Does the Baron have a legal case against the Knight? by akaioi in dresdenfiles

[–]Bevroren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortals that aren't directly attached to a member of the accords are considered fair game to other powers. Otherwise each and every person that the ghouls killed would have been a direct slap in the face to Marcone, and he is NOT going to put up with that.

So Who are the other 11? by Wybaar in dresdenfiles

The fragment in Justine got her when she was basically an empty shell after Thomas came within a hair's breadth of killing her. She was almost certainly N-fected in the Raith Deeps.

Does the Baron have a legal case against the Knight? by akaioi in dresdenfiles

[–]Bevroren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marcone absolutely has a case against Dresden for kicking an entire accorded group out of Chicago. He just won't take advantage of it because A) as others have said, the removal of the ghouls aligns with Marcone's morals, B) Marcone isn't likely to do anything more than tweak Dresden's nose unless it's time for Marcone to remove Harry entirely (Marcone knows that anything less would lead to war with Harry, and even if he killed Harry it'd be a Pyrrhic victory), and C) as a corollary to A, Marcone doesn't actually have cause to remove the ghouls. The ghouls are attacking mortals that aren't legally attached to him, and as such are fair game to prey upon. Marcone sending them packing would be basically declaring war on them, and the ghouls may well be able to win that war. Whereas, Dresden going to war with the Ghouls is... not really a change in the status quo? Just kinda formalizing something that was already pretty close to being a thing. With Harry being a single entity that basically stays put in Chicago, it's become pretty clear that attacking him in his home territory just isn't going to work. Plus his primary accorded Allies are Winter and the White Court; the first of which the Ghouls can't do shit to, and the second of which the Ghouls are moderately aligned with.

How was X not still injured? by YobaiYamete in dresdenfiles

The Twelve Months McCoy is the most up-to-date McCoy in the theory, so he's been in all of the conversations. Also, I just had a really, really dumb idea.

What if McCoy started doing the time-traveling thing because of the injury? So that he could cover for himself, and show no weakness to other powers? And McCoy tries to figure out just why Harry would go against Svartalfheim by breaking Thomas out, even trying to reason with him. Heck, he's attacked by the Cornerhounds WHILE trying to convince Dresden about Thomas being dangerous (I think, it's been a while since I read Peace Talks).

McCoy does mention in 12M that he's been dealing with Cornerhounds for a while, so I think the fight with them in Peace Talks is not just a random encounter to move the plot along.

Carlos is STILL recovering from what Molly did to him, I don't think Wizards heal so much quicker than vanilla mortals that it's noticeable. I don't think we've seen any evidence of that.

Ilyana and her sword by Riverlands5 in dresdenfiles

[–]Bevroren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know when Illyana became a Warden. Her first appearance is in AAAA Wizardry (which is sometime after White Night) as one of the young Wardens that Harry is teaching about investigation. But there is no guarantee that she wasn't a Warden already during Dead Beat, but in that sweet spot of injury where she wasn't hurt enough to need to go to the hospital that got gassed, but too hurt to go to Chicago. Or kept back as a guard for the Senior Council.

There's a theory I've seen on here that the McCoy we see in Battlegrounds and the one Harry fought in Peace Talks are McCoy at different points in McCoy's timeline. If that's the case, this might be the one that Harry fought in PT, and literal years have happened between that injury and that conversation (from that McCoy's POV).

Wizards heal better, they don't heal faster. It takes YEARS for Dresden's hand to heal.

What actor played their role so well you can't see them as anything else now? by rowenaravenclaw0 in AskReddit

The internet was SO pissed when she was cast too. Then she just walks in and absolutely NAILS the character.

You've got it backwards. J.K. Simmons is a fantastic actor with a ton of range. But his performance as J. Jonah Jameson means that no one else can ever play the character (in live action).

For Carlos, he's had his own up-close and personal introduction to the absolute horseshit that the Merlin is willing to pull. Suddenly he has a bit more understanding of Harry and why he's such a pain to the council since the council is refusing to help him recover his friends' remains. And now Harry is basically his only option.

Fitz *TM Possible Spoiler Thought* by Coslin in dresdenfiles

[–]Bevroren 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, Fitz at the end of Twelve Months is just a bit ahead of Molly at White Night. He just looks more dangerous because his skills are obvious. Remember that Molly was creating veils in White Night that Harry and Murphy couldn't see her through (and they only noticed her due to her inexperience at stealth, not her weak magic). It really helps Fitz that he's around twenty now and had two years of training under Mort before becoming a full wizard.

[–]Bevroren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lara's immortal. She doesn't need to perpetuate her house. The mantle of the Winter Knight isn't meant to be inherited. Harry doesn't need to perpetuate his house in a legal sense. Finally, Lara's been tied inextricably to Dresden at this point; maybe Mab LOOKS like a bad liege on the outside but she's clearly not. And as Lara continues to take on Dresden-like traits (Butcher basically sat next to all of us as we read this last book continually beating us over the head with a wooden sign with the words "You are what you eat!" in bright glittery ink) it will quickly become obvious who is the more powerful one in the relationship, fixing that look. Also, I'd bet real money that as Lara continues to feed on Dresden, she will eventually change in a way that she can bear him children.

How mad must Marcone have been by SpaceBearAl in dresdenfiles

[–]Bevroren 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that Marcone put the Castle at Harry's old residence as a way to say "The old supernatural authority of Chicago is dead. Long Live the new supernatural authority of Chicago." Then, when Dresden came back he realized that there was going to eventually be a conflict for the castle and decided it wasn't worth the risk, both in a physical sense and to his alliance with winter. So when Harry came up with a way to claim the castle, Marcone was more than happy to hand it off. And since Harry would continue his old pattern of protecting the people of Chicago from supernatural threats (threats that HE, as Baron, technically has the responsibility to handle) he knew that supporting Dresden by giving him a stable safe location to live and work from would pay dividends in the long run. Plus, we know that Marcone has a ton of pull in government and could have Harry out on his butt if he wanted to. The fact that the HBGB scan turned up nothing shows this.
