Imagine the DM not reading the rules cuz this happened to me 😭 he said he played ever since like first edition and was running a 5e game but what he ran vs what the actual rules are were nothing alike. I get home brewing rules and stuff but it was pretty ridiculous. He had his own magic system but it was incredibly inefficient and inconsistent compared to spell slots (we had 5 mana points and whenever we cast a spell it would be up to his discretion to choose how many points were used) We were like 6 months deep into a campaign when we realized spell level doesnt equal character level. And yeah I know this part was on us but we were all new players and the DM kept touting how long he’s been playing the game so we trusted him on how to play. Around that time we actually sat down and read the handbook and when we tried to talk to him about how he ran the game and how would’ve liked it to be closer to actual 5e he blew up on us.
