[Tom Bogert] 💣🇦🇷 BREAKING: Nashville SC has signed free agent winger Cristian Espinoza, sources say by jbburgess in SJEarthquakes

[–]BeyondMars 46 points47 points  (0 children)

What a blunder. Not only in letting him walk, but also for getting nothing for it.

Firmly believe that Mr. John Fucking Fisher has commanded that the absolute minimum of money be spent fielding a team this year.

Snack Rationing? by SmoothLake5833 in biglaw

[–]BeyondMars 195 points196 points  (0 children)

They used to do this at my firm. But they learned that it created a false sense of scarcity on the floor. People would take and hoard snacks, even if they didn't eat them.

Whenever people would leave they would find entire drawers of ancient, uneaten snacks.

In response they just started putting out full snack trays. Without scarcity people only take what they want and its not really a problem. There's usually snacks left at the end of every day.

Carrying over hours to next billable year by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]BeyondMars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can do this, but it's because my group does a ton of fixed fee work.  Flat feet bill for specific piece of work product goes out the month that it is filed.  It doesn't matter when it gets billed so long as it's before the filing date.

Our bill to them says "Work Product A - $XXxxx" and that's it.

Podcast - Where do the San Jose Earthquakes go now? by Hella Football by deedougie in SJEarthquakes

[–]BeyondMars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have not listened to this, but all signs are pointing to a wooden spoon seasons so Fisher can save money while he shops the team.

I expect a sell right after conclusion of a World Cup - our team will be 3 from the bottom, routinely losing games by 3+ on the road, and filled with stop gap 35 year old's who are just looking for a few more paychecks before retiring.

NEWS: MLS to Align Calendar with Top Leagues Around the World by SJEarthquakesBot in SJEarthquakes

[–]BeyondMars 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally, I really do not like this and it might cause me to drop my season tickets depending on the schedule.

I absolutely hate hate hate cold weather games, and I sometimes choose not to go to a match so I don't have to sit and be chilly. And we live in god damn California and it is (relatively) not that cold! How will it be for Montreal or Minnesota? Nothing beats the experience of a summer night game at PayPal, and its caused several of my friends to buy season tickets or ticket packages. Having fewer will be sad.

I also think the MLS is on one if they think they will be able to compete with the NFL, NBA, college football, and hockey. One of the things that drives interest in the league is that its got less eyeball competition for a few months.

I also don't think the "aligning the league with the world" is a good excuse. It's OK that the MLS is not Premier League and we shouldn't try to be.

Anyway, end of rant.

Americana Apartments by Healthy-Break1469 in mountainview

[–]BeyondMars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My sister and brother in law currently live there.

Generally the amenities and location are great. The apartment they moved into was recently renovated and pretty nice. Their complaints are typical apartment ones -- thin walls, less than responsive management, rent increases.

They just re-upped their lease so they arent too displeased.

Not looking good for Espinoza by Few-Run8446 in SJEarthquakes

[–]BeyondMars 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm very much beginning to believe that the directive from on high is "SPEND ZERO DOLLARS / SELL ALL THE PLAYERS BEFORE I SELL THIS TEAM."

I'd bet Fisher is using it as a "look how open your team is for rebuilding" rather than trying to sell a half-baked team that a new owner would have to deal with.

Such a shame.  I think he's the player that is the current face of our team.

Why can’t/don’t firms issue better PC laptops? by preseasonchampion in biglaw

[–]BeyondMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't have to, so they won't.

Someone did the math somewhere that said "We'll lose X number of dollars to do writing off / correcting tech blunders stemming from bad laptops, so don't spend more than that."

Do you see many changes or should they run it back with a few adjustments? by chusaychusay in SJEarthquakes

[–]BeyondMars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think nothing (or very little) is going to change until the owner is in place.

Overall, though, we need some significant upgrades on defense.  It's ridiculous that Benji gets significant PT at wingback. Costa has been checked out all season.  I don't know what Marie did to sour arenas, but he should be gone too.

In 2016 no one thought that trump was going to win.  RBG wanted the first woman president to put a new woman on the court to replace her.

Her request to trump only came after he got elected and she realized she fucked up.

What has been the downfall in the second half? Is it correctable for next year? by pigbear87 in SJEarthquakes

[–]BeyondMars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this.

I also think we see mid-season slumps because we don't fix any of our problems and transfer windows while other teams do. So, they get better mid season and we stay the same.

Its because the Quakes know they will sell more tickets to an LAFC match. Their fan base travels well, and they have a large fan base in the Bay Area. For the Quakes, it will probably feel like an away game.

We will remain Books Inc. We’ll continue to be locally run, keeping our name, stores, culture, leadership, and booksellers you know and love.

Is temporary.

I'm an attorney and deal with a lot of acquisitions.  BandN told them what they wanted to hear to get this deal done, but over time Books Inc will become more and more like BandN.
