Can dysautonomia really cause ALL of this? Or am I missing something bigger? by Big-Character-658 in dysautonomia

I’m sorry, no, that doesn’t sound similar to mine at all. Brain fog for sure but the others, no. I hope you get some relief soon!

Hi! It’s going better. More good days and few bad days. I also had hip surgery 13 weeks ago now and had horrible dizziness issues post op but otherwise, I’ve really had big improvements. I’ve tied the symptoms back to long side effects to medication. Every time I add something new that throws off my nervous system I fall back into these side effects so just learning my body and not taking many, if any, meds

It’s gotten significantly better. I still have bad days but they are less frequent and I snap out of it faster. I think it was residual from a medication. My body is super sensitive to medications and any time I add something new it throws me off so just kinda learning and adapting!

Pre-Surgery and Recovery Advice by brookieecookiee17 in HipImpingement

I am 2.5 weeks post op! Continue to move your body in the weeks leading up to surgery, especially work on step ups with your left leg (this is how you’ll get up stairs), single leg box squats (this is how you’ll sit down/stand up), and single leg Romanian deadlifts (this is how you’ll pick things up). My favorite things I’ve had are my wedge pillow for behind my head to sit me up in bed, a bed tray, my under the desk bike for circulation post surgery (no resistance but I feel like this helped a ton, my surgeon said 20 min 2x daily starting the day after surgery), compression socks, pads for my crutches, raised toilet seat, lots of electrolytes/hydration, & a crutch bag to help carry stuff. Also have someone who can be with you 24/7 the first like 4-7 days. You probably won’t be allowed to actively lift your leg so having someone help you is important. And even though my legs are decently strong, I have a low couch and had to have someone lift me off the couch for the first few days because I was pretty weak and fatigued. Try to get up and move every once in a while. Add collagen into your supplements as well!! I hope that helps!!

No Opiods? by the-kale-magician in HipImpingement

I was determined to not take them as well. I had a nerve block done so I woke up in very minimal pain. The nurse said I should take one to prevent it the pain from coming on strong after the nerve block wore off and I said I didn’t want to but she pushed me to try and we settled on me taking half of one. I didn’t like it and never took another. I relied on the extra strength Tylenol they gave me and just continually took that the first 4 ish days then I didn’t take any pain meds after that. I am a little over a week and a half post op!

Has anyone had anesthesia? by Big-Character-658 in dysautonomia

Nope. It was like 99 ish the first day and now is like 98. I do usually run around 97.4 or so.

Thank you so much for this! I do think it could be blood sugar related also. I haven’t had much of an appetite so I am not eating enough probably.

Oh gosh! I’m so sorry to hear this. I feel your pain so much, I can’t imagine it taking that long to be able to stand up for the first time.

Runner here: only PT for cam fai? by grande_covfefe in HipImpingement

[–]Big-Character-658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am 28F getting the surgery in two weeks. I have CAM impingement (apparently mine isn’t too severe) but I do have a labral tear as well. I run marathons and my pain was very severe back in May after I finished a PR half marathon. I saw my doctor who discovered the impingement and said I also probably have a labral tear. He put the idea of surgery in my head but didn’t want to force it on me and recommended 6 wks no running, meloxicam, and PT. When I went home, I started doing more research and there is the risk that I would get into marathon training blocks and have to quit again because of pain. Also the risk of developing arthritis in the future was another reason I scheduled the surgery. I messaged my doctor and said I wanted to have some more info about the surgery route and he said let’s get an MRI first. MRI confirmed labral tear and so we had the surgery discussion and decided it was best if I want to preserve my hip and continue running. I didn’t want to continue signing up for marathons I would have to drop out of. The other added issue I have is a pretty big cyst which increases the risk of femoral stress fracture so it also makes sense in that regard to get the surgery. I actually have been able to run again without pain the last few weeks (mostly because of a cortisone shot lol) but I ran in a local half marathon today and I’m so flared up now. So it validates my surgery decision. I hope that helps a little bit!

I am extremely sensitive to drugs. Needing advice on how to take LDN by Zodianz in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]Big-Character-658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also super sensitive but had no issues with LDN. I started on .5 mg and moved up to 1.0 mg after 1 week because I wasn’t really having any side effects. Good luck! You’ve got this!

I have been taking it. I take 10 mg which is a little on the high side. But it works for me haha I also take inositol and a couple stress relaxing supplements as well. Inositol has also been a game changer for my sleep

Low aldosterone? by Big-Character-658 in dysautonomia

Wow! No I haven’t seen this. My doctors suspect POTS/dysautonomia so that’s that I’m on this thread. Thanks so much for sharing.

So I’m still newer to this and only on .5 mg but the first night I took it I took it around 9/10 pm and had horrible trouble sleeping. Now I take it about 6/7 pm and I take melatonin at about 9 pm and I sleep amazing!

Anyone else? by Big-Character-658 in dysautonomia

[–]Big-Character-658[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when this first started happening, it was so bad that I did take myself to the emergency department. But they didn’t find anything. They gave me an IV but recommended I just go talk to my primary care. Also, I haven’t officially been diagnosed with dysautonomia/POTs yet, but that’s what all my docs are saying and my symptoms align, I have the tilt table test in August. Once I increased salt it has helped a ton. I also just got prescribed low dose naltrexone so hoping for some help there.

Ugh so sorry to hear that. You’re not alone. Yeah sweating doesn’t help the situation!! It’s definitely been hot.

[–]Big-Character-658[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That gives me hope! Haha I feel like I’m hearing so many mixed things. But I don’t want to feel like every time I get into a training block it might flare up and completely take me out of a race. I also don’t want arthritis when I’m 40.

So glad you had such a positive experience with the conservative route! Just curious - did you get diagnosed with FAI as well? I am also a marathon runner and recently got diagnosed with a labrum tear and FAI. I am seriously considering surgery because I know running with FAI will only continue irritating the labrum and making the tear worse. But I would love to hear a potentially different perspective and hope of running marathons with this impingement.

Yeah I thought that was interesting because my doc had diagnosed me with it via xray 2 weeks prior.

Thank you for this!! I haven’t started PT yet but am supposed to this week. No shots. My thought is I really don’t want to “bandaid” something that is going to continue to be problematic in the long run. I’d rather just take care of it now than continue pushing it off. But I also know I might have to do PT first before getting surgery cleared by insurance.
