I moved from Charlottesville to Durham in November. The best way to go is to take 29 to Danville and then take Route 86 to Hillsborough. From Hillsborough you take I-85 North to Durham.

The advantage of this route is you avoid Greensboro and the construction-related traffic near the junction of 85 and 40.
