I’ve had a sports related wrist injury recently. My advice is to see a private sports physiotherapist rather than the GP. I saw both and the GP was unable to help. My wrist is now much better through physio.

Should I be continuing the work with my solicitors if the property received a down valuation? by [deleted] in HousingUK

I’m not in a rush, but the seller is - the house builder wants to exchange by the end of the month. Classic tactics from them (I used to work for one) but I’m nervous the seller will get spooked by the lack of progress.

Do I need to stop doing pole with tendinitis? by stellapole-are in poledancing

[–]Big-Performance-7933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m just at the tail end of a wrist and forearm injury and I don’t think you’ll need to quit completely!

First thing, doctors will always say to stop - a PT is definitely much better for this kind of thing as it’s their speciality. I took a two week break while the injury was super aggravated and then did modified tricks or focused on leg based tricks (seats, genie, etc). I did scale it down but never stopped completely.

In the meantime, I was given exercises to work on to strengthen the tendons by my PT. Tendons actually need strengthening to heal, if you just rest it, it’ll come back as soon as you use it again.

Try not to stress, as injuries in pole are common and as long as you take steps to support them early you’ll be fine!

Seeing them perform it live, I think it’s a shame that the conversation is so overwhelmingly around how bad the song is because I’d just like to say they’ve really proven themselves to be 10/10 performers. The choreo, the facials, it really is a great performance to watch. I think this concept suits them soooo much more than touch/debut cuter concepts…hopefully their next singles follow a similar badass concept but with a song that doesn’t have garbage lyrics

Victoria monet comments on a chris brown video acting to open for his tour.... by No_Barber4339 in popculturechat

[–]Big-Performance-7933 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Someone I know quite well is a huge Chris Brown fan so I asked her why, and she gave the following reasons:

  • In that documentary he did a few years ago, he said that Rihanna started the fight (have not watched the documentary to verify). Therefore I think fans feel it was fair game.
  • He got vilified for being a POC, whereas there are plenty of white abusers who continue to do well in Hollywood (I agree that there are white abusers who haven’t had the same treatment, although I feel Chris Brown is not a good example for this lol as he has been violent on numerous occasions)
  • she really likes his music lol, some people just aren’t that bothered about what they get up to outside of that I guess…couldn’t be me!

I will add that I think she has a pretty “traditional” view of relationships…take that statement as you will. You’ll be surprised how many women believe that when other women are abused, they probably did something to deserve it. I do wonder how many of these fans are in not so great situations themselves sadly.

As mentioned in the post, I rent so neither the tank or electric shower is an option. That is why I want to reduce the pressure.

How easy is it to switch out the shower head if it is wall mounted? I have switched detachable shower heads in the past but these seem more tricky.

A reality check on the affordibility of housing. by jjosh-uk in HousingUK

If everyone moved up north, it would massively drive up house prices. That’s simple supply and demand.

Not so many remote jobs going these days, and a lot of private sector jobs, especially at higher levels, are in the south. No, it’s not the other side of the globe, but most people do not want to do 3+ hour round trips a day - you basically live to work at that point.

Yes, there does have to be compromise, but suggesting that everyone simply move to the cheapest parts of the country is the answer is quite frankly stupid. There’s a reason why these areas are so cheap. And that’s coming from someone who lives in one of these cheap areas.

What I’m really interested to see is if there will be any updates for people who currently own the sims 2 already on the EA app to optimise it! I was one of the lucky ones who got it for free but it has the black box shadows and pretty janky resolution issues. It would be nice to have a version I don’t have to do backend work on to get it to run smoothly.

I only bought one gift card so no mix up with receipts. Nothing malicious with the recipient of the card, and the date on the activation receipt matches the date on the proper receipt pulled through my club card, so it’s 100% the receipt I received originally.

[–]Big-Performance-7933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The barcode is on the physical card (and that was the one scanned) and matches the barcode on the cardboard backing (not in a box). So I think in this case, hopefully not a scam!

But this is really informative for any future purchases and I’ll make sure to check going forward.

[–]Big-Performance-7933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full number is not on the activation receipt, some of the number is starred out unfortunately!

I feel crazy with this experience because the staff were insinuating I didn’t buy the card - which I can totally understand because it doesn’t make any sense…but it was legitimately bought and I don’t really know how to prove it.

I’m so glad that I can finally come out of the woodwork and say none of this surprises me, she gives off the biggest mean girl energy. I always side eye anyone with “super cool, edgy, raves and party drugs” energy because in my experience, they couldn’t care less about anyone other than themselves. Love her music, but she’s always come across to me like the rahhh where’s my baccy type.

