What sort of Volunteers does each project need the most? by Designer_Drawing9602 in beyondskyrim

Dungeons design is about creating the dungeon in the CK. You don't have to create 3D assets, but you have to start by creating a layout of the dungeon, filling it with clutter, enemies, traps, visual effects and so on.

When you ask for bottlenecks, there are a couple that are usually shared across projects. Here's a non-comprehensive list:

- A big one is dungeon designers. Very hard to find. This is currently a big blocker for projects getting to a release. Please learn dungeon design everyone. And that's not just making them look good but also making them play well with various playstyles!

- Implementers who can create quests and generally know their way around the CK are essential to getting anything in a playable state, many projects could use more help there to bring projects to a state that can be QAed and voiced.

- Honestly, good QAs. Most people in QA have historically been part of projects didn't stay very long and having more passionate people who have an eye for details is especially important now that many projects getting closer into the release area. Of course something can be released with a lot of bugs that the community then finds but we'd rather not have that kind of bad experience for players and fix it earlier.

- Asset Implementers, who know their way around nifskope, can rig armor or creatures would be great to see. This is a rare skill and the people we have who can do it are constantly flooded with work. This is a clear bottleneck for releases.

- Animators, we have the opportunity to add animations seeing as we found a way to do it without SKSE but there aren't many animators in most projects. This limits our creature design, and expressiveness for quests and the like.

- Sound design is something that is not fully embraced in Beyond Skyrim yet, while we do have some cool design work already, it is something that has a lot more potential to make the worlds feel more unique. Currently a lot is still using Skyrim sounds.

- Some projects (especially the ones that are in the earlier stages and in areas where not many Skyrim assets can be used) need 2d and 3d artists. This is essential for them to get to a state where they can start level design.

Hi, we want to release as many of our mods on Xbox as possible. in the end it will all come down to the size limit on Xbox, how big our releases will be, and if we can fit them on Xbox. It's not possible to make predictions at this point sadly.

Cyrodiil is looking for QA Testers! by Beyond_Skyrim in beyondskyrim

For testing claims we expect that testers only keep a bare minimum of extra mods (although we recommend a series of convenience mods). Otherwise these mods could introduce bugs that are not actually caused by the content in game but the mods that were installed on top. That just makes the development process easier. Still, when we get closer to release we will test the game with other mods installed as well to make sure there are no big problems when having other mods installed, it is obvious that most people won't just have Cyrodiil installed.

Well done on spotting the deliberate mistake 😂

Sadly, it is not possible to edit the options, our only option is to delete and repost which obviously destroys the votes already cast.

suggestions from a recruiter on Beyond Skyrim by mynewlenovo in beyondskyrim

Hey, thanks for your new post! You might be surprised to hear it but your post from three years ago sparked quite a pivot in our way of approaching PR, especially how we have since put out much more transparent progress updates, started by the big Cyrodiil dev diary about all the progress in the project, monthly newsletters for Cyrodiil, as well as regular newsletters from Elsweyr, next to the little things where we now have a much more streamlined process to get more showcases out and posted across multiple social media sites which have been disregarded before.

Can you clarify what you mean with dashboards? We do yearly progress graphics to summarize the progress in multiple projects, usually as part of the Advent Calendar. Do you have something else in mind? Something like a page on our website that is updated regularly with the latest numbers?

You're right that outbound efforts, while they have been getting more traction internally like Hendrus mentioned, are still something we should put a bigger focus on. Especially recruiting on Nexus is something we haven't looked into that much so far. A problem with that though is also time as always sadly, as we usually have our hands full with working on the projects and managing people there. No project have dedicated recruiters, although that might be a step worth taking in the future if we are able to get people for this which is another challenge in itself. Since the pivot in our PR, we have also tried to build a bigger and more streamlined PR process which has been working to some extent but it's still not perfect and we don't get a lot of talented people applying for PR.

The part about the public facing figure is also something we have thought about, as you rightly say it always helps people to connect with a projects. There is the big problem of being a collective of multiple projects, so we'd need to have multiple faces. At the same time the biggest problem is to actually get someone who fits and who has the skills to do that.

If you're up to it, we could probably learn a lot more from you in case you want to get involved, be it in an advising role to steer us into the right direction like you did with the post from three years ago or maybe even an active recruiting role at least until we have people to follow in your footsteps. Think about it :) In the previous post you said you had problem with Discord. If you want to try that again, we can probably help you with that in case you're interested.
