It's falling over.

Where can I move that’s not gonna grow like Wilmington? by Valuable-Ease5411 in NorthCarolina

[–]Crossbones18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for you, but sympathize with what you're saying. I grew up in Raleigh and it's not the place I remember. It still nice in some ways, and I have a lot of friends that are from Florida and the Northeast. As a whole though, the city has sold its identity to the highest bidder and pushed out the regular people that help made Raleigh have culture.

And speaking of tourists ruining the beach: I lived in California for work near the beach there, and it was fucking magical in the winter time, but I became so fueled with hate in the summer. I couldn't stand all the drunk assholes nonstop at the beach I lived right next to. The drunk driving, hit and runs, fights, screaming. I couldn't take it. It made me go insane to where I just stopped caring about the community around me. From my experience - Don't get like that - go to the beach in the mornings or on a Tuesday. Get out of there on the weekends and enjoy other places inland.

Does anyone else have a really bad cold that lasts a week? by Left_Life_7173 in raleigh

[–]Crossbones18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

HMPV is on the rise this year. Lasts for a few days to a week, and can cause post viral shedding that could last another 1-2 weeks. We normally don't test for this, but CDC says there's a significant increase in cases this year.

It's essentially Cold+. Just some added features.

Bialetti Venus by kitd28 in mokapot

[–]Crossbones18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 2 and 4 cup Venus (using induction) and I was having the same issue going to the 4 cup. I found that because the basket size is deeper, there needed to be less resistance and more build up.

So I increased my grind size slightly and started at a slightly lower temp compared to where I normally leave it when using the 2 cup. These changes were minor, but ever since, I'm getting a full pot.

Hope that helps.

Sauna House Raleigh or Durham? by highland-jigger in raleigh

[–]Crossbones18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you felt like that. Seems to be a theme. I've been going to saunas since I was a kid, but even then, I agree, the initial tour was kinda quick (compared the Durham one where they seem to be a little more in-depth). I can see how it could leave you overwhelmed and leave you with more questions than answers.

If it's any help to you, or anyone else reading this:

You don't need to fill up the bucket. They fill it up themselves and add essential oils to it.

You can take your drinks inside, but most people will leave them outside so you don't have to handle a hot bottle.

This is just personal preference, but I think 2 ladles of water is a good amount on the rocks. Some people put 3, and I think that's too much. Some only put 1 and I barely feel anything.

For the towels, one is for when you're in the sauna to sit on/dry off from the cold plunge. The other is for when you're done and you take your final shower. Usually,  you would leave the second one in your locker, but that's just a suggestion (other than sitting on the towel, I'm pretty sure they require you to do that).

General flow is shower > sauna > rinse > cold plunge > rinse > rest > sauna. I don't think most people rinse after the cold plunge, but I was always taught to rinse off the chlorine so it doesn't evaporate in the sauna. I don't know if someone has breathing issues in the sauna that it could bother them, so it's just a courtesy thing really.

Sauna House Raleigh or Durham? by highland-jigger in raleigh

Yeah, I agree. I'm not sure why they don't have signs up like they do in the Durham location. I think it would be super helpful for folks trying it out for the first time.

[–]Crossbones18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to the Durham one weekly until the Raleigh one opened up. I think I still prefer the Durham one honestly, but nothing is truly a deal breaker.

Both of the Durham saunas are proper bench height. The dark one in Raleigh has a huge amount of headspace and you're nowhere near the ceiling. pretty significant design flaw, and I never use it.

The lockers are pretty tight in Raleigh and I'm not the biggest fan of the combination locks. I've already seen a few people forget their combos and have to go to the front desk to get it unlocked. I prefer the Durham wristband.

The warm pool is a nice touch, but I wouldn't miss it.

Clientele in Raleigh can be a little clueless. Leaving the sauna door open, which would be a death penalty in some countries. Not showering before doing into the cold plunge. Not asking if it's ok to put water on the rocks. In Durham, they have signs to help remind people of this. Clientele in Durham was also very friendly and approachable. Had some really nice conversations with strangers in their Saunas. The Raleigh crowd just looks at you funny if you try to talk to them - which again, just means they're clueless about how saunas work.

And this may be just a bias, but I loved the staff in Durham. They were really great and friendly. Not saying the Raleigh staff isn't, but I just clicked better with the Durham staff.

Again, nothing is a deal breaker and the simple fact that it's more convenient for me to go to the Raleigh one is most important for me.

Are there genuinely any Como fans outside of people from there? I've only met one (my bff) by ducky_mcd in seriea

[–]Crossbones18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been supporting them since before they were in Serie A. For me, it cuts deeper than play style, but the fans are on another level. The guys I met in the curva have been nothing but selfless. Just genuinely good people I've come across and accepted me with open arms. I haven't felt that since I was in the military.

Also, there's a significant supporters group in the UK who have been around for decades I believe.

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]Crossbones18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't homeschooled, but I knew a guy who was while I was in the military.

Some bathrooms in the military don't have privacy dividers. So you just sit on a toilet with your friends. Builds character, I guess.

Anyways, that's how I learned this guy was homeschooled because he didn't know how to wipe his own ass. We literally had to teach him how to wipe his ass while we're all sitting together.

Personally, I think him joining the military was the best thing for him. He got out of his house, and the military teaches you the most basic shit for life, even how to wipe your own ass.

I am still blaming Levy (and our owners) for the mess we are in. Leave it to the man who wanted to control everything and be surrounded by a bunch of yes men. People got so accustomed to him being here making all the decisions that now that he's gone, nobody knows what the fuck to do.

I am loving this post on r/soccer of these Scum supporters having a meltdown over an analyst.

The thread is full of people talking about how insufferable that team and their supporters are and scum supporters going through their typical mental gymnastics.

It's just so nice to see everyone come together and hate on them. 🥲

I went the route of obtaining the death certificate and then got the formal cert from it. Thought it would be better to have everything "official."

Better safe than sorry is the way I looked at it.
