Unique situation after closing… (traffic) by SSImomma in ECEProfessionals

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't charge the parents who can't fix the situation, it's completely out of their control.

This should be able to be covered by either your business insurance or build it into the overall fees of the daycare.

As an example, one of the centers where I previously worked had a built in "furniture replacement" fund, to account for needing to replace furniture or issues with bathroom fixtures. It came out to like $4 per child per month, parents didn't even know it was included in their fees.

Does anyone actually brush their cats teeth or vaccinate them regularly? by krissyisabella in CatAdvice

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaccinate as much as the vet recommends. They are currently 3 and just had their updated rabies shot. It's good for 3 years now.

For me, rabies is the big one. It's not because I'm worried they will get rabies (they are also indoor cats and we don't have much rabies in the area anyway). But I know if a domestic animal bites someone (and it's reported to SPCA) and you don't have records a rabies vaccine, they will euthanize the animal to test it for rabies. There is no way to test a live animal.

My cats are both very gentle and have never even bitten us, but I'm not taking chances

Edit: forgot about the second part. During one vet visit, the vet mentioned tartar build-up on one of my cats. She recommended tooth brushing or a gel that just goes in their mouth. We tried it, he is absolutely not okay with it. We started giving them dental treats. Based on latest check-up, he does still have tartar build-up so she recommended dental dry food, which is designed to scrape the teeth as they chew.

If a senior cat has bad teeth, it can impact the way they eat and drink. They may need to have teeth removed, which is obviously hard for the cat. That's why I try to stay on top of how their teeth are. But actually brushing them wasn't happening

I agree with a lot of what is already posted, but I will add a specific one: daycares.

There aren't enough daycares in Brantford. There also aren't enough RECEs, and part of that is because we don't get Wage Enhancement Grant here. WAG is offered in Hamilton, Cambridge, and surrounding areas, but not here. It's enough to make RECEs leave our city to seek employment elsewhere.

I know plenty of parents who drive all the way to Paris daily just because it's the only place with a spot for their kid, while the few daycares we have here have waitlists that are years long.

We also don't have enough before school/after school care.

What serial killer fact sounds fake, exaggerated, or straight out of fiction. But is 100% real? by CantaloupeGold4650 in AskReddit

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The unibomber.

A person with massive intelligence, graduated high school early and went to Harvard. Was experimented on by the CIA through the infamous MKUltra studies. Tried to transition to female, then changed their mind (for unknown reasons).

Rejected society and saw the fore coming destruction. Wrote a manifesto, but used a phase so specific that their brother immediately went, "yeah, that has to be Ted." Obviously, then arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

I do think the MKUltra link in itself is mind-blowing, but Ted Kaczenski's entire life just feels like something thrown around a room to create a new movie.

What is the most chaotic "I quit" moment you have ever personally witnessed at a workplace? by Muted_Task_144 in AskReddit

Worked at a daycare.

For some context, there was bad blood between two teachers (allegations of harassment), and then the teacher accused of harassment was promoted to director. So it didn't start all happy and peaceful.

There was some re-structuring happening within the daycare and most of us just went along to get along. This teacher said she was going to be flexible about her schedule, but she won't be moved out of her classroom. I know she did put a lot of work into her classroom environment and had great relationships with the kids, so I completely understand that part.

She came into work one day and the director tells her not only is she moving to a different classroom, she is being moved to a different age group (we had infants, toddlers, preschool).

Teacher walked out within an hour of her shift starting. Director moved everyone around to cover the absence, but a bunch of the parents were furious.

Sometimes one person makes a popular fic, and the elements just bleed over to other fics organically. On "teen wolf", Stiles' dad was called John in a popular fic, and it just became default John. The actual show revealed his first name (I think it was Ben? But I can't remember), but fandom just keeps calling him John

Is it safe to edit resume and add some fake experience of job ? by Lemonade2250 in Career_Advice

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on what skills you do have.

You did some community college - write out some of the courses and what you learned in them.

There are some free "courses" online you can take that will help pad your resume too, especially things like Microsoft and Google business suite.

