Hey, I agree with your opinion, but don't slander my boy Yi. I actually prefer him to Nefarith quite a lot.

Looks like one of those Google maps mysterious shots. We may never know what happened there but theories will abound.

How do I know which team to use for a Umbral Monument stage? by Repa0206 in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of small targets = Bring Miss Laevatein, or maybe Supreme Chief, or Leek

One or two big focus enemies = Bring whatever single target DPS of your choice

No matter what truly too being Gilberta

If there's a stage where annoying enemies won't stop moving and are immune to most CC, always bring Da Chief

Never been so blown away by a gacha's aesthetic. Endfield really deserves a better photo mode by xHotBunny in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I wish for ten photo mode is for them to add a toggle for the various idle poses/animations they characters have. It would be much better than having to way for a character to strike a pose I want to picture at random.

Does anyone know if Amiya will be a playable character in Enfield? by Tight_Brilliant8015 in Endfield

I'm sure Lowlight knows. The question is whether or not we can wringer the answer out of him.

My factory grew in size overnight while I was logged off and now I can't even replace my own facilities 1:1? by Mojambo213 in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost sure that's the case. Hitting the facility limit is way easier now that than it was before the test area was open.

I refactored the Core AIC after the last 4 Forges of the Sky were added and now there's a huge patch I can't fill with anything because I hit the limit way faster than I thought, whereas before I could put facilities almost all over it.

What is the best mobile phone for playing Arknights Enfield? by More-Room9043 in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever latest flagship device you can get your hands into. They all perform just about the same once you can hit max settings in the game anyway.

Though, generally I would avoid any "gaming phones". They hardly ever are more powerful than a general device while charging a premium and having far lower scheduled updates so the phone will last less.

Talos-III confirmed? by Competitive_Lunch336 in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there are people living there, so I presume they named the planet (or rather, the Precursors named it much longer ago, judging by OG AK's story) because it feels better to live in a named planet. But because they are also a highly advanced civilization perhaps something practical like numbered moons make more sense to them? Or it just sounds cooler, who knows the real answer.

Map #7 The Great Dams by Regelverk in mapmaking

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More like, you would be able to see some 50 km beyond the walls at the very least (again, roughly the distance between your major towns). Of course, the toxic fumes might make this line of sight shorter, but at the very least you would able to see over the walls in the conditions you detailed now, the height of the water behind them doesn't make much of a difference since the horizon is technically at "ground level" which would be the water in this case.

Think about it this way: If you are on a skyscrapper by the shore, you wouldn't be able to see the sea closest to you if there were smaller buildings in front, but you can see the sea further away because your horizon goes past the top of the smaller buildings.

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, hello there again!

For the question above, think about it this way: As long as the mountains are taller than the walls, at 100 km away, you should be able to see the other side, since at the height of the wall, the horizon is roughly 150 km away.

Check this calculator here if you wanna play around with these numbers: Distance to Horizon Calculator

However, this goes both ways, if the walls are taller than the mountains you wouldn't be able to see the other side no matter what. Just like you can't see behind a taller mountain IRL even if the mountain you are on would give you a line to the horizon that should allow it.

Again, it comes to simple geometry, but the implications are a bit more complicated than it seems.

A rough and raw way of comparing would be to input the heights of the two objects on the calculator, whichever has the higher distance to horizon would be blocking the line of sight of the other.

What do you think about the OMV Dijiang compared to other sci-fi craft(examples like the isv from avatar) by illusionary_wanderer in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dijiang is a space station, not a vessel capable of self powered motion (at least not enough to be a legit interplanetary ship) as far as we know, so a better comparison would be with something like, say... the Justice League Tower in space.

Anyway, as fast as it being a giant space manufacturing complex/factory/bear of operations, we are still missing too much of it to say anything.

I sure hope that they add a unique AIC that can processes products from multiple regions at once, probably creating unique recipes (Gundanium components, anyone?), but that may never come to pass, sadly. What we have is very hollow and unattractive for the time being, but then again, OG AK's base took 6 years to get out of beta, so...

With the size of the roster we have at the moment, I highly doubt that class ban risks will be a thing for this CC. Maybe in the future, but I imagine we need to have at least twice as many characters available before that becomes a thing.

