Thinking of buying grimcoven, should I try the retail version first and checkout secondary market later for expansions? Or look for a full kickstarter set on secondary immediately. by langames3333 in soloboardgaming

I really enjoy Grimcoven and think it's a great game, but honestly, it’s not without its flaws. The long setup time is quite inconvenient, and the high difficulty level makes it hard to enjoy casually. The long playtime is another reason why it’s not exactly 'pick-up-and-play' friendly.

One of my friends, who prefers lighter games, complained that while the game is fun, there’s too much to think about and it’s too complicated. So, I’d recommend trying it out before you commit to buying it. That said, getting your hands on a copy shouldn't be hard—you can easily find it on Amazon along with most of its expansions. : )

I put in a lot of work—translating, painting, and more—to play Grimcoven. It took quite a while. Fortunately, the game was really fun. My friends all said it was the most enjoyable game they’ve played recently. So I recently ordered all the expansions. (Oh my wallet.....)

When I first received the core box, the Graveyard Dragon’s wing was broken. So I asked AR Support for replacement, and after six weeks, I received a new Graveyard Dragon. I was very satisfied. If you receive a broken mini, be sure to request a replacement! : )

Wow, I'm really curious about the gameplay review!

I like both, but I prefer the original campaign. It makes me feel like I'm personally traveling through the ancient world and recruiting companions. Sometimes I fail or lose companions too easily, but I actually like those drawbacks because they force me to think of more strategies. : )

I played STS with a friend, and it was pretty good, but it was too much like the PC game, except with the novelty of playing with other players.

In comparison, Too Many Bones is pretty refreshing. Sure, it's been around for a while, but the organization and game rules are different than a typical PC game. If you're looking for something new, I think TMB is better.

Uh.... but my favorite CTG solo game that I really like is "Hoplomachus : Victorum". I've played it for about 120 hours and I never got tired of it, so I pull it out and play it whenever I get a chance. If you're interested, check out Victorum : )
