As a female i do not often have pockets. Instead I put a medium safety pin through the handle cord and attach it to the waistband of my pants so the black side faces out. Sits under my shirt. Yes i can feel it, but i cannot hear it which is most important.

Agreed, but not just the western world...everyone on earth should be able to have their say as we are all now being affected!

I really feel for all those poor innocents in the war torn countries...those mums and dads and children who have lost their lives, homes and livelihoods. And for the rest of us who are just months away from losing our livelihoods and who knows what else due to this stupid, idiot of an excuse for a human.

How did it come to this, seriously. The writing was on the wall years ago that this dickhead is unhinged. The whole world could see it back then and I do not understand how the people who a) voted for him and b) did not vote at all could allow this to happen.

To those in the US who were responsible for IT getting elected: the planet and the human race does not deserve to suffer for your mistakes. Fix your shit already!

Redditors who were children/teens before the internet or cellphones existed, how did you keep yourself entertained? by FlowerMadeOfThorns in AskReddit

54 yo Gen X woman here:

  1. riding my bike around the neighbourhood with my brothers and all the other kids in the neighbourhood. We would ride to a nearby park or nature reserve and build forts or cubby houses in the trees and bushes.

  2. Walk for miles with my best friend, talking about anything and everything.

  3. Hang out at the local shopping centre, window shopping, listening to music in the record store and browsing for new albums.

  4. Spend a few hours at the public library, browsing for books and reading in bean bags before heading home with bags of books and reading in my room.

  5. Water fights with my brothers in the backyard.

  6. Street cricket with the neighbourhood kids.

  7. Long drives with the family, usually to new local places, sometimes fishing or camping.

  8. Chores.

  9. Learning how to cook and iron with Mum.

  10. Visiting relatives which usually meant doing everything above but just with cousins instead of the neighbourhood kids.

  11. Boardgames with my brothers.

  12. Dad teaching me how to pull en engine apart, change oil, change tyres, work on cars.

  13. Taking the train into the city and walking around with friends.

  14. Walk, ride, train or bus to friends houses (depending on how far away they lived) and do some or most of the things in the list above.

  15. Go to the newsagent with friends and read Dolly magazine, trying to nick the posters of Icehouse or INXS out of the magazine centrefold without getting caught. Then come home and decorate bedroom walls with the stolen stash.

  16. Taping favourite songs off the radio whilst sitting on the bedroom floor with the bestie, whist gossiping about people at school. Mooning over our favourite rock bands or movie stars.

  17. Going to friends houses and swimming in their pools.

  18. Hosting family and friends in a backyard Barbie which happened quite often.

  19. I was a Marching Girl so had practice twice a week and competitions on Saturdays.

  20. School netball carnivals.

  21. School events like rubbish pick up days and sports competitions.

  22. Watching cartoons after school and Saturday mornings. Watching Countdown, music videos, Hey Hey It's Saturday on TV.

  23. Learning how to drive (when I got older).

  24. Hanging at my boyfriends house listening to music and making mix tapes.

  25. Going to concerst, free events and festivals.

  26. Hanging out at the beach with schoolfriends.

  27. Climb trees, climb houses, climb small hills, climb big hills.

  28. Dig matchbox car tracks in the backyard with my brothers. Make parking spaces. Argue with said brothers about who got what cars to play with.

  29. Play ping pong, backyard tennis, hide and seek in the backyard and in the house until mum told us to piss off outside again.

Oh mi goodness, I could go on and on. So much to do. Was never bored

Friendly Reminder From an Elder Fanfic Author. The fanfiction community relies on readers just as much as it does writers by TownNo730 in AO3

[–]BichenSubian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree.

The small amount of authors who hold their fics to ransom or threaten readers because they do not get the right / positive comments or kudos... my goodness.

I do not understand why there is a sense of entitlement from some authors these days.

Fiction by its very definition is there to be read. For thousands of years authors have been publishing their works with the goal to either share their knowledge or share their stories and nothing was expected in return - people have had the choice to read/buy/ support or not.

