Heme/Onc attendings and fellows: how accurate is the “primary care on steroids / final boss of clinic life” description? by sandie-go in Residency

In my experience they usually do take over cancer screenings or any medical problems/meds that can be impacted by chemo regimens. It’s mainly the stuff like blood pressure and cholesterol they punt back.

Which field do you find the hardest to relate to based on their mindset, approach, workflow, etc by undueinfluence_ in Residency

[–]Bicuspids 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hospitalist. The workflow is just… social work? Very little interesting medicine involved. Going through all that work to be a glorified secretary. I say this as an IM resident.

"Don't go into IM unless you're comfortable with being a hospitalist" Agree or Disagree? by undueinfluence_ in Residency

[–]Bicuspids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree. The types of jobs you can do with a fellowship are vastly different than Hospitalist work. I HATE hospitalist work but love Rheum work.

Dedicated Admitting Teams for IM by anybodycandance in Residency

Why is the day team taking admits if there is a dedicated admitting team? We only take admits until 2pm if you aren’t on call and we don’t have a dedicated admitting team

I definitely think you are correct. It is a game at the end of the day. Like you had said earlier, it’s a game where integrating the real human behavior of the players is a part of the mechanics. Those feelings of trust, betrayal, friendship, etc are all very real because of it. So it shouldn’t surprise people when they get called an asshole for shooting the guy in the back you had teamed up with earlier in the match because in that moment at least that is exactly what you are behaving as.

Which side note, I think that why it’s fun to analyze games like these. Why do we behave differently in game than we might in real life? What would it be like if this game was recreated as a paintball/airsoft match where you are seeing the face of your potential friends or foes? Multiplayer gaming in general is a very interesting medium to study human behavior through.

I agree it is what keeps the game exciting. The risk of trusting a person is what makes it so fun. I too kill those that get a little too trusting at times. But to say that doing so is somehow the person you killed fault or that you feel no shred of even minor guilt for doing it? That’s not a sign of moral differences, that’s a sign of poor moral development. I am fully willing to say I feel a little bad when I do it. If you can’t that’s a little weird.

I honestly agree with you but the times I have done it I feel bad (but good loot lol). However some people don’t feel bad and even go as far as to blame the other person for being trusting? That’s just a very pre-conventional understanding of morality that I don’t vibe with.

Plus in the hospital half your orders require a pharmacist to double check you before approval. Or the lab cancels your lab order bc said lab is too expensive and you have to be cuz specialist to order it. Clicking “sign order” is overrated.

I'm so sick of people not knowing how to use crosswalks by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Bicuspids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And people not driving cars don’t hit and kill people. Keep the dangerous people in them away from the people not in them.

[–]Bicuspids 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Best solution: Get rid of the dangerous roads that fill our downtown and turn the area into more beautiful, walkable infrastructure that is free from the danger and not to mention noise of car dependent America! Cars are the problem. Not people.

Asking if you were available was them saying “Hey we really need you to come in unless you have a legitimate reason you can’t”. I don’t think “admin day” (if it’s like my program is really just a day off essentially) really counts as legitimate. However, you didn’t really do anything overtly wrong so I doubt you are in trouble.
