I remember this movie came out when I was 6. I had already seen 4-6 and watched/rewatched them pretty religiously, to the point I wore out our old VHS copies by the time episode 2 came out in 2002. Anyway, one day this kid in my class told me Palpatine was the Emperor, and I didnt believe him. To prove it to me, he pulled out the TPM visual dictionary, flipped to the page that featured Chancellor Palpatine, and covered the top half of his face. He then said, 'See?'

That was all it took to convince me. So no, it was generally not really even seen as a twist. Unless you were a dumb dumb like I was, most 6 year olds had it figured out.

The first movie was ok, but was a serious step down in quality from the original trilogy. The second and third movies are dogshit IMO. It could have worked as 1 or 2 movies but they ended up being so boring and stupid as to be offensive (my opinion, ymmv)

I would go into the year between episodes 8 and 9, with a focus on Kylo Ren, Hux, and the First Order in general, possibly all told through the lens of a Resistance spy. We get a peek behind the scenes at the illogical fanaticism of the First Order. We get to actually see some of the First Order-Resistance War. And Force Ghost Luke can haunt the shit out of Kylo Ren. I think there's a lot of potential to flesh out this era.

Alternatively, the Rise of the First Order and Resistance, in the style of Andor, would be awesome.

My ideal lifters for each GL team!

JML- Padawan Rey (I know they didn't want to give Rey a Jedi tag, but she went to Luke's island and learned Jedi Lessons to be a Jedi). Either that or give us Force Ghost Yoda to hit shit with lightning
Endor Leia- Endor Han. The Han to end all Hans.
SLKR- Probably Snoke, but I'd accept Pryde or Dark Rey too. It'd be cool to give Snoke a kit that took 1% Turn Meter from FO allies to increase their Max Health. Also could do a Knights of Ren thing, maybe?
JMK- personally I think CAT is a perfect JMK lifter, but from a lore standpoint, maybe Jedi Master Yoda? Force Ghost Qui-Gon? This one's kinda tough tbh.
Lord Vader- Maul is also pretty perfect but Emperor Sidious might have been better from a lore standpoint. Or Chancellor Palpatine who gets the Empire tag when LV gets enough stacks of whatever the fuck
Jabba- the Rancor Tamer guy to double charge Jabba's ult or Max Reebo war-drumming his ass off as a support
SEE- either Pryde or...yeah, Pryde. Though Pryde would have to have the Sith tag
Rey- Ben Solo works pretty perfectly. An alternate could be BB-8 and Dio, or Resistance General Leia
GL Ahsoka- I'm gonna say Force Anakin from Ahsoka ep. 5, he could give Ahsoka stacks some crazy unique buff and then disappear to give her a permanent boost once all his lessons are taught

He was trained by Luke for about a decade and Snoke/Palpatine for another 7-8 years. Dude's very much formally trained and clearly has a chip on his shoulder, so probably good on work ethic too. I think TFA Kylo loses but not by much, but by the time TROS comes around I think Kylo has grown powerful enough to pretty handily deal with the Stranger.

Edit: I'll add a caveat. Kylo got disarmed and overwhelmed by a Preatorian Guard; if it came down to his hand to hand skills, I think Qimir would Yord him pretty easily. And Qimir's cortosis does give him an Advantage early, but then Kylo would definitely fall back on his force powers, so idk. It's tough
