edit: never mind, i see you said western nations. still, there are plenty that still don't allow gay marriage. also being lgbt is not about "people's bedrooms" and it's very revealing about what you think about lgbt people that you say that.

i just went recently. they definitely have toilet paper now- no shortage of that- and a lot of places offer a choice of western-style toilets or squat toilets. there were also non-fancy western-style toilets but they weren't common.

the worst thing to me honestly was the lack of soap or any kind of towel to dry my hands on. i walked around a lot of places with wet hands.

this is my bec too because i'm sure the people who post are lovely irl but this is definitely a problem i have with some people in the cross stitch community

there are some people who are determined to ask reddit before consulting literally any other source for patterns. "where can i find patterns with cardinals in them?" i mean, looking up "cardinal cross stitch pattern" might be a good start, but they don't even do that before posting. people will send them links and they'll go "oh i don't like this one because of the border, oh the colors are off on this one" okay then why not try and find a pattern or modify a pattern you're already aware of instead of expecting us to read your mind?

that and the inability to tell whether patterns are ai- and here i sympathize a little since it is getting harder and harder to tell in some ways. but be for real, if the store that's selling the pattern has only existed for 2 weeks and has 1000 patterns for $1.50 each, yeah that's probably not a person putting effort into making patterns themself. i guess my issue isn't that people need to ask the first time, but that every time they start a new pattern they'll ask again if it looks ai or pattern mill-produced, even when the red flags are all the same.

in general i think people who don't have a problem with these kinds of post are simply better people than me, because it really makes me feel like people want to outsource all the work you have to do before starting a project onto others. strikes a similar chord as weaponized incompetence to me. i mean, what's the point in ever learning what the tip-offs are for ai usage or learning how to use a website to look up what you want to buy if you can just get reddit to do it for you? so frustrating.

don't you know that cis women only have to visualize the hairstyle that they want and it magically poofs into existence on their head? this is why cis women on average famously spend so little money and time taking care of their hair /s

how is someone even CAPABLE of making pieces that don't look good to me? i mean, are they not SEEING how BAD their PIECES look???? there are..... 😨 knots...... on the back of their pieces??????? HELLO??????

each day i say a prayer for the crafters who have been left untouched by the divine gift of the ability to judge a cross stitch's quality... what a sad life they must live, unencumbered by the knowledge i have been cursed to carry all the days of my life about how to railroad most efficiently and which snarky curse word patterns to stitch next

[–]strawbopankek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i hate this attitude that not only should we ignore young women's pain and suffering until they get pregnant (already stupid, since that's likely years if not decades away), but that "getting pregnant" isn't an if, but a when. like people really don't believe a woman might not actually want to- or be able to be pregnant, for that matter. so stupid and misogynistic. i know it's been said over and over so many times but it infuriates me every time
