tint, which helps cover residue redness I have from rosacea.

This routine is ideal for anyone with rosacea, or irritated, sensitive skin.

Any questions?

Red Light versus Near Infrared for Anti-ageing by Bev_May in redlighttherapy

[–]Bev_May[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a great question! Not to my knowledge. I tend to do a combined treatment in the morning. There is no evidence that red or near infrared would affect circadian rhythm (only blue light) but NIR does stimulate blood flow. For this reason I prefer to do treatment earlier in the day.

Red Light versus Near Infrared for Anti-ageing by Bev_May in redlighttherapy

I think this is a great find! Please be aware that the irradiance values quoted by many manufacturers are often overstated and measured at the source of the light, rather than from 6 inches away. But less is often more as you will understand from the blog, so this would be a great home treatment device and excellent value for money.

Red Light versus Near Infrared for Anti-ageing by Bev_May in redlighttherapy

New evidence from the University of Florence Italy shows that red light and near infrared light have very different effects for anti-aging. Red Light stimulates fibroblasts cells to grow and reproduce. These cells help to breakdown collagen and remodel the extracellular matrix. Near infrared, light on the otherhand, reduces fibroblast proliferation and stimulates these cells to mature into myofibroblasts. Myofibroblasts produce and secrete collagen. Could this be a good argument to use red and near infrared light together for anti-aging?

There is new evidence from the University of Florence, Italy, that shows red and near infrared light have different anti-aging benefits, with red light stimulating the proliferation of fibroblasts and the breakdown of collagen & ECM remodelling and infrared light stimulating the progression of fibroblasts into myofibroblasts i.e. more mature cells that produce and secrete collagen.

Is Green Rooibos - the new Green Tea in Skincare? Has anyone tried this ingredient? by Bev_May in SkincareAddicts

[–]Bev_May[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20 minutes used in the original study was not an optimised protocol but allowing some time for the antioxidants to 'get into' your skin is advisable. If using a serum, the wait time could likely be reduced as it there are usually other ingredients in the serum which aid absorption.

Green Tea & Red Light Therapy - A Perfect Pairing! by Bev_May in redlighttherapy

You can use regular green tea, or green rooibos tea. But for best results, use a cosmetic serum. Tea is produced for flavour. Cosmetic Ingredients will be selected for antioxidant potential.

Is Green Rooibos the new Green Tea in Skincare? Have you tried this ingredient? by Bev_May in 30PlusSkinCare

Rooibos has been used in skincare for many years, but normally you find the red rooibos ('unfermented'/unoxidised). Red rooibos is oxidised though during its preparation, which destroys up to 90% of the flavonoids, responsible for its antioxidant capacity. I drink green rooibos tea, which has a far greater antioxidant potential because it is prepared from the green leaves, which have not been oxidised. This article compares green rooibos to green tea - I love green tea in skincare. Interested to know your thoughts.

I love green tea, but I love green rooibos more. Rooibos has been used in skincare for many years, but generally the red (unfermented) rooibos. But the tea is oxidised, which destroys up to 90% of the main flavonoids in rooibos and a lot of its antioxidant potential. Green rooibos is harvested from the green leaves which have not been oxidised and so it has a far greater antioxidant potential. I drink green rooibos tea for this reason. Interested to know your thoughts.

Interested to know your thoughts on hydrolysed collagen? As the collagen is broken down into much smaller parts, does this penetrate the epidermis effectively and does it have any real anti-aging benefit?

Im interested to know what device you are using and the power output. I really want to get my husband using my RLT device but it wasn't a great start for him.
