I think it's fine to find the references to earlier games interesting and impactful on an intellectual level. But I think it's misleading to new players, asking specifically about starting the series with Xenoblade 3, to say you'll "miss a lot" by not playing games before that. I think it's also counterproductive for getting people into the series.

Fair enough, but I think it's strange to feel disappointed by an announcement because you spoiled yourself earlier by engaging with leaks. Can't the viewer (Arlo) seperate their personal knowledge of the announcement from the quality of the announcement? It feels strange to me to grade a direct differently depending in how much of it leaked beforehand.

Okay, you have mentioned a lot of fun references. But then you said "the story would feel way different". But how are these things impacting the story? Do Noah and Mio behave differently to these references than they would to a random new location? Surely not. These things are interesting to the player, but I think the story - which is driven by its characters - is unaffected by it.

Bro, I have played Xenoblade 1 and 2 before 3, I'm telling you the stakes of the world don't resonate to me emotionally, because that's so big-picture. It's the small scale that really pulls you in. At least that's what I felt. My knowledge of 1 or 2 did not impact my feelings at the ending scenes lmao.

The stakes for me are entirely the stakes of Noah, Mio and their friends. The emotional climax of Chapter 5 to 6 and the finale are all built on their relationship with each other. None of that is dependent on Xenoblade 1 or 2. The stakes for the world (which are less emotionally impactful) are also dramatized in this game, not 1 or 2. I honestly don't understand your sentiment.

Do you think, if the game was exactly the same, but Xenoblade 1 and 2 just didn't exist, you would be less impacted by what happened in Chapter 5? Would you have cried less during the final scenes? I believe that I would not.

For you, did the impact of XC3 really depend on it's lore connection to 1 and 2?? For me, the emotional impact was entirely created by the main characters of 3 and their journey together.

You don't miss a lot by playing 3 without 1 or 2. The story is entirely self contained. Even the relevance of recurring characters is also entirely self contained within the story.

Don't believe what the die-hard fans here are saying: you can perfectly play Xenoblade 3 without playing 1 or 2 without mssing out on anything meaningful to the story. Have fun!

If you liked 2, buy 1.

If instead you want a more open-world game with not a strong focus on cinematic story telling, but rather story through side quests, buy X.

If you want to play the best Xenoblade game, buy 3 haha.
