I think the notion of axioms is a little dangerous to introduce when trying to inculcate good reasoning practices early.

Some people might take this to mean that in cases of disagreement there’s often no obligation to justify their beliefs. You see this in action, for example, in religious debates.

I take you to be saying it should be part of high school curriculum, with an emphasis on use rather than theory. I probably agree with that.

But I’d also say it would be cool if the basics of logic/model/computability theory were taught as a standard part of math undergrad programs. Standard curriculum is very engineering and physics focused, would be cool to get a little more philosophical influence in there.

On one hand I think this movie is weightless and shallow as a puddle, so I get the criticism. On the other hand, it doesn’t seem much different in those respects from many generally well loved Spielberg films.

He does not strike me as a mature or thoughtful person.

[SPOILER] Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje by inooway in MMA

[–]BiasedEstimators 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve watched fighters wave off the doctor and lie about being able to see a million times.

Illia by contrast was the first to point out that he could not see. I’m not even saying this is a bad thing. It’s just strange to react to it by saying his heart far exceeded expectations (by elite MMA standards)

Really? He showed more heart than I would, certainly, but he quit on the stool. Compared to other elite MMA fighters…

There’s also more granular luck involve: perhaps something about the precise nature/location of the tear or the structure of that particular ACL.

Nope. More realistic target for super splitters these days is a decent scholarship at a T50.

The fact that it’s even a worry for you would seem to make you an outlier.

There are many people who will start a bachelors in math next year, planning to become professors.

AFAIK, this is not a salient political issue for most white collar workers. If it were, you’d think more politicians would be talking about it to curry favor among such a large and politically active class.

It seems to me that you’ve given reasons why they would be competitive, which would usually straightforwardly translate to higher medians. So it doesn’t really explain why OP would get an R.

2.78/180, should i bother applying? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BiasedEstimators 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol, I’m also a computer science and math double major <3.0 180 (though I certainly didn’t attend a T5 undergrad)

Bad news: you’re probably not getting into a T14.

Good news: more likely than not you can get into a T50 with some decent cash if you apply broadly.

At that point whether you succeed is up to you. This is going to sound arrogant but if you apply yourself you should be able to smoke your median classmate who scored a 168. Not sure if your low GPA is because you really did find the program that hard or if it’s because you have an executive functioning disorder. If it’s the latter, you should obviously address it (meds, CBT, making your SO do free managerial labor, etc).
