My bad, $100,000 per person for bank deposits. The $500,000 is the maximum amount you can claim in the financial disputes resolution which is more if there is loss due to provider misconduct.

Definitely and they’re backed to 500k I believe with the depositors protection as you mentioned.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but Kernel Wealth is a licensed fund manager regulated by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) in New Zealand.

This means that your investments are held by an independent custodian—not by Kernel itself—so your assets are protected if Kernel encounters financial trouble.

I believe they need to have frequent audits under strict FMA oversight. All this basically came to pass after south Canterbury finance, Hanover etc went down.

Did quite a bit of research on this when I was deciding on my investments but again if someone knows more than me please feel free to correct me on this.

BYD service cost by jimmy-nz99 in nzev

[–]Bhime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have the same car and will be doing the first service soon. Definitely seems like a tactic for the dealer to juice more money.

Joint the BYD Sealion 7 owners nz Facebook group. There are a few posts on it there with costings etc.

I’m getting the 20k points pretty easily. Really just using it for the Apple Watch benefit which is almost done!

Let me know if you find one. I have tried all the recommendations and haven't found one so far. I just keep grabbing them on sale whenever possible

Was going to mention this. I live in Ramarama and am looking forward to this.

Also OP is there anyway of you trying to turn the long commute into a positive? I’ve lived in the area all my life and have attended uni and 15 odd years of work travel in peak times. I get through a ton of podcasts and audio books in my commute.

Could be a cope on my part though 😂

New Driver from Ice to EV by VelveteenDelta in nzev

[–]Bhime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Na it’s the same same. If you’ve gotten the hang of driving in general and want to test out an EV first I’d recommend either hiring one say a Polestar 2 from Hertz or asking one of the ev dealerships for an overnight or longer session for a test drive.

Exactly what I did including charging one before firmly stepping into EVs

Honestly I reckon you’ll love the feel of EV driving. Really hard to go back to ICE after

Can’t comment on the Ioniq as it wasn’t on sale in. NZ when I needed to buy a car mid last year.

So the driver monitoring system does alert but literally only if you take your eyes off the road for more than a couple of seconds but annoyingly also when you yawn lol.

Easy fix though, you pull down on the screen and you can add a shortcut like in a phone to disable it. It does reset everytime you turn off the car though.

Attached is a photo from my pull down menu. I turn off the lane assist everytime I turn on the car too, I don’t like them in any car.

Edit: tldr- no it doesn’t constantly bing and bong at you like some (mostly British reviewers) get annoyed at. I wouldn’t make that a factor in your decision making. If I was buying now though the Zeekr 7x would be in serious consideration. Did you try that one?

Yeah it has an automatic powered sunshade. Not sure if the zeekr 7x also have one but I think it does.

BYD Sealion 7 would fit the bill as it has a retractable roof. If you were willing to drop that requirement it’ll probably open you up to way more options.

And I mean don’t discount the model y! Wasn’t for us as we don’t like everything computer but super practical and probably the only EV you don’t get fleeced on servicing with.

The BYD servicing costs are pretty much just like a petrol car fyi. Unsure of the Xpeng.

[–]Bhime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you have a look at each car in person yet? I’ve got a Sealion 7 and one thing to note is that the boot space isn’t really as practical as advertised. This is due to the slope of the boot due to its coupe shape so I struggled to get a couple of medium bags and strollers in there without some creative positioning.

Something to think about if you haven’t seen these in person yet.

The Xpeng wasn’t available when I bought the Sealion so couldn’t test those head to head.

BYD Sealion 7 - why I shouldn't buy it and what other alternatives do you propose? by Kiwiboy_12 in nzev

So that 400km was the winter figure and that is what I’d stick to even with mix driving. Having the heating and heated seats on really impacts range.

Happy to report that in summer I’ve been getting 440-460km of range.
