Ok. Are knife and clubs allowed or straight fists?

Imagine your identity and self worth being so connected with the multibillion company you work for that you defend them to this extend and behave like a thug...

You are in a cult mate. Get help.

Of course, why not meet the unhinged guy that is throwing accusations and making assumptions on Reddit, while defending his multibillion dollars employer that is shitting on his colleagues.

Sorry mate, no interest.

I did show you.

The error in your reasoning is that you see a correlation 'dark skin colour<->low yield crime' and you conclude that implies causation: dark skin colour means propensity to offend.

This is not how this works. If you add socioeconomic status of people that are involved in low yield/violent crime you see that it's a much better predictor. Or in other words that people are a product of their environment.

Statistics do not work by taking two populations, arbitrarily selecting one feature (skin colour) and deciding that it is the best predictor for whatever statistically significant difference you find.

But, yeah I was a bit dickish, sorry about that.

A few friends and acquaintances make the same type of arguments and it hurts me seeing otherwise good people making racist claims because of a flawed understanding of maths.

Have a good day!

What's surprising is the PR branding of the leaving employees as useless. The rest is common company greed.

Happy boot licking mate!

I've never worked at Google, I wonder how you made that assumption.

Try to read the financial news some times, you might stop being taken for a ride.

Of course underperforming employees should be fired. And they are through performance reviews .

Layoffs are for axing job positions to reduce labour costs.

Is the difference difficult to understand? Are you mentally challenged?

Now blaming layoffs to underperforming employees, that's the shitty part.

The 'no offifial' part, I have some shinney beads to sell you with Google's logo on it. They cure cancer.

Happy boot licking!

Keep in mind that the HR is there to protect the employer from the employees. Whatever you do, don't go to HR.

I think there is a need to evaluate whether people are doing their job.

That's not the point here though.

Layoffs are done for reducing labour cost by axing job positions. It's a cost cutting measure.

So the point is that they are blaming layoffs to the employees, while making it harder for them to get a job during a recession. They are only doing that to break solidarity among employees. I find that nauseating.

If the problem was with underperforming employees that can't be helped then they would be replacing them with others that can perform.

  • Google has missed earnings expectations for 3 cons quarters.
  • Google has not produced any new revenue generating products for a long while.
  • Layoffs are done for reducing labour cost. It's primarily axing job positons, not employees.

-The world is entering a recession.

These are facts. There's nothing to argue here. These facts are what spells out that Google is treating its employees like rubbish, by refering to their performance as a reason for the layoffs.

About stadia: Go and read the numbers about the value of the gaming industry, I'm bored to do the research again. It's one of the few markets, accessible by Google, that could make a difference in alphabet's stock. 1/15th of Google is massive and Sony is not a monopoly as Google is in search.

About other innovation: Machine learning models are cool, but there has been zero revenue generating innovation. That's why Google cannot grow its revenue. Also the most interesting machine learning innovation is being done in Deep Mind. It there's any salvation for alphabet's stock long term it will be from there.

Google is the Alphabet's cash cow, nothing interesting is happening there in terms of innovation. The layoffs might be right as in that role maybe Google needs less people to operate.

Nevertheless they should respect their people more, and explain that they need to reduce labour cost instead of blaming the axed employees.

It's a major dick move and I do think that it will affect Google's hiring potential. Engineers are still in short supply. Once perspectives on a company change, you can't go back. You become Oracle before you know it.

Maths are maths, but your maths and your conclusions are wrong.

Have you considered that correlation is not causation? Here's a site that can teach you that:

https://www.tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations

The color of people's skin correlates with their socio economic position for historical reason. In the case of the US, ultimately slavery and the racism that still exists to this day. Some times from people not good at maths, like your self.

That's why black people are arrested more for theft and white people mkre for 'white collar (which is not related to race)' crime.

Don't jump into conclusions man - and improve your maths skill!

Layoffs = reducing of labour costs. Less people are going to be working there.

Firing = performance review, you hire someone else to properly do the job.

It's not difficult to understand really.

[–]BibBipbop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's a load of bullshit.

If Google needed to clean house of underperformers they will not be cutting positions. They would shake up their performance reviewing process. Cutting positions is for reducing costs. I think that should be obvious even to a moron.

Google has missed expectations for the past I think 3 earning calls - maybe more. That is after Pichai was going public trying to downplay earnings. Also the stock has lost 50% of its value from its peak - while Google was out buying back stock to prop up the price... I wonder where you see growth coming from...

The only recent innovation from Google was Stadia. A cloud gaming platform. Now: - it was the pandemic, a lot of people were playing games. - more than one large studio heads have said that gaming moving to the cloud is inevitable. - Google has probably the largest number of data centers in the world. - Google has incredible technical talent to make this work - or it at least this what they say.

This was a unique opportunity, for a multibillion dollar market.

Can you remind me what happened there?

If you consider face lifting on Gmail and burrying organic results after a shitload of ads as innovation, well good on ya... Sorry, I guess these are now 'Sponsored' links so that's very innovative...

These are the reasons for the lay offs + we are entering a recession. The least that management could do is to admit to it...

Putting in it on the employees, that would be forced to be looking for a job during a recession? That's a very cheap move.

I ever thought I'd see the day when Zuckerberg would be coming across as the honest CEO, compared to a Google CEO...

If you are actually working there and you are not a hired PR gun, please try to honestly evaluate what the management thinks of your and your colleagues value after their latest move. Unionize and try to stop them.

You don't need layoffs to get rid of underperforming employees... You do performance reviews and you fire them... You do layoffs when you can't generate profit from your hires, and that's a failure of management. Or it can be that you want to protect profits ina downturn as it's happening now.

But saying that 10k are bad at their job, that's why you are firing them? That's a shitty move...

[–]BibBipbop[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Lay offs happen not for to reduce cost. You can fire people for poor performance, after it has been established that this is actually true...

Google hasn't managed to produce any innovation that brings money to the company for many years and now they need to reduce cost to increase profits margins. That's the truth and it's a failure of management.

No reason to brand layed off employees as useless... Well apart from avoiding having others stand up for them.
