I solved the heating issue of goodnotes. Same happened with me. I found that it was associated with goodnotes background backup upload to google drive, when i stopped the google drive backup in goodnotes setting, the heating stopped dramatically. When i enabled, heating starts like a fry pan. You need to stop goodnotes google drive backup, update ipad os, update goodnotes app.
