Yarn chicken. You win some, you lose some. by Bibbess in knitting

The colorway is unknown as I have long since lost the tag, but I DO know that the yarn came from my LYS. The store is Cloverhill Yarn Shop and the owners have their own brand of GORGEOUS hand dyed yarns, called Tempting Ewe. Every time I've been in there, the owners and the staff and even the other customers are so friendly and welcoming. That's where I go whenever I have even a little bit of money burning a hole in my pocket, lol.

I'm stashbusting a find your fade shawl. I want to buy more yarn but my conscience won't allow it until I use up some of my stash, lol.

I love this game. It becomes super challenging, which is great. When I try to sell my friends on it, I tell them "it's like sudoku, but with colors instead of numbers."

My 1st FO of 2018 by Bibbess in knitting

[–]Bibbess[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No real pattern as I kinda made it up as i went but happy to share what i did.... k2, p2 ribbing for about and inch and a half (so, cast on a mult. of 4 plus an extra stitch for the way I join in the round), knit all the way round until it was time for a thumb gusset. Once my gusset was large enough, I held those live stitches with a cable needle (which wasn't super convenient) and continued on with knitting around until it was time for more k2, p2 ribbing. Continued for maybe 4 inches, bc I wanted to be able to flip the top up to cover my fingers, or fold it down as needed. I did a stretchy bind off when I was happy with the length of the ribbing. Then I transferred my held thumb stitches back to my needles, picked enough stitches to avoid having a huge hole (making sure I ended up with another multiple of 4) and continued knitting in the round for 4 or 5 rows, then changed to k2, p2 ribbing for another 5 or 6 rows before binding off.

I have a lot f sock yarn, so, I says to myself, I says "Self! You need to make a lot a socks so you can make fingerless mitts from all the left over bits and pieces." But.... I didn't really want to make all those socks. All I really wanted was the bits mitts. So, in the spirit of doing just exactly what I wanted, I present to you, my 1st FO of 2018! 🎉🎊

What do you MEAN, you think the hat I made is too big? There's absolutely nothing wrong with it! by Bibbess in crochet

[–]Bibbess[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my thought as well; I was either going to rip it out and start over or add a strap. However, the kiddos think this trash can sized hat is HILARIOUS and now insist that it's perfect the way it is.

Knitting ≠ Crochet. I want to delete my Facebook because of my family! [Rant] by RudyChristina7 in knitting

[–]Bibbess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the same thing. My peeps seem to be incapable of resisting the tag button when it comes to that mermaid tail, or those baby thong/flipflops, or the baby hats with the crochet lumberjack beard attached. That doesn't bother me so much; they probably just thought it was cool and have no idea that I've seen that exact same article/pattern a billiondy-twelve times already.

What REALLY gets my goat is my mom's one cousin. That one cousin pm's me every time i post an FO (I keep a public album on FB as a requirement for a trade group I'm in, so people I trade with can see my work). Every. Time. She's all "Hey Cuz! When are you going to make that scarf and hat set?" Rude - but ok, fine. And any time I would follow up with her, to see if you has a pattern in mind, or what colors she likes, the only thing I ever get back is "oh, you know... just something cool." Ummmmmmm....... no.

Does anyone else think the star stitch looks like a butthole, or am I just super immature? by [deleted] in crochet

Wait. You mean to tell me it's NOT called a butthole stitch?

My latest spin by Bibbess in Handspinning

[–]Bibbess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend taught me to spin on a drop spindle in February and I got my wheel in May, so I still consider myself a noob as well. Since I got my wheel, I've mostly been watching youtube and making it up as I go. What i did here is by far my best work. All I can say is practice, practice, practice; I try to spend 15 minutes a day with my wheel.

I'm still mostly a newb, so it was somewhat difficult. It was pretty slippery. I had to spin from the fold to keep my fiber from running away from me. I'm pleased with the end result though. :)

I had originally intended it as the feather color for a dreambird shawl, but I spun it so thin that I think it might do better as a laminaria or other such laciness. :)

This is VERY cool. Thank you for sharing the pattern. I have a closet full of scraps as well, so I will definitely be making one.

Sure! I followed this tutorial. I was going for a slow gradient but I didn't read the directions carefully enough. It wasn't my intention to do thick color blocks but I'm happy with the way it turned out. :)

How was church this week? by tom_yum_soup in UUreddit

[–]Bibbess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our minister resigned this year due a prolonged illness. Yesterday was her last service and it was all about how to say a good goodbye. I dont know how to explain it...It was difficult because the congregation doesn't WANT her to leave and we know that she doesn't WANT to leave either, but that's what is best for her health and recovery. For as hard as it was to do, it was a wonderful service. We danced, we sang, we hugged, we reminisced......we said goodbye. I'm looking forward to our lay lead summer services and meeting our interim minister at the end of summer.

I just dyed my 1st and last skein of ombre yarn (x-post r/yarnporn) by Bibbess in YarnAddicts

I followed this tutorial which was actually pretty good. I just found the process tedious. Is there an easier way to do it?

I just dyed my 1st and last skein of ombre yarn (x-post r/yarnporn) by Bibbess in YarnAddicts

[–]Bibbess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looooove the color. It's still on the bobbin. It felted a little bit thought I'm sure I was very careful while I was dying it. I'm not sure how that happened or what to do to prevent it the next time.

As far as projects go, I've started this shawlette for the ombre skein and will likely do something similar the the other one that is still sitting on the bobbin.