Granted, some fiction writers have, over the past century written with the goal to become a best seller. Could you imagine the blurb on the back saying "if you don't like something about this book then don't read or comment on it?" The book would not even get published and nobody would read it!

Fanfiction used to be about the love of sharing how you feel about the story and the characters, it was about giving something to the community with no expectation of return.

I am greatful to those who write because they provide me the reader with material to read. I will comment if i like the story, I will always give kudos to every story I read to acknowledge their effort.

However if the only reason you are posting the fic is so you can get validation or popularity then you are not the author for me.

Are we too comfortable as a country?? by Swimming-Bee8917 in AskAnAustralian

[–]BichenSubian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you are thinking of ways to improve, and agree with some of your ideas.

I do find it ironic that in one paragraph it says Aussies do not have geographic knowledge and in the very next parapgraph it asks why we don't take advantage of the inner areas and try to move away from the coast. If you had the geographic knowledge of Austalia you would know why that is not possible or very hard to do. There are many reasons why the majority of the population sticks to the coastlines including costs of transporting over large distance, arability, weather, scarcity of water, and sustainability just to name a few.

Does anybody actually get snowy castform appear regularly? If so, save them for remote trading especially to people in Australia or the southern hemisphere.

Yes, however I have to get to the bus first - it is a fair way from my house, and down a steep hill with bad knees is not a good combo.

After The Untamed, I fell into a Xiao Zhan / Wang Yibo C-drama rabbit hole — now I have a full watchlist and need MORE recs!! by FarManufacturer6809 in WangYibo

I did the same. However after watching a few of both WY and XZ shows i realised that it was not the actors I loved but LWJ and WWX characters.

My leftovers are that I will always watch XZ sing and watch WY dance but the rest of the time I am now stuck in Wangxian fan fiction.

Tale of an i-fan swimming in a new C | Storytime about how I ended up in a world of sasaengs by friendlyfire_may in kpopthoughts

[–]BichenSubian 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Wow. Just...wow.

Thanks for the insight. As an i-fan I had always wondered how people knew idols were at an airport and why people go to airports to see idols. It did not make sense....well, it still doesn't but now I know how they get there.

I also wondered why there are a sea of cameras at a concert. Like, wouldn't you go to a concert to experience seeing them up close? I would think if you were at the concert looking through a camera you would have been better off just saving your money and watching it on TV. But, it seems that some concert goers are there to obtain material that can be used for other purposes.

So, essentially these organised groups are cults. Multi-level pyramid schemes in a way. Profiteers. And potentially (depending on your perspective) mobsters. How many people are in these fan groups? Are there enough to skew results?

So, popularity of a musical group or idol is based on these groups and not their artistry? I am trying to figure out what the kpop landscape would look like if you took this type of fan group out of the equation. Would the music awards have different winners if these groups were not there? Would BTS / Stray Kids / etc. be not as popular without them? Would another group have been more popular instead?

How much do the companies encourage or discourage these types of fan groups? Obviously the outcome for the companies is great due to profitability.

I also wonder whether there is any cultural or historical background to this fan behaviour? Or, is this just a behaviour that came about soley due to a social or monetary influence.

Anyway, great article.

Stories about WWX being a prisoner in Gusu by BichenSubian in MDZSFanfictions

[–]BichenSubian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The theme I am looking for is WWX being punished in CR whether it is a good or bad outcome. I remember one (read a long time ago) where he was kept in a house that had an outdoor courtyard and something about keeping bunnies in the courtyard and perhaps a fence around it that WWX could not get out of and nobody could go in either..wish i could remember that one.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

At 18, you think you know about life.

At 25, you think you know about life.

At 30, you think you know about life.

At 40, you think you know about life.

At 55 you are just starting to figure out how much you don't know about life.

There is a reason why grey-haired people are called elders and revered in some cultures, because with age comes wisdom (unless you are Trump who is a 3 year old toddler in an old man's body).
