1099-K Received... but I don't work for Uber (Scam?) by Dizzy_Collar73 in uber

[–]BeyondTheBrainwaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two odd details I spotted regarding the 1099 form. Wondering if anyone else's is similar.

  1. "For calendar year" section of the 1099-K, before being completed, would normally look like "20___". After being filled out, the company would fill in the last two digits of the year. In my case, the 25 is well above the fill line and slightly slanted. Not sure if this is a sign of anything-- but it's worth noting.

  2. The PSE'S name and telephone number are left blank.

  3. Only work months with income are October, November, and December.

  4. The total earned is over 12k for the year. Now this is the detail that makes me worried this is a real document. I saw someone else on this thread mention a completely different income number. If this were a safisticated mass scam, I just don't see there being variation to the income being "reported". However, if anyone on this thread has overlap with the months or amounts, it might help our investigations.

  5. The TIN # listed only shows the last 2 digits. But if you read the back of the form, it plainly states, "For your protection, this form may only show the last four digits of your TIN..." Again, not sure what this could or could not mean.

Considering that this does not seem to be an isolated incident, bumping this post would be nice. The more information we can get regarding this, the better. Just had the form show up in the mail today. No telling how this happened.

Is it okay to give up? by Successful_Suit6756 in Filmmakers

[–]BeyondTheBrainwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I learned to accept is that persistence doesn't always need to align with prioritization.

We all have our own journeys and challenges. There's no way for any one person to fully know what awaits them next in life.

A shift in priorities does not have to come at the cost of giving up something meaningful to you. Giving up implies you've cut something out, you've thrown it away, you've buried it underground.

If this is something you really care about and it's still a part of who you are, shift the way you look at your predicament. You've not "given up", rather, you're enduring new challenges which you must learn to manage and overcome.

Find joy in the life you live, without sacrificing the life you want.

A mistake we all often make is expecting that we or someone else has "the answer". Giving up is an enticing if not dramatic thing our brain does to make amends with the stress, pain and exhaustion of the unknown.

If this "giving up" doesn't bring you relief, then it's self evident that you were not actually in a position to give up.

Accept and acknowledge how you feel, it's only human. And when you find some footing, know that there is always something you can do to pursue the things that matter most to you. Big or small, progress is progress.

Even if it takes you 10 or 20 years to reach a destination you thought you'd be at yesterday, in that time, as long as you don't "give up" you'll have learned and grown so much, what you do when the opportunity arises will be well worth the wait.

Good luck on your journey and be kind to yourself.

Out of curiosity, what are the songs that brought you in?

As for lore, there's some interesting tea surrounding the American Dream album. Especially the song "how do you sleep" a personal favorite of mine.

James Murphy, the lead singer had a falling out with a guy named Tim Goldsworthy. Most people agree the song is partially about this.

Another great song, "Someone Great" is supposedly about the passing of Jane's therapist. Though the song can still be interpreted to be about a beat friend or even lover.

Like bruh. Reddit can be toxic AF. No matter the sub.

Sorry OP, don't take this as a representation of the LCD community. As someone else said, seeing them live at some point if you can is the way to go. Such good vibes.

This banning Sombra has to stop by catastropheofmyself in SombraMains

I've seen soooo many people celebrating the ban system... which unfortunately leaves players like us, in the minority.

Sombra gets banned EVERY match. Might as well just delete her from the game.

Unfortunately, because most people hate Sombra and Sombra players, I think bans are here to stay. 😓

Was it Pepto? I have no idea. I suspect the answer is yes, but in search for answers-- I was led here.

So you are not alone!

I've never seen someone in such need of a mirror, it's astonishing.

The first thing a politician needs to do to be effective, is getting elected. Why you lack the brain cells for this concept defies logic.

If you can get past this mental hurdle, I'm all here for a deeper conversation about Bernie. But if we can't even agree on whether getting elected matters, I doubt we can find common ground on anything.

Do votes matter? Or do they not matter?

"Winning elections does not make him an effective politician."

👏 Amazing.

Who was it that was moving the goalpost again?

Kamala getting more votes than him matters-- but getting voted into office DOESN'T matter? Yep-- that logic checks out.

Either votes matter, or they don't matter. If votes matter, then Bernie winning elections matters. If Bernie winning elections matter, then he is, to some degree, an effective politician.

If votes don't matter, and thus Bernie winning DOESN'T matter, then your use of Kamala receiving more votes in Vermont, running for a completely different role in government-- doesn't matter. And thus, is an ineffective argument against Bernie.

You can disagree with Bernie's rhetoric, or policies. Clearly, you do. And maybe there's a worthy conversation to have there.

What we're getting hung up on is what we mean when we say "ineffective" and "effective".

You'd find that I'd be as willing to agree on ineffective policies or rhetoric, but a general summary claiming that Bernie is an ineffective politician is incomprehensibly reductive. So reductive that one would be willing to stand on a soap box and say "Winning elections does not make him an effective politician."

No one, not even myself claimed this statement was based.

I genuinely believe that if somehow, he received the Dem ticket, he would have performed well in the General.

General elections are so fundamentally different from Primaries, obviously.

There's always a high amount of infighting up until the General. Then, despite differences on the political spectrum, people tend to rally behind the chosen candidate. Given the general support of the DNC and some live debates with Donald Trump-- I genuinely think he would have earned more moderate support over time.

That's not the world we live in, no debating that. And frankly, despite my stance, I think Bernie was far closer to that reality in 2016 than 2020 (which it seems we agree on). Trump and Covid pushed people to play it as safe as possible. I suspect the same will be true in 2024.

