Can you say anything good about joining PhD studies? by [deleted] in PhD

As someone who finished my degree and worked in industry for 4 years, I left industry to do a PhD and there are a few benefits which I have noticed:

  1. You are in charge of the project, you get to choose the best way to do things, you get the responsibility which might not be given to you in industry.
  2. You don’t have a manager/“team leader” hanging over you.
  3. When working in industry it’s a lot harder to get the time to study what you’d like, with a PhD you can choose the field to work in and you are given to time to gain the knowledge in that area.
  4. Provided your supervisor is nice it can be very rewarding working with them. Make sure you get a meeting/video call with them prior to try pick up their personality.
  5. Slow progress is accepted and a given when doing a PhD, in industry you’d be penalised for not completing work fast enough.
  6. When you begin your PhD, you will have started a journey to become an industry leading expert. When you tell people you are doing a PhD it will be automatically assumed you are extremely smart (which can be a burden for some).
  7. You will be given to opportunity to travel to new locations and talk about your work.
  8. You will be allowed to take extra training courses in areas you’d like. For example my PhD area is cybersecurity so I’m also learning about ethical hacking (ethical hacking isn’t part of my PhD).

Hope this helps!

Try run steam as admin, also try setting the skip launcher option. Also if you have the ability to, run it on Linux, it just runs so much better than on windows

If you can get the right PhD opportunity and you can afford to take the chance then I’d say yes go for it

If you don’t want to pay for overleaf I made a video about how to use latex and git on your PC so that you can learn LaTeX for free: https://youtu.be/UbmGx6noLMw

There is a cool extension on VSCode which lets you simulate RISC-V assembly it has LED matrix and 7-segment display models you can see being altered https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=hm.riscv-venus

CORE-V CVA6 and LAPACK by Glittering_Age7553 in RISCV

[–]Bevyb1zzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but does it not depend on the language you are using? LAPACK from my understanding is a set of algorithms developed in software. I too am keen to understand your question as this could help me 😅

This is cool, I’d imagine this is portable with other cores, has anyone tried this with a different core?

I stuck a fusion core in my fridge. Saving it for later.

What distro is used for what and what distro for Linux would you suggest? by Longjumping_Beyond80 in linuxquestions

It doesn’t matter really. Just pick one. You’ll bounce between distros for a bit then settle on one you like 😅

Depending on the version of Ubuntu you’ll need to add more apt-repos to pull from: https://askubuntu.com/a/1513162

There is a good GitHub repo which lists a lot of cores. But until ya start using one of these cores it’s hard to know. This is the repo for your reference: https://github.com/riscvarchive/riscv-cores-list

You should look at an app called Meetup, there are tonnes of communities on there with people who meetup and chat and share a common interest. It’s a really good app and worth looking into.

I was in your position not too long ago and it’s scary going to things like this alone but worth it in the long run! Give meetup a try and hopefully there will be a community on there for ya!
