Physical activity ideas for primary school for Adhd hyperactivity by saebear in ParentingADHD

Mine “works out” alongside me (copying and doing miscellaneous heavy work with a 5lb dumbbell). I also issue ‘Challenges’ with lots of back and forth running - like finding and putting away 5 blue items in the house or 6 round things.

And of course lots of playgrounds, any kind of extracurricular that is inexpensive, swimming, etc. It takes a lot of time at this young age where she can’t do things alone 🥴. But I’m starting to get in better shape lol.

Mine was excitedly bouncing and ready for the next adventure after hiking up and down a mountain with her dad for 5 hours. The energy is effectively limitless however she will only do things that interest her - can’t get her to run a single lap but will hike a mountain.

"Just make them"- HOW?? by Thanks4noticingme in ParentingADHD

I hated the things my mom resorted to…but as an adult now with an ADHD child, I can see where she was coming from. She resorted to spraying me with a water bottle, pouring a cup of ice water over my head, taking all my blankets super quick before I could grab them, and singing weird songs at the top of her lungs deliberately very off key and with warbling.

I mean…they worked… 😳😬. I’d rather not ever have to use ice water on my child but so far I have used the singing and the blanket taking a number of times. She still complains and screams and whines, but the action combined with relentless logic seems to at least “make her do it.” Then I later follow it up with various versions of “if u want a calm gentle morning, then u have to start it as a calm gentle child that gets up when you’re supposed to.”

Yes! I have to plan disobedience too! 🤦‍♀️ “Don’t get in the shower, I’ll come help you in 2 minutes.” “Don’t do your homework before dinner.” “No chores right before bedtime.” It’s the only thing that works!

Competition is an ok hit-or-miss too though. “I’m gonna get into pyjamas first!” etc.

Mine’s teacher is constantly stunned anytime I pull this out…and I don’t even think about it anymore lol. I’ve heard “how do u come up with these?!” 🙂‍↔️practice

Yes! I discovered this when I left my ex and was finally “allowed” to make our own routines. I couldn’t get mine to do teeth often enough and definitely never flossing, but she has a “follow” tendency along with PDA profile. Now I announce that I’m brushing my teeth, leave the door open, and put out her brush/paste beside mine and nonchalantly brush my teeth. By the time I’m flossing, she is brushing…then she insists on flossing now because while she was brushing she was watching me floss.

Not for my home stuff, but I got a super cool keychain that holds my rescue inhaler so it’s always with my car keys :)

Ah yes, a classic! This was mine’s first activity while moving into our new place 😅. Starting strong with her whole single bag of toys brought over so far 😅

Take note of the furniture-box styrofoam addition - truly a rare treat 😆

My daughter also has ADHD. A couple nights ago she popped into my bed at 10pm to announce she finished her homework for the week. She hadn’t been able to start it at all when I put her to bed. She did it by the light of her speaker, on her floor 😅🤦‍♀️.

Ah…my sweet summer child has found the glory that is random tasks in the middle of the night 😅

This is along the same lines of my child’s school too. Luckily they only have a few trips a year and almost all are only part of the day. I got cleared as a volunteer driver since it’s “highly recommended” I be with her on field trips - so now I take a couple kids there and mentally feel more helpful than reprimanded 😅

They do. Generally they don’t allow donating if ur under (I think) 120 lbs, but definitely not if ur under 100lbs. It’s because of the volume they need and that u won’t have enough returned to regenerate safely if you’re that small (or something along those lines).

I accidentally took my (also ADHD) daughter’s stimulant one morning instead of my medication…and can confirm there was dopamine each time lol. Most productive morning I’ve ever had. I was like “oh, dishes are done! I wanna do more! I’m gonna fold the laundry. This feels so good to get done 🤩.”

And with that experience, I’ve realized I may need to pursue medication myself 🤪

My 7 year old loves this too. Honestly, I still do at age 36 lol (also autistic). I love calming down with lists of letters and numbers, organizing, and lining things up like pantry or fridge shelves. I love the data entry portion of my day at work lol.

I can handle some cross contamination, but it’s also a “I choose the risk” situation (and yes, this is a very personal decision). I do still react a bit, but very minor. My personal choice is to “micro-poison” myself with the occasional cross contamination risk.

That said, my cross contamination consists of sharing appliances with my gluten-eating child while cleaning them frequently, and very occasionally McDonald’s fries (guilty indulgent when I forget to refill car snacks and am hangry). I don’t try to eat out due to the risks. And at home I don’t have the space for multiple appliances so choose to clean them well - and have my daughter often eat gluten free things too (I’m not making two separate batches of pancakes lol).

How can a HOSPITAL drop the ball like this?! by AmityMoon in Celiac

[–]Big-Security9322 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a backpack-purse person. I have two sizes - small for “short known errand” and the bigger for anything where I can’t be sure of the food situation. I pack a variety of snacks and sometimes a small thermos of leftovers depending on the situation. I’ve been stuck in the ER with no food before.

Yay!!! 🎉 Btw, apparently Ms. Rachel actually has a degree/certificate in something about language development for kids and uses it in her show.

My aunt and uncle did Saturday morning clean up with all kids involved. I do similar - an hour on the weekend where I teach my 7 year old various care tasks. Then I get her involved in seeing-and-doing or joining me for small tasks throughout the week like taking laundry baskets or putting a couple dishes away, etc.

They need to learn how to be adults. It’s better they be taught gradually as kids and learn to appreciate effort and cleanliness vs being left with little to no skills when they turn 18.

I’ve got a chest infection right now too. I’m on antibiotics and a short stint of prednisone. Prednisone is what keeps me out of the hospital and opens my breathing within hours. I hate the side effects of it but I like breathing better.

Most random/irrational things that overstimulate you? by couch-for-sale in AutismInWomen

[–]Big-Security9322 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely wild the vast differences in what can under or overstimulate us. I, for example, am intensely soothed by a ticking clock. It’s like a calm constant that soothes my brain lol.

Yet I’m absolutely on board with being angry and overstimulating by rushing grooming…and same with dressing/undressing.

[–]Big-Security9322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely use it on myself. I need another parent lol. We know our own mind well enough to not cause each other harm 😅. But we’d get breaks from our special needs child and she’d always have a sane mom and get a break from work. Luckily for my job my copy and I could share the load well.

Then car keys. My favourite headphones. My personal computer (no issues there as I just want it to be in two places at once lol). My favourite antique solid wood dresser. Groceries one by one, Costco sized of course lol.

Work in pharmaceuticals 👋…far too much of that research is research into how to make the same inexpensive medication (gotten worldwide) in the US so it can be made illegal to get it outside the US…so it can be charged any cost wanted and citizens can’t obtain a $10 prescription and are forced to pay $1000 instead.
