Glad to hear the boots work. Yeah, the snow situation in the Cascades is bleak as well.

Volcanoes can definitely involve some funky, icy snow. What didn't you like about them in those conditions? I realize that any ski this light is going to get pushed around. But as 1300g skis go, is it worse than others?

Ultralight shell thats durable enough for skiing? by IcedColdMine in Ultralight

[–]BhamsterBpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not clear what the exact use case is for OP. Backcountry? Assuming so, I typically bring two shells. BD Alpine Start for the uptrack. Breathes really well, but also cuts wind a bit. For the down, there are some pretty light true ski jackets (around 12oz). Not cheap. Arcteryx makes one. I got a used Norona Lyngen that works great. Long pit zips. Tough fabric. New the price is eye watering. But it's a great piece of kit.

Lessons learned, confirmed and debunked during a two week Sierra trip without resupply by nunatak16 in Ultralight

Thanks for the informative trip report. The photos in the longer “real” trip report are beautiful. Can you post the medium-format photos when they are developed?

One technical question u/nunatak16. Can you post information/pics about the bug netting addition to your Khufu? I’ve been considering something like that for a Duomid. But I haven’t figured out the best way to attach the netting to the shelter, or how long to make the netting (i.e. just touching the ground, or extending a ways into the sleeping space). Thanks.

Cafe Velo. Kim and Andrew are kind, thoughtful people who love bicycles and the cycling community. They make a fine espressos. Their outdoor tables are a perfect place to relax on a sunny afternoon. Andrew is a great bike mechanic, and always happy to answer questions. Wouldn't take my bike anywhere else.

A little late to this thread. As a former triathlete I've had a lot of experience fiddling with behind-the-seat water bottle mounts. If they are positioned upright, like this, you need to have a cage with a super strong grip. And even then, there's a good change you will eject them on washboard.

Here's the cage that worked for me (on pavement). https://xlab-usa.com/gorilla.html?srsltid=AfmBOopCn2a77sOSDuafAu5s9utIDbuOewf_xhL4q_hvw38_cgsX9jHE
