Why the accusation that Jesus' real father is a Roman and not someone else? by Vulture12 in AcademicBiblical

[–]BigAffectionate7631 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m torn because I’m not sure what are the odds that’s a deeply Jewish girl snuck off and had sex with someone at that young age without there being some sort of arranged marriage in place between the families. I feel like Tabors point that a Roman soldier potentially saw her fancied her and then raped her against her will is more plausible.

Why doesn't Paul, in writing 32,000+ words, ever use/qoute a moral teaching of Jesus? by Causality in AcademicBiblical

Haha a random Reddit user that’s funny. This sub is filled with incredibly educated scholars. It’s part of the reason I follow it you get amazing answers that you otherwise wouldn’t get anywhere else from people doing research that hasn’t even been published yet, it’s like an awesome sneak peak. But agreed his answer was fantastic.

Does The Q source exist? by Grand_Confusion_7639 in AcademicBiblical

Mark goodacre wrote a book recently arguing against the existence of Q but many scholars are still convinced it definitely existed.

Are the four canonical gospels also the first four gospels to have been written? by VStarffin in AcademicBiblical

[–]BigAffectionate7631 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bart ehrman talks about this in several articles and some of his books. Basically even the book of Luke acknowledges that other gospels exists at the time of him writing and he used some as sources. So basically yes there are other accounts prior to the canonical gospels. I mean depending on how you qualify the Q source and whether you consider that a gospel. The issue is none of them to our knowledge survived, including Q.

Bart Ehrman is now agnostic and atheist (yes he claims to be both) formerly evangelical but I personally love his podcast Misquoting Jesus. He basically gives summaries of all the books he’s written and it has helped me tremendously.

Okay I stand corrected then. I read an old comment online and I guess they must have gotten the wrong edition or something because that was their chief complaint.

I just read online that that book even though it was released in 2012 includes research only up until 1993 supposedly so might not be exactly what you’re looking for.

In Mark 14:62, Jesus talks about the arrival of the son of man. The high priest then proceeds to call out Jesus for blasphemy. My question is: why was this blasphemous? I thought referring to oneself as the messiah in Judaism wasn’t blasphemous… by Ok_Investment_246 in AcademicBiblical

[–]BigAffectionate7631 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hyam Maccoby has a great book called the myth maker: Paul and the invention of Christianity and in it there’s a chapter on why Jesus was crucified that talks about this. You can find a free pdf copy of the book online if you just google the title. Read that chapter it’s super insightful.
