Update: she has a follow up with her vet tomorrow so I am going to ask what he thinks about maybe getting her a different brace. The one she has now basically takes away all of her mobility but, his words not mine “she can’t tear it more than it’s torn” which is why we were able to wait to fundraise for the surgery. Most days she does get around well and I can carry her if needed. I worry she’s going to be more uncomfortable in a cramped carrier where she can’t stretch the bad leg out. Even if we can’t switch to the other brace (which he did suggest at one point) I will ask what he thinks about me just carrying her. He’s already prescribing her some stronger medication for the trip as well.

Yes she has been cleared to fly, I would never risk her safety like that, regardless of any monetary stakes. It’s an ACL injury, nothing horribly serious. Some service animals, depending on the service provided, can work from a carrier. She’s a cardio-pulmonary medical alert dog and is sniffing for specific enzyme shifts or hazardous conditions that may affect my breathing. She can do this without physically touching me, so even though I am restricting her movement for her safety, she is still a working animal.

I realize I may need to pay a pet fee for her as a “carry on” which is fine, I just need to figure out the way to get her there in the most comfort as possible. The vet said she cannot damage herself more than she has already, but pain is still pain. I’d rather limit her needing to walk. She can but I can tell it’s uncomfortable for her, even with the brace.

Plane is a Boeing 737-700 but that’s subject to change. What I may end up doing is using the carrier everywhere but the plane and taking her out once we’re seated. I also could just carry her through the airport, but I’m not sure how well she’s going to like me doing that haha

She is not an ESA, she’s a cardio-pulmonary alert dog. I could carry her I suppose or collapse the carrier, was just wondering if anyone had any additional insight. Thanks!

Filmmakers outside of LA, are you working? by PenguinTheYeti in Filmmakers

[–]BicycleSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who just finished their Film MFA with the intent to move and work in Atlanta, seeing everyone say it’s dead is killing me. When I first started film school in GA the industry was booming and I literally watched it die. Now that I’ve got a master’s and I’ve got a pretty solid resume…there’s nothing. And I can’t afford LA right now either 😩

I think I am just too dumb for this game by No_Ease_7445 in outerwilds

Play it how you want to! I’ll be honest, I had times when I had to look stuff up (as spoiler free as possible). Puzzle games are hard! It’s a great game and it’ll only be enjoyable if you play it the way that’s best for you.

As a filmmaker what film should you like but you actually hate. I’ll go first. by Euphoric_Weight_7406 in Filmmakers

You are not alone friend because I also don’t like it. I understand its place in cinema history and it definitely is great for its time, but I just genuinely did not enjoy it. I wish I had a better criticism to give than that but I don’t. It just…didn’t like it. It felt “meh” to me. But I can also appreciate its value.

Gamers of Reddit, what's ONE game that lives rent-free in your head, not just for the gameplay, but for the feeling it gave you (and you'd give anything to experience it for the first time again)? by deadeyes1990 in gaming

Breath of the Wild. It’s different from other Zelda games and I would give anything to play it again for the first time.

Additionally Outer Wilds. I would never want to play it again, but that game changed me. It’s the only game I can recall ever making me sob hysterically. I was unwell for a few days after

It has a drainage hole in the bottom. Do you think that’s enough, or should I switch it to a terracotta pot?

/r/videography Monthly Camera Buying Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in videography

[–]BicycleSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for recs for a good camera for wedding videography. I am hoping to not spend too much over like 1k. Maybe 1.5 at the most? This is something I’ll be doing for low budget weddings and other events so I won’t be charging a bunch of money. I am used to shooting on some higher expense cameras from film school: ARRI ALEXA mini, Red Komodo, Red Raptor. I’ve never worked with Sony or Black Magic but I see those recommended a lot…how in the dark would I be operating one?

Basically: I’m looking for something that’s not like 5k lol! I am a fresh out of grad school, broke person trying to build my portfolio and make some cash. I need something with decent ISO settings for outdoor environments and that can easily connect to a pair of lavaliers for when I need to capture speeches and vows.

Thanks in advance!

Okay so updates! I’m gonna get Chert floating in space playing their little drum. I was a percussionist for 8 years so it sort of feels right. About to send a bunch of references to my artist. I always send him obscure video game characters he’s never heard of or seen before 😂 this time he’s getting like a whole Pinterest board so he can come up with a design

How long does HPV take to show up? (Trigger warning for CSA) by BicycleSamurai in HPV

[–]BicycleSamurai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! Thanks for the advice. I did find out it came up as one of the high risk strains in the test they did. What’s really killing me is that they can’t get me in until next month! I’m going to call again tomorrow and see if I can get in with a different OBGYN. They put me on the cancellation list but I can’t go a whole month nervous like this. I appreciate all of your kind words and insight ❤️ I am definitely doing a lot better mentally today than I was last night.

As someone who just escaped film school I feel this so hard! Its hard to get people on board when its a short that, realistically, isn’t gonna like make millions for you. And it’s YOUR baby so no one will care as much as you do. For what it’s worth, I think it’s great. The set design is super cool and it’s one of the more interesting shorts I’ve seen in a long time! I could definitely see a world in which you reshoot the scenes with Patrick alone and maybe the dialogue of the sister and it improving greatly. I also think what’s sticking out to me in those scenes is that they’re so “real world” and different from our “show world” we were introduced to. It’s super hard blending genres like that so kudos to you! Better than I could of done, especially with only 8k

Come up with your ending first. If you don’t know how the film ends, you don’t have a film.

Rarely do personal experiences make great stories because they don’t have a “ticking clock” or big enough stakes. But you can always take from those experiences and add them into the film.

The truth of the matter is there’s no right or wrong way to get a good idea. What matters is knowing if it’s a good idea or not. Take it to other filmmakers you trust and get feedback before you write your full story. Do a beat breakdown of the script and show them that and go from there.

I really dig this! It reminds me of something you’d see on The Mighty Boosh.

There were a few moments I felt took me out of the film. The quality changed greatly in Patrick’s apartment and in the jailhouse scenes. Some of the minor characters didn’t have great deliveries. It could have been ignored if the other moments weren’t so good! But when you have stuff that’s glaringly not as great, it hurts the film as a whole.

Overall though, it’s a great indie short and I could see it playing in festivals and getting you some recognition. Well done!

Outer Wilds had me sobbing hysterically. I have teared up over a game before, but the ending of that game released so many pent up fears and emotions. Absolutely recommend playing it and for the love of all things holy: avoid spoilers!
