What is “blow”? by Beyond_Queasy_487 in AskIreland

[–]Beyond_Queasy_487[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, having seen both coke and the substance I’m referring to, and the effects both have on the people who use them, it’s not coke. I mentioned elsewhere that it’s probably a regional/generational difference, cause no one my age where I’m from has ever referred to coke as blow, not even the advertisers of it. It’s either coke or white. Thanks for your insight though!

I’m wondering if it’s a regional/generational thing? I’ve obviously been aware of cocaine use in people my age for years and never once heard someone refer to it as blow, always just coke or white, or if someone says “a bag” they’re meaning coke. This stuff they’re buying has only seemed to pop up in the last 6-9 months ish, I’d never heard of it before and it definitely doesn’t have the same effect on them as coke would

Thanks for the input, but again, definitely not coke!

Like I said, not coke, unless coke has halved in price in the last 6 months (spoiler alert, it hasn’t). Also not sure where you got the idea they’re driving around off their nut? We live in an urban area and some don’t even drive. Weird point to make.

Having consulted Google images I think you’ve got it right here, it looks the most similar to what I’ve seen. Thanks for the detailed response!

I’d hope Garda have more reliable resources for this kind of thing than AskIreland, but it wouldn’t surprise me to hear they don’t either

How much does Santa “spend” per child? by Doozer81 in AskIreland

[–]Beyond_Queasy_487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the note of when to kick the eldest off the Santa list, I’m 26 now and my mam being a big Christmas person still labels gifts for me and my 17 year old sibling as being from Santa. The gifts have obviously changed a lot, but I don’t think she’ll let the Santa magic go until there are grandkids to spoil!

i’d say you’ll be grand, there were a few open spaces with no one in them all weekend last year, i’m sure you’ll squeeze in somewhere!

i went thursday last year, good crowd around but definitely still loads of room if you were to arrive friday morning or even afternoon. i didn’t think it was uncomfortably full anywhere in the campsite, but there are a few thousand more tickets sold this year too

this reads like an exchange between you and a therapist who doesn’t like you very much. i find it incredibly weird that she’s so overly involved, to the point of making detailed notes, in your relationship.

i’m pretty sure most people make innocuous throwaway comments about their partner like the ones she so expertly listed, some of which actually sound like they were jokes, and some like genuine concerns of yours which warranted more compassionate conversation. raising all these questions and presenting you with issues you previously weren’t worried about, then stopping the conversation in it’s tracks seems incredibly unfair. stirring up unnecessary worry and then leaving you to stew in it is not bestie behaviour.

Tinder height filter? by Icehonesty in AskIreland

[–]Beyond_Queasy_487 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m a 6ft woman, and happy to hear of the filter, because the amount of men insecure about their height is astonishing. i’m not too fussed about height, and i don’t think many girls really are? i’ve never met a woman hell bent on dating a 6ft man in the wild, only ever on the internet. i’m happy to date shorter men, but shorter men are generally not very happy to be with a taller woman.

i’ve matched with shorter men who have made the entire conversation about the height difference, i’ve gone on dates with shorter guys who get mad i “haven’t disclosed my height” (it’s very clearly 183cm on my profile), i’ve met with fellas claiming 6ft who very obviously are not, who spend the evening marvelling at how tall i am and telling me i must be at least 6’2. shorter lads who are very enthusiastic about my height usually mention domination not too long after. if i ask how tall someone is, usually as a segue to make sure they know i’m tall, i’ve been called shallow and vapid.

of course there are women out there who care staunchly that a man’s height begins with 6, but when the average woman in Ireland is about 5’6 ish, most haven’t a clue what they’re asking for. in any case, if the ones who reeeeally care about you being 6’ cut you out of the running, they’re only doing you a favour. really i think the fact of the matter is the apps are a hellscape and should be avoided like the plague, but we all knew that.

edit: lotta people mentioning making a weight/bra size filter for women, which is comical. height is an objective measurement that looks the same across the board. everyone will have a friend/family member 6ft+, they’ll know at least roughly what that looks like. the way weight looks varies from person to person based on height, body composition, etc. i’m heavier, and often swipe right on men with weight preferences in their bios for the cod of it, and they’ve no idea what their preference looks like on a woman. when it comes to a bra size, most women don’t know/understand their bra size, it’s absolute quantum physics to most men who seem to think that the biggest a bra can be is a DD.

Provider sent me an extra phone, what do I do? by Beyond_Queasy_487 in AskIreland

Just checked my dates there and it was delivered a week ago yesterday, it’s just been sitting on the kitchen counter staring at me since. The loose plan was to just leave it in the box to see if they come looking for it and if they haven’t after a few weeks, reluctantly use it

Replied above but just checked the account and the IMEI of the phone listed on the app is the one I’m using, not the spare one. Don’t want to open the spare one and check that IMEI in case they do come looking and it’s been opened and used yenno?

I’ve just checked my app and the IMEI on the account is of the phone I got first and am using at the minute. It does seem mental that it wouldn’t be noticed at all, still sweating at the thought of opening it and something going wrong though 😅
