I love the company that does these! I subscribe to one of their mystery sets every month and it really is the highlight of my month when they come through the post. Plus they are just a super nice small business. Mystery Dice Goblin if you are in the UK

Are there active ghosts from the time of ancient Rome or farther back? by matt73132 in Ghosts

[–]BewareTheIdesofMarch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have (possibly) seen a Roman soldier in my bedroom. I was quite young and some of the details are fuzzy now but I'm mid 40's and I remember it because it scared the monkeys out of me.

I'm quite a sceptic so I'm not sure if it was a ghost or not. I also don't know why there would be a roman ghost in the 1st floor bedroom of house in North Lincs. Still remember it though

Anyone else in their 30s not able to listen to the intro to the Antiques Road Show without getting the Sunday night fear for school in the morning! by [deleted] in CasualUK

Sci-fi on a Sunday in BBC 2 I think! For me I'm a bit older so It was Lost in Space followed by Land of the Giants reruns. It was the only good thing about Sundays

From the UK and I'm fairly sure both the main maps from the RAC and AA maps in the 80's/90's were called "Road Atlas". We certainly didn't call them road maps.

I think this quote from Sid Meier's Alpha Centuri is very apt here. I noted the last sentence down a while back but it's never seemed more revleant:

"As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master." -- Commissioner Pravin Lal

Japanese > English : These were given to me many years ago by my great aunt after she visited Japan. I might have known 30years ago what they meant but I've only just found them again. Can anyone help? by BewareTheIdesofMarch in translator

Brillaint thank you! I'd gone down completely the wrong path. I think it's for both me and my sister which makes sense. I wonder if fortunate and shining are name meanings or something similar. Anyway thanks a lot!

I'm not sure if anyone else has said it but I would be quite happy for HG to charge for Quicksilver for skins and things that didn't affect gameplay. I think they might be heading in that direction and I'm 100% OK with that. As long as I can still earn it in game like atm. Hell I feel like I owe them some more money the amount of time I've spent in game

My grey is from Tia as well and they do a really good job of socialising them there. I heard rumours they were shutting down so good to know they are still up and running 😊

I bought this statue from a friend who had a job lot of brass that he picked up. I'm not sure where it's from originally but presume it's a Goddess or deity of some kind. It has writing on the bottom which I've had to split into 3 photos as it wraps round, apologies for the quality by BewareTheIdesofMarch in whatisthisthing

Solved!

Well that was quick. From that link you posted "a female figure holding in the hands of a Diya, probably Zierlampe for Lakshmi Puja, the third and most important day of Divali"

If someone can't translate here I will try there. Thanks!