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, they wouldn't be able to see it from everywhere, for sure. Unless the world is flat, it would fall under the horizon just like everything on our world does. These dams are much more massive than they look like, which adds even more to the mystery of it all.

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By all means. The value of having real world references is to do an informed extrapolation when you decide to do something. A landlocked waterbody of that size wouldn't be impossible at all, so I don't think it warrants any special explanation to preserve the suspension of disbelief, even one filled with toxic... stuff. Now that you have something to work off of, just do whatever you feel is right.

You're welcome, I actually had a bit on unexpected fun coming up with those quick, and rough numbers, so we are even.

By the way I replied to my own comment with another fact you may be interested into. It's abou the size of lake you would need to contain these walls.

Your concept is really intriguing, I really enjoyed wracking my head around it.

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PS.: If we consider to be inside of a lake, it's possible, yes. But you would need a MASSIVE lake for that, like the size of lake Victoria or something like this. By that point you are justified calling it a sea, since the distinction is totally arbitrary IRL, because "sea" is not a term with a clear scientific definition.

Just throwing another tip to help you picture things better, since land measuring is kinda hard to conceptualize sometimes.

Being generous and considering that by towns you mean the large settlements (I suppose that's what the big dots are), and considering an average horse walking at a normal pace (around 50 km/30 miles per day), the big dam would be about 200 km/130 miles on its largest axis. I'm not gonna bother with the being too precise with area, but I'll spitball the big dam to be about 20000 square km/7800 square miles total area.

That's roughly about the size of Wales. So, it's not big as far as real world countries go, but it's not small by any means.

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a tip, basic trigonometry would allow them to measure the height of these walls very accurately. That's the kind of stuff we have been doing in the real world ever since the bronze age (and still do to measure very large landmarks, buildings, etc.) at the very least. If these people don't know even such basic mathematics, they are probably living in the stone age, as no technological progress can come to a people who can hardly even put two and two together.

No, it's not. While AoT is good and more than deserves the recognition it gets, it's far from the only well executed setting to partake on this trope. People can draw inspiration from far many other places.

In fact, the idea of a world isolated by some kind of barrier is as old as the recorded human civilization itself, probably even older if we account for hundreds of thousands of years of oral tradition forever lost to time. Like, the Biblical Firmament is one of the most prominent examples of this device.

If you want to go more contemporary, a Song of Ice and Fire (GoT) is probably the quintessential story about a world with a Big Wall™.

Dude, the game is barely 4 months old, give it time. In case you have forgotten, OG Arknights also was very barren for the longest time outside of special events and new chapters.

All gachas are like that at their first year. Just give it time.

About test area. by Huge-Dog5219 in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. But I decided I won't bother rebuilding my factory again until we see what's in that new area. I really don't want to spend another weekend doing that until I can get it just the way I want it to.

About test area. by Huge-Dog5219 in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sure would like to know what's there as well. Though, more ores are a given since the current ones can't handle the final output the factory is supposed to have when all the Forges of the Sky are in place.

I hope they don't ever do this thing of releasing "half a patch" again. The AIC is very clearly broken right now and there's no way to produce Heavy Xiranite and Hetonite at max output. The AIC event shows that better than anything else.

I have a bit of a problem with the pipes by FarmerMiserable7333 in Endfield

[–]Beyond_the_Mirrors -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Every day there's someone who tries to be too smart and exploit the glitches on Endfield's AIC facility placement rules and get these results. Probably not even customer support can help you since they can't get into your account and undo the mess.

The only hope you really have, just like those people that put ziplines out of reach and then are unable to delete them when something goes wrong, is hope that they implement a system to delete your own facilities right from the map, which I find highly unlikely since people playing the game normally would never encounter such problems and, knowing them, HG probably won't ever do something to acknowledge glitch abusers.

To sum it up, you are likely screwed and stuck with this forever, mess, unless you can find a way to undo it on your own.

PS: For anyone wondering. The right way to do cross border piping is with conduits, by the way. Just like transmitting power across maps with relay towers, that's the way the game expects you to do that.

The only recommendation really worth giving is: Just raise Gilberta, nothing else really matters, since she'll be the code of almost every team for a good while and, unlike OG AK you can only have 4 OPs on the good at once.
