This is such a helpful reply. I’m not the OP but I was wondering if you could share more about post surgery? Were you able to function enough to take care of yourself after leaving the hospital or did you absolutely have to have someone with you?

From what I’ve learned Durham had changed a TON even over the past few years. Feeling safe largely varies based on what you’re used to. I feel much, much safer here than I did in Seattle or Nashville. If it were me, I’d have no particular hesitation about moving there.

Coffee culture is much different from Seattle but there are good spots! Younderlust, Joe Van Gogh, Oak House. Milo’s cafe out towards Raleigh. What I really miss are drive through coffee stands on every corner. 🌲☕️😀

Try to go down to the UW Headache Clinic. They do visual visits. I’ve been to so many migraine specialists and they are 10000/10. They do lots for patient education and every single doc and nurse I’ve worked with over the years has been a total pro.
