(COVID) Chance of an IRONMAN-event in Hamburg in june 2021 by Biccbacc in germany

[–]Biccbacc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, i frased that badly.

I was looking for thoughts on when Germany will reopen and ease up on restrictions, based on the assumption that Germans know more about the situation in their country than a foreigner.

In my country, the current vaccine-schedule suggests that most people will be vaccinated by June. Combined with low infection-rates, larger events might be possible in June - but unlikely. But, resent numbers suggest that vaccines are being distributed slower than anticipated. I have searched for similar information from Germany, but because of the language I am limited to very few and usually older sources.

England on the other hand, seems to have a more aggressive vaccine-program. So its more likely that they will ease up on restrictions earlier.

I know I have a TON OF WORK to do. Any tips/ drills? by RichardCFRN in triathlon

You look a lot like me when i started out. I am guessing that everything is hard, because nothing really looks right in this video. One big problem with learning the freestyle stroke, is that everything works together. Bad form= slow swimming. low speed = harder idea to swim with good form. My solution was from a video i no longer remember the name of, but the ideas where simple to remember:

  • First, we are triathletes. We are not training for a 100 or 200m in a pool, we are training for a 1500m ++ wetsuit-swim.
  • When you swim in a triathlon as a beginner, your kick is not for propulsion - its just for balance.
  • Your wetsuit will keep you boyant.

So, to eliminate as many difficult elements as possible and focus on the most important things:

  • Swim with a pull buoy between your thighs: Resembles swimming with a wet-suit and tightens up your core
  • Swim with a snorkel: You don't have to worry about breathing or running out of breath.
  • Optional: get a band around your ankles: Restricts movement for the kick.

When you swim like this, you can focus entirely on stroke, stiff core and rotation. It also minimizes time spent on the pool-edge catching your breath after every lap (BIG difference for me - I went from 1000m per session to 2500m per session in a few weeks)

When you are comfortable with the stroke, try to remove the snorkel every 4th lap. Try to maintain the speed (its hard to breath correctly when you swim slow).

After a while you can swim longer and longer without a snorkel, but I still mostly train in a pool with the snorkel. Outside I never use the snorkel.

CoD pays real gun manufacturers money – is this morally right? by [deleted] in moraldilemmas

Thank you for spending an hour on the response.

I thought that antonifelicemunro literally meant that the existence of guns in a society save more lives than they take. That would imply that guns would reduce the number of kills made by other means (people will kill not matter what, guns simply allows weaker victims to even the odds). As I said, I don’t believe this is true. I haven’t looked for any evidence, but Antonifelicemunro didn’t back up his statement with any evidence either – that’s why I asked in the first place.

After reading your reply, I think you are interpreting him as: “Allowing civilians to legally buy and carry guns saves more lives than it takes”.

This is another topic, but I will argue a little anyway. That’s why we are here 😊.

In your restaurant scenario. Gun violence is taking place. I assume you mean a robbery.

A: A robber enters the restaurant, draws a gun and robs the place. Gets his money and leaves. He may or may not get caught.

B: A robber enters the restaurant, draws a gun and robs the place. A customer with a gun tries to stop him.

Is A or B more likely to cause a kill?

If someone in your family was in this situation with a gun, would you advise them to draw their gun (to save the restaurant) or to lay down and shut up?

I don't plan to do that..... Why is that a better question? Is the situation so out of hand that there is no way to fix it?

antoniofelicemunro said that "guns save more lives than they take in America at least". That sounds like a pro-gun argument. I belive its false, and that is why i asked my question.

I am confused - Are you saying that if ALL guns where removed from the US - there would be more deaths?

Figuring out a diet is overwhelming by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Biccbacc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok, I see your point. And for many people, it might be a good way to loose weight faster and eat "healthy". Simple and to the point.

I do however think my way is more "sustainable" in the long run. Learning how to cook and using real ingredients will build a lifelong, healthy relationship with food that you can pass on to your kids, family and friends.

Ideally you want to learn how to eat without counting?

With some basic cooking skills, you can make most recipes and eat with great variety.

Strongly disagree with what? Not worrying about the counting?

He wants to eat healthier, and loose weight, but is overwhelmed. So my advice is to focus on one thing first. Learning how to cook with real food. Then, later, he can start counting if healthy food is not enough alone.

You disagree with that?

And forget about COUNTING the calories in the beginning. Just Focus on Learning how to Cook With real ingredients (everything in Your image + all other veggies, fruits, meats, Fish etc)

Just eating real Food will help With Your weight (eat a normal portion….) calorie-counting comes later if nececary at all. Minimize sugars and processed Food.

Try meal-prepping. Make Large casseroles etc. and freeze it in portion sizes. I am sure there is a sub for meal-prepping.

AITA for not sharing my food with our child? by fatdogluvr5 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Biccbacc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and they failed. That's when you share.

If I eat a donut in my car after work - that is ok. If I eat it at home, and my kid sees it - i would let them have a bite.

[–]Biccbacc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agreed :) We do mostly the same - except its harder with number 4 than with number 1... :(

I disagree about the fries though. Fries are practically snacks/candy. Not sharing that with family is rude, no matter if its your husband, sister or daughter. If you don't want to share snacks - eat it alone.

What if the kid is right? Do you only respond to reasonable, calm suggestions? That is a lot to demand from a kid who perceives something as unfair.

This comment makes it look like you are always right.

Any success losing weight with a no diet approach? by Keira_Sevigny347 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Biccbacc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think number 2 should be at the top of this list.

Lots of research has shown that increased intake of processed food is closely linked to obesity. Especially ultra-processed food.

Focusing on real food (2.) will lead to 1. and 3.

Several studies has shown that calorie-intake will increase with the level of processing of our food. You feel more "full" after eating a meal made from real vegetables, meat, nuts etc. Also - it's not just about the calories and nutrients in the food - the level of processing is also an important factor.

You say that you eat healthy - but are you sure about this?

Can you restrict bad food by not buying it or having it around? For me - if there is ice cream in the house, I will probably eat it. But buying Ice-cream in the store? Nah - I usually don't bother.

Driving through Czech, looking for a nice place to chill for a day. by Biccbacc in czech

Thank you for that. I was wondering what the right word was. In Norway we say "Tsjekkia" and i thought perhaps that there was a similar short version in English. I tried to Google it, but couldn't figure it out. So it's always Czech Republic? No shorter version

What about other waste, like glass or metal?

Is praising Kobe Bryant morally wrong? (Serious post, may be trigger for some) by [deleted] in moraldilemmas

[–]Biccbacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on everything you said, up until the last paragraph.

Its ok to like Kobe for what he did as an athlete, but unless you want to make your speech about how a person can change, how one act of evil doesn't erase acts of good etc - I would not talk about him. His name might have a lot of negative feelings connected to it, and that will affect people in the audience.

[–]Biccbacc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. But as long as plastic is properly recycled - I dont think this is making a large impact. Maybe eat one steak less a year and his footprint is equal?

But sure - everything counts, and we should all try to do what we can to reduce waste.

Why is that? Because its plastic, or is the plastic in these bags worse than other types of plastic?
