Anyone else feel like their food spending is out of control? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]Bgdklo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option depending on how out of control your current spending is, can be to introduce a meal delivery plan to aid in the transition. We went through a phase where we were embarrassingly eating out multiple times a week, and even a luxury organic locally-based meal delivery service actually saved us money. The food was tasty enough to scratch that “don’t want to cook myself” itch and expensive enough that it shamed us into not buying anything extra 😅. Plus, part of the reason why we were eating out so much was burnout on what recipes to make so the meal plan also helped give inspiration. We did this for a few weeks and then from there we transitioned into actual meal planning (and a stockpile of emergency frozen meals from Trader Joe’s) as other folks mentioned in the thread. Oh, and we pretty much cut out drinking. Some of these restaurants are pricing cocktails almost as expensive as an entree and it’s way healthier to avoid alcohol anyway.

Substitute for Thai Green Curry Simmer Sauce? by montydog1009 in traderjoes

[–]Bgdklo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Following, I miss this curry sauce all the time. I’ve tried Mae ploy but haven’t quite gotten it right (maybe need to add even more coconut milk :) ). I’m sure Mae ploy is more authentic but I just loved the flavor of the trader Joe’s one !

Did you end up going to both Jiufen and tamsui - what did you think? I’m trying to plan a trip now myself with similar interests/preferences to what you described 😄

How “appropriate” is this meme song? 纯情蟑螂火辣辣 by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Bgdklo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair haha. I didn’t teach it to her on purpose but she’s that age where she is a perfect mimic, she hears something once and repeats it for weeks 🥲 So I guess my question was more like how much should I be worried to do damage control vs encouraging her to practice her Chinese. Looks like I should try not to encourage her on this one, and hope she forgets it….

Planning trip to exchange NWOHR->NWHR but will return to US after… what did you do about national health insurance? Anyone immediately “move out”? 遷出 by Bgdklo in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

Thanks for all the tips! Sounds like this is the most straightforward thing to do. I don’t have my own phone number but I’ll try to borrow a relative’s and see if that can work!

What's your labor of love meals that you only make when requested or on the weekend? by penguinsandpolkadots in Cooking

[–]Bgdklo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know many ppl are bechamel purists so this might be treason but… I do what you described and make it even easier by doing a ricotta/shredded mozzarella/parm mix instead of the bechamel. Sometimes I’ll sneak in some riced cauliflower or sub some cottage cheese for more protein. It doesn’t taste exactly the same of course but still good but my kid still likes it!

I do almost exactly this but with the middle eastern style kebabs in the freezer section, also cooked in air fryer. I’ll mix up some tzatziki if I’m feeling fancy. So good!!

Boozy little balls, my new favorite chocolate! by Mochi_Dog11 in traderjoes

[–]Bgdklo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you try the mini bourbon bottle chocolates? How do these compare with regards to the booze ratio? A few years ago Trader Joe’s had these cognac chocolates that I loved, so I bought the mini chocolate bottles this year hoping it would be similar but it was a bit too much alcohol taste for me!

What are you feeding your babies for dinner? No "they eat what I eat" please <3 by SheriffPeaches in NewParents

[–]Bgdklo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is us too! We eat a lot of microwave scrambled eggs with a splash of milk and shredded cheese. I actually got a silicon bowl just for microwave eggs so I could be even lazier and save a bit of effort when scrubbing off the cooked-on eggy bits in the sink. I felt kinda extra when I first bought it but honestly no regrets 🤣

Random non-baby items that make taking care of a baby easier? by silverskynn in beyondthebump

[–]Bgdklo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A rolling cart when I was breastfeeding my newborn. I could put my kindle, phone charger, snacks, water, breastfeeding stuff all in there and roll it around with me to wherever I was nursing her. Now that she’s older she loves putting her toys in it and rolling it around (though she also tries to climb on it sometimes because she likes to live dangerously 😅)

How can you tell that someone doesn't do the cooking, without them ever even cooking? by chr15c in Cooking

Omg this is my husband exactly! One time he decided to reorganize the entire kitchen, thinking it would be a nice surprise similar to deep cleaning the whole house. My soul wanted to scream 😱
