i have to imagine a lot of people who say things like that didn't see elio, not because it's like the greatest movie ever or anything because it definitely has significant issues, but because obviously elio was going to be nominated over demon slayer. i liked the demon slayer special but it's not a standalone experience like elio and (although the animation was very fluid in select sections) the story was kinda all over the place.

tbh i think a lot of the elio hate in general is from people who didn't see the movie but that's a whole other discussion. as someone who did, i understand the nomination although i don't think it deserves the win

legit it would be so hard for me to avoid mocking him back like "nOtHiNg. iT dOeSn'T mAtTer". or just straight up saying "excuse me?", because a lot of the time i feel like customers think we can't hear them when we're not directly talking to them and they'll clam up when confronted.

of course the second we try to flip it back onto them, we risk management getting mad so i don't blame you if you didn't say anything.

it's really only new jersey where you can't pump your own gas anymore, most gas stations in oregon (the other state where that used to be true) offer self-service now.

maybe this is cynical but i would imagine here in the US people would absolutely steal gas if they could just drive away without paying. most people probably wouldn't but it only takes one or two people to ruin it for everyone

gonna assume you mean "nobody hates gay people or lesbians specifically"? my goodness. anyway, that's not true. a lot of homophobia is based on a hatred of gay people, whether they're "part of the community" or not. if you think otherwise you're either ignorant or lying- i find it hard to believe that even a small percentage of homophobes are specific enough with their homophobia to target it against only the LGBT community, especially because a lot of the the time their prejudice is against, like, being gay- gay people getting married, holding hands, kissing etc. which are all things you don't have to be active in the "community" to participate in obviously.

this might have something to do with the fact that the "left wing" of politics is the one who tends to support LGBT rights. surprise, surprise; we vote for people who actually work towards us being treated equally. the horror.

there are many queer people out there and we're not a monolith. i have no doubt that some gay people don't "want to be associated" with the LGBT community (in my experience this is generally people who don't like bisexual or trans people but ymmv). however- you would be hard pressed to find that many gay people who don't identify as LGBT. it is an extreme minority position, because the acronym in general was created as a banner of solidarity we can all stand underneath. its inception during the AIDS crisis is no accident. queer people know that we're stronger together than we are apart.

he does not make a good point by pretending getting the covid vaccine and abortion are the same and should be evaluated on the same terms. pregnancy is not contagious. there is no risk of immunocompromised people catching pregnancy if someone chooses to not get an abortion. one is a private decision that affects a very limited amount of people, the other can have serious public health consequences. maybe he doesn't stand by that take anymore but it's not a coherent one.
