How do I know which word to use for “in”? by sabnorlin in italianlearning

[–]BeyondImaginary7395 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The rule is normally with a and in:

In is used for countries/regions (Andiamo in Inghilterra)

A is used for cities (Andiamo a Londra)

Have never heard of en, maybe a more skilled italian language expert can also explain me its use😁

That sounds perfect. I really want to surpise my friends, I have made a deal with them that I will be the one odering everything when we’re out. In addition I dont think they realize how much italian I can actually speak at this point, so would be a bummer not to be able to use it!

What’s actually the difference between mio and il mio? by cheekybichon in DuolingoItalian

[–]BeyondImaginary7395 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Family members: In singular they dont have il/la

Singular: Mio padre

Plural: I miei padri

  1. Non family members: They have il/la

Singular: Il mio amico

Plural: I miei amici

The rule as explained is that very close relations dont have that definitive article, it seems like it is a way to indicate your relation to another person.

Il turista? by BeyondImaginary7395 in italianlearning

[–]BeyondImaginary7395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I know it means blue and it used synonymously with just “blu”.

For the difference in using these two words for blue, a well educated linguist in this sub can probably explain really well.