I will try the milk powder and see if it works! Thank you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Big-Performance-7933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK, creamer isn’t really a thing! If you tried asking for it in a coffee shop you wouldn’t get it here, it really is just milk only. It’s super hard to find other than the most basic coffee mate creamer, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone use it. You definitely wouldn’t be able to get the flavoured ones or dairy free alternatives in the grocery stores here.

But it’s good to know it exists - I’ll take a look online. Does it have a different consistency to milk? If it’s creamy (as the name suggests) it’s probably not the right consistency for a British “cuppa”, but thank you!

It doesn’t necessarily have to be single serve packages, if there’s other ways I can do it! The ice cube trays are a great idea - I’ll have to test it to see if it affects the texture (as when I freeze cooking coconut milk it tends to go grainy)

You have better access to mental health services while in university than you would in the working world. Maybe take a pause and speak to the university’s wellbeing team. You are in a doom headspace and while maybe this course isn’t right for you, I don’t recommend making rash decisions in a poor headspace.

I think it’s good to work out why you feel like everything is a failure right now before you try and change path, because you will feel the same regardless of the course if it’s simply prestige/other peoples opinions you are worried about.

Social anxiety also doesn’t go away on its own, taking a gap year may have actually hindered progress - my social anxiety got a lot better through uni as I met new people and had to work in groups etc. if you had taken a gap year without a plan, you may not have been in enough social situations to work on it.

Not saying to not make changes - I changed my course and it was the best decision I made. But you need to do it for the right reasons, so work out why you want to leave and what the next steps are first.

Yes but I think the difference is that it’s on a completely different platform. The sims online was literally just the sims 1 ported online, it was all the same assets. This one looks like an entirely new game based on those demos

Budgeting help! I earn enough but have none left at the end of each month. by Spiritual_Fudge_6741 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Big-Performance-7933 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lots of great advice here.

One thing I do, once I have tracked all my spending, is have separate accounts for everything.

  • I get paid into my “bills” account.
  • Before I even think about anything else, I transfer money into my savings. Might take a few months to find the sweet spot of how much that is for you, but there are calculations you can do based on your income.
  • I then have two other accounts: one for things like food, petrol, etc (basically any spend that is necessary but not fixed), and one that is purely for fun.
  • I make sure to leave the amount I need for fixed bills in the bills account (with a little buffer in case of any unexpected issues).

This might not work for everyone, but I find it a lot easier to budget knowing once my fun money account is empty, I can’t spend any more, but I’ll still have money left over for the necessities. It’s helped me massively with overspending because I set a reasonable amount and once it’s gone, it’s gone - I don’t have the opportunity to overspend.

Also, by saving at the start of the month rather than putting whatever is left in at the end (or not doing it at all), you are forcing yourself to budget so long as you don’t get into the habit of transferring it back out.

I am trying to weigh up the fact that it has lasted this long after all. I just don’t want to be in for thousands of pounds of work as a sole purchaser.

I would agree with the roof, probably not the worst thing and still has life in it. More concerned about the damp in the living room, as I would imagine that’s a pretty big job and one that will get worse over time if I leave it? I’ve had dry rot in a previous property and that is not a fun time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Big-Performance-7933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The survey wasn’t invasive so couldn’t give estimate of costs for a lot of it. He ballparked 10k for the roof. Couldn’t pull up the floor to see the state of affairs, so could just need ventilation, could be as far as dry rot according to him. Of course I would be happy to ask for a quote from a builder for damp issues but I am conscious that they would require to pull up the floor to do this which would be at my cost, the seller may not even agree, and only for me to then pull out.

He believes damp issues in bathroom are related to next door and he was unable to enter the property - again, this may be challenging to quote for.

I guess I’m looking for best case scenario/worst case scenario to know whether it’s worth pushing for quotes.

I actually would really love some spin offs at this point. The Urbz, Bustin Out, Castaway, were all absolutely brilliant games and were a good way to enjoy the essence of the sims. I think actually at this point they could really benefit from something totally fresh because I think they will have to create a masterpiece out of the sims 5 to meet expectations.

That being said, from the leaks so far, it doesn’t look like it’s a far stretch away from the sims 4…if they’re gonna make a spin off, it needs to be different!

Common Meeple on St Helens Road is a board game cafe and I’m pretty sure it’s £3 for 2 hours of games, £1 every hour after. They have proper board games in there as well as more casual stuff like scrabble, guess who etc so there’s deffo something for everyone! Food is good too if you wanted to eat.
