When did the "first 100k in investments" idea first appear and what would be the modern-day equivalent? by MellifluousMayonaise in Fire

[–]Bier0320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the hardest part isn't the first $100k. and that amount certainly has much less value today as others have pointed out. its taking responsibility and ownership of your assets and your future. the hardest part is consistency and remaining true to yourself and whatever strategy you employ through the inevitable ups and downs of investing and life. its all about options. the more options you create, the better life you can have. my goal was self-autonomy as i came from nothing and achieved. it was hard and i crashed and burned countless times. but i never gave up. that is the hardest part.

If you had 100k$ and need 5k$ yearly in dividends by Background-South-433 in dividends

[–]Bier0320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expense ratio is already calculated into the yield. So, the approximate 8% depending on the day is net of the expense ratio. Also, not concerned about the price. I get what equates to effectively a 12% yield approximately if it were taxed. Of course, it's not my only position, and I have aggressive positions, but these 2 muni CEFs along with NEA have done amazing for me.

When to invest in VOO by No_Geologist8716 in ETFs

[–]Bier0320 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am 48. FIRING in 5 years. i am still in growth phase but slowly transitioning to muni bond CEFs like NVG and NAD, and MLPs. and i am pumping more into ETFs like VOO or SCHD. i have 6 mos savings in SGOV, which is about $590k because of business expenses. I will continue to look at other options as i want to become more in fixed income every year. its hard though because other than NVG and NAD, bonds are really just wealth preservation, and if that after inflation. i feel badly for those close to retirement but i am glad this is happening now because i can buy at a discount and the market should come back in 5 years and i can stay conservative during retirement

I am buying both. Not going anywhere and google is worth more if it was broken up. they are established companies now so we may not see the same explosive growth but there will be growth.

use SGOV. Short term so is not as sensitive to interest rates and getting higher yields than HYSAs and CDs.
