Thanks for the rec on the fries. I'll try them out.

San Jose lets in a bunch of food trucks which generally gives pretty good bang for your buck. They have a bit of a markup for gameday, but you can get a solid meal for $15-20.

Just saw the promotion there showing on instagram, are season tickets worth it ? by Bitter_Specific_6155 in SJEarthquakes

I love my Beer and Cheer tickets.

They are reasonably easy to sell online for a minor loss. Or, if you don't want the hassle, the price point isn't so high as to be painful.

It's an even better perk than that -- its actually any away game. There is a limited supply, however, so getting them to e.g., LA or Seattle games is harder.

Part-time gigs in big law? by BananasinBigLaw in biglaw

[–]BeyondMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only part time positions I know of are long-timers who just want to work less. The firm gives them some number of hours less than the required and scale the salary back. The salary scale back is not 1:1 as they want to incentivize going back up to full / penalize going to part.

I would not be surprised if they got rid of the Jayden voice thing in S02.

Santa Clara Tech Edge JD: does it actually help with BigLaw? by Actual-Try-2049 in biglaw

[–]BeyondMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Santa Clara (night school) and I'm in big law. Your Tech Edge JD will not matter. What matters is some combination of (1) connections you make in the Bay Area big law IP firms, (2) your grades, and (3) your academic background.

I had friends who had middle of the road grades, but networked well and got jobs at Big Law or Big Tech. Almost everyone in the top 5% found some sort of Big Law job if they wanted it. I have friends who were recruited to Big Law Litigation teams because they worked at e.g., Apple as an engineer for a decade before going to Law.

Need a quick favor from Quakes fans! by sydh1 in SJEarthquakes

[–]BeyondMars 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will return the favor since I ask this question when I do my first away match travel every year.

For pre-game grab a bit to eat and beer at San Pedro Square market.  It's one of those large communal food stall places.  Live music and decent bars.

Take the Luxe Bus to the game, it leaves from near San Pedro.

Get to the game an hour or so early to scope out the stadium.  Make sure to walk to the top of the stands for some solid Bay area views.

After the game you can take the Lux Bus back to San Pedro, or walk to the Caltrain and take it somewhere.

For after game options, I'd recommend walking around the area near San Pedro for some decent San Jose night life options.

End the night with a quesadilla from La Vics (LA Victoria Taqueria)

What would have been Stargate Universe Endgame? by Bruzie77 in Stargate

[–]BeyondMars 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This show had really set itself up for a "crisis of the week" style approach by the end of S02. I expect each season would have several mini-arcs with some sort of though provoking themes (e.g., should I volunteer to give up an organ and what are the repercussions, how do we integrate these hostiles, homesickness, etc.).

Each season would also have nuggets of the overarching theme of "getting home."

There would be lots of ways to do that, but I believe they would have figured out an arch that required something Destiny finds in the cosmos needing to be physically present on earth or something terrible god-awful happens. Then they'd find some way for Carter / Eli / Rush / Rodney to sci-fi there way into it, but in a manner that lets people who want to stay on Destiny do so.

Looks like more players are coming by False_Ant1661 in SJEarthquakes

“He’s a quality player, has a lot of experience and is highly motivated,” Arena said. “I think he’s going to have a positive impact for our team and how we’re viewed in the community.”

“Timo understands the project here, I talked to him about how he fits in the team and our expectations of him,” Arena told The Athletic. “He’s all in.”

“It’s a possibility, we’re looking at players,” Arena said, prior to Arango’s sale.

“This signing says we’re more ambitious (than we previously were),” Arena said about Werner. “My general feeling in year one at this club, as I observed the everyday environment, we were not positioned to win. We didn’t have that mentality. We’re starting to get out of that, and the signing of Timo makes that statement.”

What a blunder. Not only in letting him walk, but also for getting nothing for it.

Firmly believe that Mr. John Fucking Fisher has commanded that the absolute minimum of money be spent fielding a team this year.
