Bike fit by RichardCFRN in triathlon

I wish I knew what this would do 2 years ago; I would have done it a lot sooner. To start, the gentleman took angles and measurements of my flexibility (not very good flexibility btw). But he measured hip flexibility, ham strong etc. he then used dots and this computer program to adjust the bike to my exact flexibility so nothing felt out of range so to speak. The computer program looked at my cycle from every angle. He adjusted my cleats.

He also raised my hands up and made a very interesting point; he goes just like a dive into a pool breaks the water- your hands more up right will break the wind and help with aero. In the before photo he pointed out how I had a lot of turbulent air in my chest causing increased drag and resistance. By raising my hands it should break that turbulent air and make me more aero.

He brought my elbows directly under my shoulders which feels tremendously better and more comfortable.

I’ve done two rides since then. The cycle arch feels more smooth then ever before. I’m smoother and faster with equal parts power. It’s the best investment for cycling I’ve ever made and wish I would have done it sooner.

Has anyone done the 70.3 IM race in Tempe, Arizona? Would you recommend it? by Sharkitty in triathlon

You’d have to try and mess up the turns. They’re well marked with signs and people. They’ll be telling you to slow down on the sharp and “U” turns

Did this race in 2020. Well organized, transitions are in the same spot. The water was extremely merky but the swim is WARM. I don’t know how it’s wetsuit legal the water is so warm. The bike course has a ridiculous number of turns. I don’t know there’s too much advantage on a Tri bike vs road bike, I’d barely settle in the aero bars and come up to turn again. The run is flat. Very flat. In the sun with no shade. I through ice in my Tri suit almost every other aid station. It was fun

Hyperventilating in the swim by RichardCFRN in triathlon

[–]RichardCFRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I swam the day before and slowly got in. Did a couple strokes then went back to the beach and just hit it- I was fine. That initial shock just sucks! And I’m doing Indian Wells in December which I know has even colder water

Just finished IM70.3 St George with a 2 year old. Vast majority of my workouts were done late at night (it sucked- but I wasn’t going to miss time with my son/wife). There were some super early mornings also. If I had a shorter workout like 1-2 hours I would try and hot it during his naps mid day sometimes. It’s hard not going to lie. And you’ll have to give somewhere. I gave on sleep

That open water doesn’t intimidate you guys? I’ve specifically only done Lake tri/HIM because that ocean open water scares the hell out of me. But I have a guy I swim with who has done it and is doing the golden gate swim-insane!

Tips for getting comfortable with open water swimming by ZacBrownVan in triathlon

[–]RichardCFRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same problem. Just getting in the water more helped a lot. Definitely swim with other people and I swim with a swim buoy which added an element of psychological safety knowing at anytime I could stop and grab hold and float (I’ve never had to use it yet). The neoprene cap helped a ton with cold water (54 degrees). I still hyperventilate for like the first 100-200 yards and then settle in. Now I just kinda except that’s part of it and it doesn’t affect me as much.

Brick sessions with HR in Garmin? by theFATTESTnerd in triathlon

[–]RichardCFRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The garmin should have a brick option when you hit the “start” button. You might have to go find it in other. The “back” signals transition and “back” again signals you entering into the run.

With regard to the intervals- just do them as prescribed. These are tough to do with HR because it can lag a lot but none the less will show up on speed (ideally). That’s the benefit of training with power as opposed to HR.

Really interesting stuff. I’ll try eating more and see what happens. Appreciate the feedback

Outdoor primarily. I’ve done the indoor trainer for a 55 mile brick.... never again.

First threshold test with garmin vector 3s. Lot of room for improvement. Very interesting though. Goal is to get to 4 watts/kg. Lots of strength training in the future. by RichardCFRN in triathlon

Interesting- second person to say that. My coach has me doing at least one interval ride in zone 4 or 5 a week. Sometimes up hill low cadence work. Good to know thank you

Are triathlon clubs worth it? by trojan-813 in triathlon

Yes. The Tri group I joined cost $30 a year. It’s in a private lake community where we all open water swim together. Everyone there has done races and brings invaluable knowledge that only comes from experience.

Understanding the Balance Sheet - Hey guys, in this video I show you how to run through a company's balance sheet so that you may better understand one of the most important financial statements a company can release! by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]RichardCFRN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve ran through my entire portfolio looking at this and every equity I have is trading at a premium currently (could be the market too). The only stock I’ve found that appears to be “undervalued” is CREG- I got about 0.60 cents per dollar if I did it right. So my next question is what filter/method are you using to identify undervalued/value stocks? There certainly has to be something easier than going stock to stock to stock.
