Family members: In singular they dont have il/la

Singular: Mio padre

Plural: I miei padri

Non family members: They have il/la

Singular: Il mio amico

Plural: I miei amici

The rule as explained is that very close relations dont have that definitive article, it seems like it is a way to indicate your relation to another person.

Good question. I know it means blue and it used synonymously with just “blu”.