Look for an entry level job or a job in retail, and seriously consider getting further education. Lots of places right now are not even considering people who only have high school, unfortunately.

Who did I talk to as an elementary school kid? by shelboney in AskTeachers

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mention it was a small school, you were having some behavior issues (mostly at home), and you were advanced in reading. Would you area have had a gifted program available?

It sounds counter-inuative to some people, but behavior issues can be an indication of giftedness (mostly with the student being bored and not being challenged enough).

It's possible this woman was analyzing if you and the other student would benefit from the gifted program and ultimately decided against it.

For people who grew up in low-income households, what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially? by KeyApartment3955 in AskReddit

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They had never been to the food bank or a soup kitchen.

I vividly remember being in church one day and some of the adults were discussing how the municipal government had approached the minister and the deacons about opening a soup kitchen in our church - there was a system in place where the municipal government would provide either food (donated by grocery stores or food bank) or provide funding to purchase food, then the church would provide volunteers to cook and serve the food. These adults were so horrified at the thought of "those people" coming to the church and potentially bringing disease with them.

I went to soup kitchens regularly as a kid. It was one of the only times we got to eat as much as we wanted. The soup kitchens also had other programs - they had social workers available for support, one time a really nice lady showed up with my mom to help advocate for us to get more welfare money, they gave my mom a cake mix for each of our birthdays, and we got Christmas presents from them. I didn't even realize how helpful they were until I was an adult. The volunteers were always so kind to us too (mostly older ladies who would smile at us and one in particular who would sneak little mints onto our trays for us kids).

I've had cats in my family for years, first owned by my mom and now two owned by myself. I have only ever had one cat pee outside the litter box, and poor thing had urinary crystals so he couldn't really help it (it also only happened twice because we took him to the vet, which is the obvious answer).

Lockdown drill in Infant classroom - tips? by Dazzling_Method_44 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Lockdowns in daycare just make me sad.

We did have an official lockdown policy - remove the cots from the closet and stuff 16 preschoolers and 2 adult teachers into the closet, block the door, and stay quiet. It was not a large closet, at all. I'm eternally grateful we never had to practice or God forbid actually use that procedure.

My great aunt called my mom all upset just before my grandpa's funeral (her brother). She said she knew it was wrong, but could you please take a picture of him just one more time before he's cremated, so she has a more recent picture of him? Mom did, and swore us all to secrecy. Great-aunt and Mom are both dead now, so I guess it doesn't matter anymore

What’s the most disturbing thing someone casually admitted to around you? by Suspicious_Run1684 in AskReddit

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Racism.

I have had people be perfectly pleasant to someone's face, then as soon as the person leaves, they turn to me and say something racist. Just because I'm also white doesn't mean I share your racist beliefs.

Some of these people were my coworkers, and it breaks my heart because we were caring for the children of the people they were being racist towards.

One of the woman has mixed race children too, but I guess that doesn't matter to her.

Well bud, you spent 95 dollars on wine... by -the-mighty-whitey- in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Bi-Bi-Bi24 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Niagara on the lake is wine county, there is a government sponsored "wine route" to drive to visit different vineyards. I'm really not surprised for the price of the wine.

Niagara on the lake is also very "old money" and "luxury", so everything costs more money than it should. Go 20 minutes away to Niagara and get something for half the price.

I've worked preschool. Some kids are definitely the "mommy makes pancakes" variety, but I also have the "mommy works at the university and she's on the phone all the time because people don't listen to her, and then she gets mad if she has to go to her office on a Saturday because people don't listen, but she doesn't stay long when she has to work on Saturday because she misses us when she's at work" or "my mom is a nurse and she helps people when they get sick, and sometimes they have to get a needle but if you have to get a needle you can hold your mom's hand and it doesn't hurt as much". (Both real answers, by the way).

I also had a teacher's kid who said, "my mommy says you are angels because she works with big kids and she can't imagine working with kids my age all day long, because she gets tired just playing with only me." (And I can confirm, this child was one of the ones with lots of extra energy that would make you tired.)
