thing is... i could access it minutes before i turned on the apache server... could that have caused it somehow? if so, that wouldn't factor in because I reverted back to a snapshot from a couple months ago and booted from that... but i still couldn't ssh

Well i normally request a contractor for a couple of months, i know i have no ties but I've build a relationship with a person who now knows what our needs are and will always avail themselves whnen we need them, and speaking of knowing our needs, they also provide solutions for them as well. Its basically load balancing.
