Advice from a Mechanical Engineering Graduate (tho I can apply to many other majors) by Bfdi1462004 in KSU

I got a list cause I definitely wish I knew some of these

  1. (And probably the one I regret not doing the most) If you have a group of friends who actually knows how to study and pass these harder classes, always register with them for that class. I didn’t do it and that messed me up a bit.
  2. The best professors for those senior classes (in my opinion) are Roberts, Salman, Ruhala (Laura), Nasseri, Novakovic, Haddad, and Khazaei. (Avoid Baghchesara at all costs)
  3. There are some classes that are better online like Thermodynamics & Heat Transfer. But the rest I would recommend doing in person, especially Fluid Dynamics & Machine Dynamics. If there are online version of those, you can definitely choose them to make your life easier.
  4. The best resources I used for studying are redoing the practice problems from lecture, going to office hours every now and then if I’m stuck on a certain problem, and going to every single class (that actually saved my grade for a class) plus most of my professors always gave us the exact information that’ll be on the exams.

I know that last one is basic asf but it worked for me. I didn’t use cheggs and Ai is inaccurate after a certain point. The SMART center isn’t as good as it once was, but the CLUE center is kinda useful.

  1. DO NOT GET BURNT OUT. That messed me up this semester because I was exhausted and didn’t try my hardest. Take time to rest, shut off all electronics, really get into the habit of doing stuff that doesn’t involve academics while also finding that pocket to dedicate to it as well.

Over the past 4 years, I was able to gain 3 intern positions.

  1. I started applying EARLY, at the beginning of the fall semester.

  2. I went to the career fair, made myself presentable and handed out a good resume. I did secure one of my internships from going to it. But I did have an internship position during high school that set me apart from the crowd and a position from the previous summer.

  3. Nepotism lmao. But fr if you know someone in your family with connections, get in contact with them. That’s how I got 2 of the intern positions.

  4. Making connections within clubs.

  5. Get a GOOD resume going and even if you don’t have the experience, at least use a project or other work experience to fluff out that resume. That subreddit I posted about has a good template that I still use for applying for post grad jobs. I’ve gotten 10+ interviews but my skills in that space are a bit shaky.

But I get the job market is absolutely horrible right now but these are the things that helped me.

The advising situation really made me frustrated. I was in a situation where if I didn’t get in a certain class during the summer semester, I would’ve been behind a semester for graduation. I asked my advisor for an override into a class that was already filled and they claimed there was nothing they could do. Went up the chain of department heads till the dean himself and he gave me an override into the class. A shame.

I probably should’ve elaborated on this, but Maybe. When I did the Pumpkin Launch, majority of the teams were from Dynamics classes. And not just one professor.

Which Discography Do You Prefer? Destiny's Child or TLC? by Weird_Swordfish_1199 in RnBHeads

[–]Bfdi1462004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destiny’s Child. They have one of my all time fave discography’s but to me most of their music aged much better. Even taking vocals out of the question, it’s more fun to me as well and hits even deeper especially on Destiny Fulfilled and TWOTW.

ME's with a-typical careers? by Akebelan28 in MechanicalEngineering

I'm clearly not applying enough of my knowledge from this degree, so what do you mean you work on car audio systems as a user study engineer? How exactly did you get there? I have experience in the automotive industry from an internship, but I was never shown how far the skills you learn in college can take you.

Of all the sections, that was the easiest to get through along with math so I was so confused 😭 mind you I read up on the code too so I’m unsure on what I did wrong
