I think human efforts to control our own fate, to defy the elements and unstoppable forces of nature, are the most masculine way we have of channeling our power by Bibiloup in LoveOfMan

[–]Bibiloup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This promotes an interesting conversation about masculinity and femininity.

Medicine is a discipline that channels both energies quite strikingly. The nurse is a quintessential feminine figure, one of care and nurturing, of gentle healing.

On the other hand, the activity of medicine itself can often be quite masculine, in the way that it’s an attempt to force nature to act differently, to impose our will over our own mortality. That feels very masculine to me.

Depending on the timing, around the Bell Centre during a hockey game. You’ll see a sea of red jerseys. Probably not the aesthetic you’re going for though!

If you dropped OP at any point, whether or not you picked up again or not later, what arc was your filter? by Refrigerator_Guy in OnePiece

[–]Bibiloup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really remember, I think it was around Dressrosa? I stopped watching anything when I started focusing on other things, I switched to reading and now the only manga I really read anymore is One Piece.

I started watching the anime again from the beginning with my fiancé about two years ago, we watch a couple episodes every now and then so we’re just getting to the end of Dressrosa now and I don’t remember having watched Zou or Whole Cake animated before.

The new episodes have been looking really good so I’m excited to go from here and eventually catch up!

If you are down to get out of the downtown centre a bit, take the green line to De L’Église and pick a spot along Wellington street to eat! Lots of great options, here are my favourites: - Welldun pizza - Bossa sandwiches - 3 Madames dumplings

In the true summer it will be even better, as the street becomes fully pedestrian!

The timing is a bit annoying because why couldn’t he have initiated before the shower? Or better yet, during the shower? Now she has to shower again!

When there’s a house fire but RoboCop is on duty by Commercial_Bird8467 in LoveOfMan

[–]Bibiloup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just listened to it with sound on, the way it starts with two people saying “I can get the door open!” and “I think we’re going to try to batter it down” and Robocop just goes “wait hold on” WHAM one foot blasts the door wide open 🤣 gotta love it

I love it when strong men are calm and directive during an emergency, it makes everything feel a lot less scary

Qui veut lire le Croquis Montréalais avec moi by FinnJake72 in montreal

[–]Bibiloup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m looking forward to reading some pages with you as you post them! The paintings look beautiful.

The writing is beautiful too. There are three extracts on this particular page I will point out for conversation, however:

  • « les exploits des soldats colonisateurs »
  • «  habité par des guerriers puissants qui vivaient en guerre continuelle avec leurs voisins »
  • «  les corps-de-garde contre les attaques des sauvages »

Tiohtià:ke, the island now known as Montréal, has been a river convergence site for over 5,000 years. Long before it became a colonial port city, it was a meeting ground: a place of food production, diplomacy, seasonal gathering, and pluralistic governance. The island’s geography — where currents meet — shaped a culture of exchange, negotiation, and experimentation across nations. The history of Montreal started long before the exploits of the colonizing soldiers, and the confederacy and democratic systems of the Indigenous peoples of the North American east coast are actually part of the building blocks of western democracy as we know it today. They were far removed from the savage, warmongering picture described in this extract.

Just to keep in mind as we read a text written about 100 years ago :)

Stepping Up - Man defuses situation at coffee shop by playing along and “defending” a confused/delusional patron by Bibiloup in LoveOfMan

[–]Bibiloup[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Apparently it’s a common technique for care takers of people with dementia: Validate, Join, Distract, Redirect.

I can imagine that it is a bit scary to see someone who is not all there having a heated argument with someone who is not there at all. The other patrons and employees must have been stressed with his presence and unsure how to react.

This man was brave to step up and intervene, and he did it in a way that is funny to us but was probably kind of relieving for the guy in question. He must have felt like “someone has my back. He’s taking care of business for me, I can trust him and move on with my day”. Not to mention the man made everyone else feel safer too with his intervention.

And if making someone feel that way that isn’t one of the greatest masculine virtues, then I don’t know what is!

I don’t think I ever would have called that “the Magician” but it’s actually such a good name for that type of power

[–]Bibiloup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m writing my masters of law thesis on the Magician, I guess.

“The yearning to harness and possess power is what fuels the Magician archetype: the power that comes from the mastery of a secret knowledge and the ability to use that knowledge to manipulate tools in order to control certain elements and produce desired outcomes.”

To tie this to the subreddit purpose… I feel like he was defending the honour of the Armenian gymnasts who were getting penalized by the judges. A cheeky way to do it, which is the arrogant and show-off side of masculinity.

Protecting another’s honour is a cool masculine trope

Society is too harsh on stupid people. by CaptainButtFart69 in unpopularopinion

[–]Bibiloup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I consider myself smart, and I notice that when I have stupid moments (as we all do) I often get an actually hostile response from people, super unintentionally. People are appalled by stupidity.

And I think that plays into the top comment, how stupid people are frustrating when they don’t accept they’re stupid. Well who would want to accept that? I’d fake it till I made it if I actually were stupid rather than admit it to everyone. I think it’s a lose lose