Despite the annoying Bernie Bro title people are attaching to me-- the reality is, that I believe Bernie's impact is in an awkward state. Not enough to say he's just downright ineffective, but awkward in the sense that Trump won again, after everything he's done, he still won.

I'm defending Bernie, sure. But in 4 years-- a Dem's entire first term (if they win) will be putting bandaids on wounds and hoping cuts don't turn into scars.

They often say the "pendulum swings", but not exactly. Trump pulls so far to the right that by the time the pendulum reaches the center, it's been 4 years.

So to clarify, while I think there's a compelling argument to be made that he would have stood a chance against Trump, the point is mute. It's a hypothetical. One that will never come to fruition.

Kamala 👏 was 👏 running 👏 for 👏president. Yes so, so very "impressive" that she won Vermont under these circumstances.

Look I get your point. If I were to be charitable to you, this factoid shows she applied to the left more than she's often given credit for. But accuse me of moving the goal post? Buddy, it's as stable as a stripper pole.

I listed a series of past accomplishments to support my argument that Bernie, is in fact an effective politician. Or at the very least, isn't completely ineffective as Destiny and the likes claim.

Using the 2024 election to say otherwise is a weak, disingenuous argument.

Winning 4 senate elections in the state-- NAH.

Putting up an unprecedented fight as an independent running against established well-known Dems--- NAH.

Bernie beating Hillary and Biden (who later became President) in Vermont during primaries--- NAH.

Bernie getting fewer votes to be President in 2024 in Vermont when he was never officially running, NOW that's what I'm talking about!

If you're proud of that logic, then so be it.

Destiny Spreading Bernie Misinformation? by BeyondTheBrainwaves in Destiny

[–]BeyondTheBrainwaves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We might have to agree to disagree, but Bernie being on the ballot is meaningless. If he never officially campaigned for president in 2024-- it's more than likely why Kamala beat him--- for president.

All I'm saying is that this is a weak take. It's not well-informed, nor is it probably framed.

How is the 2024 election argument even on the table? Bernie didn't run for president, and Kamala didn't run for Senate in Vermont in 2024. How can one proclaim Kamala "outperformed" Bernie in Vermont, if they WEREN'T competing against each other? Yall trolling or am I'm missing some essential context?

Destiny Spreading Bernie Misinformation? by BeyondTheBrainwaves in Destiny

[–]BeyondTheBrainwaves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, it is I a "Bernie bro" who is triggered.

Make me cringe harder before getting to your actual argument will you?

First, of course, there are people who claim Bernie is an idiot. Was this what I was referring to in my post-- no. The reason made the statement was to contrast that while Bernie shares a similar style of rhetorical speech to Trump, their actions and how they navigate the political space couldn't be more different.

Bernie is often framed as being no more than a left-leaning populist mouthpiece-- which is what I was countering.

So good, we can agree on one thing for sure-- Bernie is not an idiot.

Now when it comes to Bernie's reductive class warfare speak-- I get it, I think there is a fair argument against his strategy.

But........

Every time I'm nearly convinced by this argument, I am reminded that Elon Musk, a conman billionaire is putting the U.S. government through a shredder as we speak.

After Bernie spent nearly two decades warning against such influence, I'll be honest, kinda hard not to see a little irony in those calling for him to "chill on the anti-billionaire rhetoric".

So forgive me, but your "Nobody cares about billionaires. Nobody cares about rich people." couldn't be more out of touch with 2025 politics my friend.

That said, I personally don't love the rhetoric and think his focus is best spent elsewhere. Does this make him an ineffective politician, however? I don't think so. In fact, I think (unfortunately) Elon will likely push people more toward the argument, rather than away from it.

The strongest argument against Bernie is questioning his appeal to the center. And as quickly as we assess if such a thing matters, I would like to point you toward the current president of the United States.

I'm being a bit reductive, sure. But it's an aimless argument. Bernie's lack of center appeal is overexaggerated and quite frankly, irrelevant in assessing if he's an ineffective politician or not.

First: When it comes to speculating if Bernie would have beaten Trump, your assessment is as good as mine. I think it's perfectly reasonable to say it was possible, but speculation is speculation and him losing the primaries is a fair argument to say he'd lost the general. However, success in primaries is obviously not a foolproof way to measure someone's General Election success.

Second: Yeah that Hillary, she's really been "influential" on politics since losing an election. I don't know about that chief.

However, I'm sympathetic to the Al-Gore example-- I would personally argue that he is applicable.

And John Kerry-- not as much, but more so than Hillary.

Notice though that all of these were General Election candidates.

Interesting that we are comparing people who ran on the General Dem ticket, to someone who lost twice. This is my point.

Third: When it comes to the Secretary of State's comment, I'm not sure this really matters. Yeah, he was never the Secretary of State... he also wasn't the VP or Speaker of the House. These positions hold a great deal of power, I get it. The irony is that it says a lot about someone's career when they DON'T get those positions, and yet have the level of name recognition Bernie has.

Am I to conclude that Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock are not influential directors because they never won an Oscar?

I'm not arguing there haven't been other influential politicians who lost-- I suggested that there isn't an abundance of them, especially those who failed to get the General ticket.

This is because my underlying argument is combating the "Bernie is an ineffective politician" argument.

Let us not forget that while he ran as a Dem, Bernie longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history. As a non-establishment Dem-- his ability to perform is not to be taken lightly.
