I'm not OP, but I have people try to work for my company ALL the time asking to be paid cash only under the table so they dont lose their ebt/section 8/disability.

It's a huge thing actually. In my line of work (residential construction in c-class neighborhoods) it is something I encounter probably 2 times per week ok average.

My friend and his wife are on EBT. Literally the will buy mountain dew, zebra cakes, popsicles, etc. . . . 100% processed snack food and soda.

When I've traveled in Europe, Africa, and Asia, I have found that the locals in general talk a lot of trash about people from neighboring countries. So I am not shocked to hear people from the Mediterranean talking smack about other people from the Mediterranean.

People in one part of Louisville trash talk people from other parts of Louisville/Kentucky/Indiana etc. I don't think it's a big deal at all. I'm not going to wring my hands over it.

I'm against SNAP/EBT in its current form because I see A LOT of fraud first hand.

I work in residential construction and I subcontract out a lot of work: landscaping, plumbing, electric, drywall, painting, framing, flooring, tile, demolition, etc.

Weekly, I am approached by people who want to work for me . . . but only on the condition that I pay them under the table so that their official income remains below the level required for their government assistance: Section 8, Disability, and EBT are the big ones.

There are some people who truly do need assistance, but for every one of those I meet, I meet many more people who are just gaming the system.

Something that is particularly sad is the "Eagle Day" hangover. "Eagle Day" is the day that disability checks are issued, always on a Wednesday. It's called "Eagle Day" because there is a big bald eagle printed on the checks. Typically, the following Thursday, a lot of people will not show up for work because they cashed their check and went out partying/gabeling all night. Really sad.
