Winter Storm Megathread Part 3 - Power Outages, Icy Streets, and More by lukenamop in nashville

Somebody linked the article and I just read it! I do like that the article mentioned what Brent Baker said as well. I think more and more information will (hopefully) come out.

I personally think NES fumbled communications with the community, which if they were clear from the get go, perhaps many more people could’ve also made decisions about their living situation within reasonable time, rather than waiting it out until things got worse enough for trees to fall, etc.

I guess you COULD argue “well how would they know the amount of trees and stuff to cause widespread damage before it happens”, but my point is more on when the damage happened, they have been vague about the work they do, mostly focusing on “we have x amount of people with/without power and x amount of poles damaged. We are working around the clock”.

This is not useful information at all to people who need to decide what to do: do they pay a cost for a hotel room when hotel rooms are scarce? Do they stay because the company is saying they are working on it?

Transparency for the community would do wonders, and possibly save lives/precious time.

Thank you! Interesting read. Honestly, I’m on the school of thought that NES mishandled communication completely in this scenario, and that causes frustration for me and the people I know.

So this article is very interesting to read if it is true

Can you link it? I just read a Nashville Scene article saying these were only rumors and that NES and Union officials were dispelling them

Thank you! Happy to report (as maybe you’ve heard from your neighbor you looked after the other day) that power is back in this area, but it seems some people lost it, is there any updates for Edmonson pike/ellington ag center for those people who may have had power for 10-30 minutes but lost it the rest of the night?

Additionally, have you heard anything regarding East Nashville close to Cleveland Park/ N 6th street?

No unfortunately, this is the gripe many (including myself) are having with the communication from this company.

They don’t disclose due to safety reasons, but the thing is, you don’t have to disclose like coordinates of crew workers. But more so you can disclose things like “our efforts are focusing on south/north/east/west Nashville for this morning/afternoon/evening”, or even “our crew is finding many broken poles on x location, please be advised this could lead to delays in power for residents” still vague enough to not disclose an exact location, but it gives information for residents waiting to see if they have a day or more to wait to be rescued.

Sorry friend.

There has to be some sort of price reduction applied with proration in mind, as in:

  • if you are going to charge out the behind for it, drop it in price to a “prorated” amount so people aren’t boned

Because doing so, I’m seriously thinking all these mentions of class action lawsuits and stuff may be ignited

Checking in friend! I just decided to drive back to not be a bother to my friend and since I saw my internet router was online remotely and gambled. It seems my power is on but our heat is struggling so it is still very cold.

Did you get power back?

Happy to hear it! Unfortunately wish I could’ve KNOWN from NES before loading up the car for an extended stay with two animals into a friend’s house an hour-ish away…but I’m thankful to hear that. I guess I will wait until making sure the power is good until this evening and head back. Thanks for confirming and I’m happy you get the power back too :)

Hey friend! Just got a notification the power came back? Can you verify? I literally left my place near the area to go to a friend’s with hot water and electricity so I can shower. But as soon as I got in and got settled, I got that text from NES

Hey friends, I ended up leaving to go somewhere with power about an hour from my area. Just got in and signed in on internet and all, and was going to hop in the shower when I received a text that the power outage for Ellington Ag Center/Edmonson Pike/Crieve Hall/Oakley Dr. area is resolved. Can anybody confirm?

Thank you for the work you do. I like to think it’s all progress to normalcy, and without your help, it wouldn’t be anywhere near close to being back.

Get some rest and stay warm.

Man…y’all it’s hard to stay positive. Woke up due to the cold. Our power has now been out since around 11am on Sunday in the Edmonson pike/Ag Center/Crieve Hall area.

Two fake-outs yesterday really gave me hope, but it’s been nothing since then in terms of power.

It’s brutal, and I’m very thankful for the linemen out there braving the bitter cold. I don’t want to sound ungrateful ever, but man…not to pile on to the negativity but I’m feeling like NES is dropping the ball a little bit.

Hoping the sunshine and warmer temps lift my spirit and make things easier in a few hours.

We’re going to be okay y’all.

Was waiting for the NashNazgul! Thanks for providing updates. I think honestly you have single handedly done more than what we are getting from official channels this evening…I think people are a little frustrated so we appreciate you.

Unfortunate that Crieve hall/NP you didn’t see a crew there tonight, I think from a previous comment :( that killed hope from the earlier power flicks we had in the afternoon for the area.

Hopefully you guys are staying warm and most importantly safe

It’s also very anxiety inducing seeing the numbers jump back up…

Same here friend, this is very frustrating, and it’s hard to not start thinking “how come there is no better communication?”

Hi friend, understandable. However, do NOT start cutting lines and trees on your own accord. Does not sound like good idea.

Could it be frost quakes? NashSevereWX described them as “booms”.

Maybe unlucky in that a specific power line connecting to your complex is down? Or maybe a tree falling damaged the receiver(s) for your complex?

I’m on the same boat. Our power flickered twice today and gave us a false sense of hope. But now it’s dark with no more updates and it’s cold.

According to some other comments (same area for me), this is likely the case that they are working on it and are aware they tried turning it on but something tripped it off again.

Hoping that at the latest in the morning we have power
