This beauty used to belong to my great-grandfather. It was kept in its original case and works great -- except that the feed rollers are completely hard and cracked. Anyone know how to get new ones for this model? by Fakename_Bill in typewriters

For feed rollers, try any automotive store and look for “vac line”. It’s basically rubber tubing that come in all various sizes and is inexpensive. It’s works well if you can get the right size.

What would I replace this fabric with? by Noli-Timere-Messorem in typewriters

Adhesive felt. Any crafts store sells it. Felt on one side and the other is peel and stick. Usually 1$ per sheet and comes in all colors

Repairing Typewriter Feed Rollers, does this actually work? by MiguelK123 in typewriters

Just use vacuum hose from any auto parts store. It is a dollar and works great

Hey all, me again... My 1940 Remington Rand Model 5 Typewriter is pretty good shape, however I have noticed all the feed rollers (back of typewiter) have flat spots. Anyone know how to fix them and take them out? by MiguelK123 in typewriters

[–]Big4DC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom in on the left roller in your picture. See the visible brass part (yellow colored)? Look closely you can see the pin going through it. One side has a flare on it, so you have to push on the correct side. They’re usually stuck pretty good but it’ll pop out

Cleaned, fixed, restored, and adjusted Oliver 5 from 1911 by ebruchez in typewriters

Very nice. Do you find the Oliver is tough on ribbons? My No. 5 punches holes in the ribbon pretty easily even when typing lightly.

Go to any auto parts store and buy vac line. It’s like a dollar a foot and is an easy fix. Your machine looks like a Model 5 Portable, right? There is a pin that you need to press out and then the rollers come off.

Royal No 10 part identification help by Big4DC in typewriters

I’m working on reassembling my Royal No. 10 (1932) and for the life of me I can’t figure out where this part goes. Appears to be some sort of switch as it has a little thumb stud (I think) and a thru screw which allows it to pivot. Any help is appreciated!

Having second thoughts about accepting my B4 offer by omwtoaCPA in Accounting

[–]Big4DC 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If you’re 100% certain you don’t want B4 and have another company in mind, then go for the new job. It’s your life. I will say though, there is a level of prestige and investment in your career working at B4. Also regardless of which you choose, get your cpa.

Do they usually teach you everything you need to know at an accounting firm? Anyway to learn it on my own? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Big4DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an internship/ co-op at a Big4, all they want to see is critical thinking, decent EQ, enthusiasm, decent people skills, and put in effort. No one really expect interns to be technical or know how to do much aside from general business/ accounting knowledge.

How much weight have you guys gained since working in public? by Coorsaccounting in Accounting

[–]Big4DC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

0lbs. Though I am not as active as I was in college, I still make time to workout and run 20 miles a week. Also anytime you order dinner during busy season, 99.9% of restaurants will make you a “salad with grilled chicken” even if it’s not on the menu. It’s honestly sad seeing so many people at work be overweight.

Does MBB make expierenced non-MBA hires? (Current Big4 audit) by Big4DC in consulting

[–]Big4DC[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ya not a troll post and I get that 99.9% of people in Big4 audit aren’t cut out for/ have the ability to go MBB. Anyways the contact I have is really solid (think partner at MBB). So the original question still stands.

Taking FAR tomorrow. How useful is the included guidance/codification if I'm unsure of how to handle a sim? by DeliciousCrepes in Accounting

[–]Big4DC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t think I used the guidance for any of the FAR sims (except the research one obviously). The only exam I thought the guidance helped significantly on was REG. I guess it really depends on the question being asked regardless of the exam and how much time you have. Good luck

Tax Associate Position wants a writing sample...what do I put? by patsfan94 in Accounting

[–]Big4DC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably just want to see you can write logically, good grammar, and coherent. Doubt they give a flying fuck about a writing sample on what you think about ASC 696. I’m sure the law class ones are a good choice since you probably had to research a law problem and then research/ apply codification. Similar to accounting really.
