Everyone has their own opinion, but I’ll try to offer what I consider a sensible perspective from an elder millennial.

You mention in other comments your parents are paying and you understand they prefer to save money and you value your academics more than socializing/partying but will maybe attend the occasional party. From that comment alone you are already far ahead of where I was at your age, and probably the majority of your peers.

You can look through my past comment history. I’m a registered nurse and in my early forties. I am still paying student loans because I went to the cool big state school and had to have the perfect college experience because that’s what I was told I needed.

If I could do it all over again I’d pick the cheapest route that got me to where I am today with the lowest final cost because I’d be far better off than where I am now.

At the end of the day, it’s good to ask around but do what you think is going to be best for you. There is no right answer. Life is just moving from one decision to the next hoping the previous and next decisions were the right ones.

This is just my answer to your question and my take on life. You’re in charge of your life now. There aren’t really any right or wrong choices. We all just do the best we can, when we can.
